Me and my brother loved the first game. And after playing the demo for this we are more amazed than before. Now there's more tricks, you can hop of your board and move objects to create better skate spots and the graphics are sick! A must buy for any skating fan!!
I would first like to say that I have played the original Skate (and clocked it) and was therefore was a little worried as to what they would be able to improve on. But these worries were not justified at all, as having now spent a good many hours playing through Skate 2 I am really impressed with the improvements. The whole package has been tweaked and adjusted and there are are a huge variety of new tricks to try. Hippie jumps are now possible( if a little hard to master) , and you can also preform handplants, fingerflips and various new grabs ( One-foots, Judo airs, Airwalks and Superdudes are my favorites).
The sandbox environment has been expanded, and incorporates new areas of San Vanelona for you to explore. The security has also been beefed up significantly in some areas ( mainly downtown) , and there is nothing cooler than skating through buildings and grinding down rails with 4 security guards chasing you.
Even though this game is hugely entertaining, it does have some points to it that aren't so good. You will need a lot of patience and a fair bit of luck to progress through a few of the challenges. It took me at least 150 retrys at a particular challenge before I finally pulled it off, and some people will get frustrated with this. Also, some of the trick contests are held in areas that are too cramped or don't have enough objects to trick off, and there are a few minor niggles with some of the new tricks (gapping up to a rail and then performing a handplant is a bit iffy).
But these problems are insignificant, and really do not detract from the game at all. If you liked the original Skate then you will totally dig this one. And for new-comers, I recommend it highly.
SKATE 2 is great fun, and fans of the original will no doubt love it more than the first. Yes, there are still some gripes to be had, mostly dealing with control issues, but they don't hurt the game nearly enough to damage the experience significantly. With a larger campaign mode, a better playground, more tricks, the Hall of Meat mode, and enjoyable cut-scenes, SKATE 2 is worth the price of admission.
a very fun game.
gives you a really good skateboarding feel to it.
easy controls once mastered. graphics could be a bit better
very very good range of clothing and skateboards.
but overall bloody good.
must buy if you love skate games
beats tony hawks games hands down.
and very good downloadable content.
This game is great. It actually feels like on a skateboard and jumping around doing tricks.
The Hall of Meat is really funny, they encourage you to as messed up as possible and they give you money for it.
Im playing this game for the 1st time and it was really easy to pick-up.
Online play is really fun and competive and you can show off your moves to everybody.
Overall Skate 2 is a Great game, heaps of fun for the serious and the fun playing skateboaring person
Just played the demo and man this looks promising! I remember the 1st Skate and it was amazing. The controls, the depth, the clothing and skateboards! If Skate 2 is anything like the 1st it's sure to be a 10/10. They've added new areas, tricks, moves and generally improved it overall! Good work EA!! Tony Hawk has no chance against beating the Skate franchise. =)
I remember my first time on a skateboard. And a few months later tumbling down a hill, leaving a bloody mark above my eyebrow!
Never went on one again. :P
Now if you've ever skated, of course you can't compare it to this game! But what this game does is much more… accurate than it's Tony Hawk brethren, which is nearly forgotten now!
So what does this game offer? Well first, a brilliant control system. Tired of button mashing? Well Skate 2 gives the analog stick a new innovation! I'm sure you've all heard before, but this new system is amazing. It involves flicking the analog stick to do ollies and so forth, with slight adjustments or differing flicks leading to more complex tricks. Quite revolutionary for the first Skate in a Tony Hawk world.
What else does it offer you? This is set in an open world, free flowing town with many varied locales and destinations in it! It's seamless with no loads, plenty of creative and amazing obstacles, but more often than not, they're perfect for skating on. This is a skating utopia. From the very top of the woodland park area to the city itself with all it's structures, then to the seaside parks and sculptures, perfect for skating.
Customizability is a bit lacking in some areas, but there is a large number of skating equipment and brand name clothing. What would have been cool though would be like monthly updates, adding new and recent additions to these clothing and skating brands, but whatnot.
Graphics are not bad but a little bit more polish could have been done. People are a little stiff and not picture perfect but this is about the skating is it not? So it really doesn't matter too much!
The missions are your usual skating stuff. Notice I said ‘skating’, not the ridiculous challenges you may be use to if you're making the transition from Tony Hawk. This is pure skating.
Additions to the sequel are things like, being able to move objects around yourself, an improved town, stronger controls and more skating tricks to do, graphics are a tad better, BUT one thing that really annoyed me was the DAMN DIRTY GUARDS!! I'd just be causually skating along, minding my own business in a rich looking building, doing a couple flips and grind on the nice marble platforms and whatnot, completely innocent… THEN BAM! A GUARD HITS YOU!! Ok maybe not so innocent, but this is meant to be a skating game! Pure unadulterated skating fun! If I want annoying obstacles like guards I'd play an RPG just so I can kill them! Ahhh Oblivion… stop there criminal scum!
Err anyway, if you haven't yet experienced the Skate… experience, then really you shouldn't wait any longer! It's a great game, with tight controls, a fun city to skate around and don't forget the fun multiplayer modes! Get Oblivion too.
Why should you purchase Skate 2 you ask? Are you a fan of the original? Good, then this should be a no-brainer for you. Skate 2 improves on the previous game in nearly everyway possible by adding new gameplay, such as inverts, no-complys and the Hall of Meat. New San Vanelona looks stunning and although the framerate issues are still visible, the online challenges will keep you occupied for a good period of time. Oh yeah, Eric Koston's in it too :P
Whether you skate board or not this game will have you hooked. Not only does it put other skating titles such as tony hawk's to shame, but it has revolutionized a completely unique and realistic playing style. The bails are hilarious, the controls feel natural and it is a challenge trying out new moves and combos. Highly recommended!!
When EA released the original Skate a couple years back, it came out of nowhere, blew the Tony Hawk series out of the water, and instantly asserted itself as the best skateboarding game on the market (so good that the next two Tony Hawk releases tried to copy it, poorly). It was refreshingly realistic and really captured the feel and essence of skating.
Somehow, they've managed to top themselves on the sequel. The city is a skate mecca with hundreds and hundreds of great street spots, the goals have much more variety, the physics and controls are both fine-tuned, and there's some great new tricks. The ability to get off the board and move objects in the game makes getting to great spots a whole lot easier, and really allows you to make your own spots and alter the lines in the city to your liking.
If you enjoyed the first one, you'll want to buy Skate 2. It's such an impressive step up from what was already an amazing skateboarding game. Skate 2's simply the best skateboarding game ever made.
If you have the patience to get good at this game it is far better than any
other skateboarding game feels so much more realistic than tony hawk games tony
hawk is still good cause you can pick it up and play almost immediately but
skate 2 will keep you interested much longer than tony hawk
online features are really good and download content adds to this game I highly
reccomend this game to people who like skateboarding
The first time I played Skate, I just thought “WOW! This is so much beter
than any other skating game”. You can actually imagine doing the tricks,
rather than just pressing X to jump or something.
Although there was quite a few things that I thought weren't right in the first
one, it seems that they have corrected them all in the second Skate. I cannot
wait to try Skate 2 to see if they really have fixed all the problems in
Skate 1.
