Description
With a mix of turn-based strategy and RPG elements, Shadow Hearts: Covenant provides players with an even greater magical quest than its predecessor. Shadow Hearts and Shadow Hearts: Covenant, known as Shadow Hearts 2 in Japan, were created and published in Japan by Aruze Corporation.
"We are very excited to be bringing a role-playing adventure of this magnitude to the European market," said Matt Broughton, International Marketing Director, Midway. "Shadow Hearts: Covenant is a massive RPG experience, with considerable production value. Gamers can expect a two-DVD extravaganza, with quality, story-driven gameplay throughout."
The story unfolds via amazingly detailed cut-scenes that bring the enthralling and complex characters, powerful battle sequences and unique gameplay to life. Shadow Hearts: Covenant also brings back the innovative combat system, the Judgment Ring, which not only allows players to choose which characters to bring to battle, but also determines the final outcome of the battle based on the players' speed and accuracy. New to the Shadow Hearts sequel, are enhancements to the Judgment Ring allowing offensive team-based combos and defensive formations.
Set during World War I in a fantastical world of magic and creatures, the game takes place over a year after the original Shadow Hearts ended. Yuri, the main character is back, and he embarks on a new expedition with friends Gepetto and Kallen, a German female soldier. Yuri's morphing abilities have been weakened because he has been cursed by Nicholas, a member of a secret cult taking advantage of the war to fulfill their evil ambitions of ruling the world. Yuri and his companions must journey to find a cure for his curse and defeat the malevolent cult.

If you liked Shadow Hearts you'll love Shadow Hearts: Covenant.
Shadow Hearts: Covenant begins a year after Shadow Hearts ended, in 1914 - the beginning of the First World War - where we find Yuri settled in the church of Domremy where he has appointed himself guardian. Yuri's sadness at loosing Alice has become an integral part of his being and he wears his sorrow like a badge of honour. But when the war comes to Domremy Yuri is forced to become involved, and through that he learns that he can find other reasons to live and people to care about. Throughout SH: Covenant you'll meet people that hovered about on the fringes of SH and you'll also meet a few you'll recognise. But the main character is Yuri and his quest to find himself is continued. Also, once again, you'll be battling with the Judgement Ring and those fearsome combos will dishing out damage in spades. SH: Covenant has some of the best and most exciting FMV's I have ever seen and there are quite a few of them to move the story along. The 9 main characters are well developed and each brings his/her particular strengths to the team. The optional side-quests to find each character's Ultimate Weapon or Armour makes for a very long game - over 150 hours - if you do them all. Shadow Hearts: Covenant is a wonderful and fitting sequel with plenty to entertain, yet leaves lots to think about as it takes an already established series a step higher up the 'extraordinary game' ladder. Shadow Hearts: Covenant leaves us with more questions than it answers and I feel certain that the next in the series will be mind-shattering.
