Review summary by hardwareheaven
“…As with most new keyboards there will be a period of familiarisation with
this product, more so due to the mechanical keys and layout tweaks, however
after that short adjustment the typists will find their keying speed greatly
enhanced. Gamers will find the on-the-fly macro recording and profiles of great
benefit, mixed with the same great tactile feel. Overall the BlackWidow Ultimate
offers industry leading build quality, a great set of features and an
exceptional typing experience.”

First up I'll say this is a good keyboard. The construction of it is about the highest quality I've ever seen – picking it up you can feel the heaviness of the quality build.
Coming from a low-profile laptop-style keyboard I was used to not having to push my keys all that far, which is something that this keyboard heavily markets – however while the “actuation” distance of the keys is tiny (~2mm), after actuation the key still travels the normal distance down to the base of the keyboard.
This fact alone makes this keyboard very, very difficult to get used to – when you're gaming (which is what the keyboard is designed for) you often hold down a key (eg strafing) and will frequently release and quickly hold down the key again – this is very difficult with this keyboard because the key has to travel so far before it “un-actuates” (whereby usually you'd only have to slightly lift your finger to un-actuate the key).
I had never used a mechanical keyboard before so this was always going to be a learning curve for me – supposedly you're meant to only lightly hit each key – but that is amazingly difficult to get used to when you need to hold a key down.
Noise wise this keyboard is definitely pretty damn noisy if you're pressing the keys all the way down (as you no doubt will if you're coming from a “normal” keyboard), however if you're only hitting the keys lightly (just enough to actuate them) then it's not too bad at all.
All in all I'd say if you're used to a mechanical keyboard then this one is fantastic – but if not think twice before investing. It guts me to do it but I'm going back to using my Lycosa for gaming and will use this bad boy at work for typing only (where holding keys down and the loud clicks won't be a problem).
