4 stars "Really good game"

This is a great game for those of us who love our wrestling. Legends like the Rock, Stone Cold, Hulk, Ultimate Warrior, HBK, Undertaker and the list goes on. It also comes with a pretty good story mode where you relive, redefine and rewrite different chosen matches form past wrestlemanias.

The graphics are great and the crowd is really into it and it is great to watch them when the old school entrances occur. The entrances themselves are awesome with old school names coming up on old school backgrounds. The only gripe with presentation is that they all look like action figures which while it is okay for guys like the Rock and Stone Cold and the SvR09 guys, it looks a bit odd on guys like King Kong Bundy and Andre the Giant with their six pack among the big flab.

The relive, rewrite and redefine modes are very fun and give you great build up video before each match to get you amped up with all the old scghool trash talking (Hulk Hogan pulls out a ripper with Andre the Giant about all the little Hulksters) and all of it is real footage and loks great and gives you a great feel for what you are about to do. You have a list of objectives for each match and need to gain a gold medal to advance. This in my view is great as you cannot just beat down a guy but you have to do what was done in the match or otherwise in the rewrite and redefines. The only problem is I would love to have had more matches for these modes as it does feel a bit short. However there is also a Legend Killer Mode where you create a guy to take on the Legends and if you have SvR09 you can import those characters and kill those future legends and if you want play as one through this mode.

The big cvhange in the game however is the control system. While this really annoyed me in the demo, now that I know what does what it isn't so bad. It will annoy certain people who love the old system but it is good for those who want to get this game as their first wrestling purchase. It is a bit of a pain in steel cage matches or hell in a cells when you want to do a turnbuckle move but end up climbing the cage! Also you start every Hell in a Cell on the roof – and once you go in the cage you cannot get back up there whcih makes the mick foley throws come very quickly which is a bit daft.

Overall a great game but has some issues and a lack of quantity in it to be excellent. If they get more story and wrestlers in it htru dlc it will be worth its while – but I highly doubt that for this title.

3 stars "Disappointing"

I had really high hopes for this game. A change up from the Smackdown vs Raw series was much needed. Initially I thought the game was quite enjoyable. Simplistic controls and over exaggerated character models gave the game a more arcade feel to it.

Features that help the game and it's appeal were being able to add the 09 Smackdown vs Raw roster to the equation, being able to relive and recreate historic wrestlemania moments brought back memories and finally a chance to play as Ultimate Warrior!!!

However after playing it for a few hours I found it became very repetetive and tedious. After playing through the Wrestlmania moments and a few exhibition matches (Royal Rumble, Tag Team etc), my interest in the game decreased and after a weekend of playing it, the game lost it's appeal on me.

If you are a long time WWE/WWF fan, you may enjoy Legends of Wrestlemania's nostalgia. For the younger generation and newcomers it may not be as enjoyable.

I give it a 6 out of 10!!!

2 stars "Day One; GREAT Day Two; NEXT GAME PLEASE"

Good news: You can play as The Ultimate Warrior and the video work in the Wrestlemania modes are quite enjoyable.

Bad news: This game is great only for the nostalgia factor as this game gets boring FAST. Repetitive somes up this game in a nutshell.

"Does nostalgia outweigh game play?"

In short…no. I was expecting HUGE things from this game. Anticipation, excitement, seeing Hulk Hogan and Andre the Giant going toe to toe again! I was so excited to see my favourite wrestlers and child hood heroes suplex, DDT and Honky tonk heartbreak their way across the mat. What I got was…OK…Just OK. The controls were minimal, I just didn't “feel” the game play. I had a chance to be the Ultimate Warrior and all I got was ultimate disappointment. OK is not how I want to remember my stars.

The game is fun when you have more than one player. The game has good features e.g following and reliving legendary parts of WWF and WWE history!

2 stars "Very Disappointing"

While the re-writing of history concept behind this game is good, the repetitive gameplay made me lose interest very quickly. Also some of the decisions of the old-school wrestlers in the game who are classed as legends could be considered dubious. Overall, not absolutely terrible but not the game that I was hoping that it would be.

4 stars "Perfect for real wrestling fans."

WWE Legends of WrestleMania is a must buy for true wrestling fans. Its roster contains both some true all time greats (Hulk Hogan, Andre the Giant, Bret Hart, The Ultimate Warrior etc) and some not so greats… However, the best thing about this game is that if you have a Smackdown vs Raw 2009 saved game, then you can import the entire SvR2009 roster in to WWE Legends of WrestleMania. Yes that's right, all you have to do is rent/borrow SvR2009, and your Legends of WrestleMania game becomes one of the most complete wrestling games of all time.

The controls are a little simplified compared to SvR, but the same great tools for creating a wrestler, finishing move, entrance, and tag team are all here. There is also the same great array of match types, from single, tag team, ladder, cage, royal rumble, and so on.

It can be played by 6 players (if you happen to have that many controllers) and also features a deep online mode. But by far the best thing about Legends is the videos. You unlock video clips from past WrestleMania moments, and these are fantastic to watch whether it's Hogan Slamming Andre, or a bloody Bret Hart beating Piper.

So technically the game may be a little simple and dull compared to Smackdown vs Raw, but if you love the great wrestlers of yesteryear, then this is definitely the game for you.

5 stars "A must have!!"

This game brought all my old heroes to life. choose the ultimate warrior, andre the giant or hogan…these are only some of the many characters in this game. Awesome video footage which you can recreate. The best game i have had so far is when i had 7 other mates over and did the Battle royal.AWESOME!!

2 stars "Great Nostalgia Feel, But Poorly Executed..."

Great if you would like to relive “some” of the old matches, but alot has been omitted from this game… The control scheme is probably the biggest problem with this game. It is very limited and frustrating compared to the SvR series and Create a Moveset selection is very limited. Character models are not that accurate such as Hogan being way too big, Andre and King Kong Bundy being smaller than they are etc…
There are alot of wrestlers that aren't in this game that I feel should be, but I guess licensing issues come into play there…

4 stars "Do you smell what the ROCK is cooking?"

This game is so cool. I used to be a big fan of wrestling and this game takes you back in time to be play with the greats.
Really cool how you can play online against Smack down vs Raw 2009.
Don't know why they went with the plastic look for the characters rather then the look used by other wrestling games, but hey you get used to it.

I just love the old school wrestlers, has a lot of old 80's and early 90's video of some of the best fights. easy to play and it does allow you to import your NWA/ Smackdown wrestling also and does have updates. A must for any true wrestling fan.

4 stars "A good laidback game"

This is my first wrestling game, so I don't have anything to compare it with. This game is very easy to play with because of easy controls. Nice animations. Great line-up of wrestlers. It's fun to get to play the wrestlers I used to just watch when I was a kid, including favorites such as Ultimate Warrior and Bret Hart. It's a nice addition to your game library if you're into the WWE (or WWF during my childhood).

4 stars "QUite cool!"

Has a great selection of legends and some of my favourites such as the Honky tonk man, Undertaker, Hitman and many more people I grew up watching on wrestling!!

A bit hard to throw people off the ropes in the multiplayer mode but once you read the instructions manual it becomes much easier to play the game!

Recommended especially with company – family/friends on multiplayer mode lots of fun!

3 stars "it's Quite Good"

When WWE Legends of WrestleMania was announced last year, it caught a lot of fans off guard. For years, classic WWE Superstars had been popping up as unlockables in the WWE SmackDown vs. Raw franchise and everyone seemed happy enough with that arrangement. The message from the cynics was simple: if THQ wanted to rock the boat, it better bring the thunder and make it clear why this Legends title needed to exist.

After putting in a ton of mat time, I don't think those cynics will be satisfied.

Packing 38 Superstars such as the Ultimate Warrior and Jake “The Snake” Roberts, as well as four managers such as Jimmy Hart and Mr. Fuji, Legends aims at giving you a dose of WWE nostalgia by having 16 classic arenas, lots of historic video and a number of gameplay modes. However, the best place to start talking about Legends is probably with the control scheme.

Our video review was King of the Ring in 1998.

Now, if you're one of those rabid SmackDown vs. Raw fans that instant message me year-round and troll the IGN boards ready to flame anyone that says WWE games are lame, you might be shocked to discover that this game isn't aimed directly at you – at least not in terms of gameplay. While SVR has a complicated, deep control scheme, Legends sticks to the face buttons. That's right, four buttons (strike, grapple, block, action) are all you need to control this game. It's a move that's aimed at wrangling those casual gamers that seem to be floating around the fringe of the industry; THQ hopes people see Hogan and Big Bossman, feel like this scheme isn't intimidating and pick up the game.

For me, it just doesn't work.

Chief among my complaints is that the scheme leads to matches not feeling exciting. Yeah, I know that Kamala and Dusty Rhodes were never known for blazing speed, but playing Legends isn't as simple as grappling, striking and so on. Sure, the punches, kicks and grabs move just like SVR, but often times you'll start moves that lead to chain grapples – basically quicktime events. A move starts, lumbers around the ring and you need to hit the button on the screen to keep it going. A handful of chains don't give you a specific prompt, but instead let you choose which face button you want to hit when the screen flashes blue.

Of course, if you're getting this move done to you, you can hit the onscreen button and reverse the move. While you're pulling off these moves, you're building a momentum meter underneath your name. When you fill the meter, you move to the level two meter. Fill that, and you'll move to the level three meter and can unleash your finisher at anytime (every finisher is a chain and starts from the standing position). Each one of these tiers has different moves that tend to be more powerful.
Cena hates the elderly. This whole chain grapple pacing just feels off to me – it doesn't feel like a real wrestling match. You hit your finisher and you're immediately back to momentum level one. If you taunt, you lose a level of momentum but can get bonuses such as being irreversible for a period of time. Still, once you're in the red – meaning your health meter is completely drained – you can be pinned super-easily, so it's in your benefit to win matches as quickly as possible. Kicking out or climbing the cage comes down to pounding the face buttons and while the computer can kick out with ease, it'll be a struggle for you even after taking minimal damage. Beating on the computer is simple, and playing real people often just leads to cheapo victories. After hours of playing, I took on fellow IGNer Jeff Haynes who had never played before. Jeff just punched the whole time, I couldn't get my reversals to sync up, and he won on his first pin attempt. Meanwhile, I played a random kid online, and my opponent pulled off way more moves than I did. Still, I was still able to pin him and win after a strong grapple and botched finisher chain – I was even in the red and he had a fourth of his momentum bar.

Of course, this feeling of the matches not being quite right is only made worse by the number of liberties THQ has taken with the Superstars of yesterday. Rather than give characters spot-on physiques from their heyday, THQ has reimagined the stars with action-figure like bodies. It doesn't take a WWE historian to see the adverse effect this choice has when you sit down to play the game. Even the Million Dollar Man was commenting on how the wrestlers didn't look quite right when he stopped by the IGN office. King Kong Bundy was never this defined, Hulk Hogan never had that much hair, and people just couldn't toss around Andre the Giant like this. Am I nitpicking? Yup, but these kind of errors were to be expected when you dropped old school folks into SVR; this is a game that's all their own. Why have these Legend issues been ignored?

5 stars "Great game"

People miss the point. This game was to recreate the old games and highligthed events in this game. Everytime an A,X,B, or Y is highlighted this was a certian move that was in the match and gives you the chance to see it. Hit A when in Objectives sees you do the move that was in this match.

This game is designed to recreate moves and highlights from the past matches, so does this nicely. Its great to see these old moves and highlights in the game and recreate the moves the westlers did in a certian match. This is the challenge to this game to recreate the highlights in a match.

Seems many have forgotten this is about the legends and to be able to recreate the highlighted moments in the matches.

look at it for this and does a wonderful job. For me I am certianly going to buy it.
