Description
Rise to Honour follows the story of Kit Yun (Jet Li), the trusted bodyguard of Boss Chiang, the leader of one of Hong Kong's notorious crime gangs. Following the assassination of Chiang, Yun is ordered by two opposing forces to seek out Chiang's daughter in the United States and return her safely to Hong Kong. These orders are given by Kwan, an aspiring power broker who appoints himself the family leader after Chiang's demise, and Captain Lau - Yun's boss in the legitimate world of the Hong Kong Organised Crime Bureau. Yun embarks on the dangerous journey entangling himself in a web of alliances and hidden agendas.
Rise to Honour is a 3rd person action adventure incorporating elements of fast paced shooting and full 360º martial art sequences set over a series of predetermined real-life locations based in Hong Kong and San Francisco.
Assuming the role of Kit Yun (Jet Li) each mission is broken down into individual action set pieces often based around the player successfully travelling from point A to point B without losing a life. Levels are based around a tight linear path with a series of action set pieces preventing progress. Story line progress is described through a series of cut-scenes.
Rise to Honour features 2 fast paced modes of combat, each mode utilises a dual analog stick approach for targeting enemies and engaging in combat.
Armed Combat – featuring an unlimited supply of bullets.
Unarmed Combat - martial art fighting.
The combat style is often pre-determined and the user is unable to manually switch between fighting styles during game-play.
Special 'adrenaline' moves and defences are activated by the controller shoulder buttons. In armed combat mode the adrenaline moves activate a matrix style 'bullet time' sequence where the player can jump through the air in slow motion, dodging bullets whilst quick firing against opponents in full 360º range of movement. For unarmed combat this allows the player to perform spectacular martial art actions and finishing moves.
Player status is displayed as a series of power bars which feature both health and adrenaline levels, whenever a player suffers damage or activates the adrenaline sequence then this will reduce the levels. Players can recover adrenaline however damage inflicted is terminal and once this has been reduced to zero then this will result in the player losing a life and re-spawning from the start of the level (or equivalent save point).
In addition to this there are pursuit-style action-sequences where the player has to manoeuvre Jet away from a chasing vehicle hell-bent on causing Jet injury. This will involve tackling a variety of obstacles at high speed before Jet can be caught.
