Why? because you can use a real guitar to play the game! and on pro mode the controller has 102 buttons to replicate a real guitar it teachers you how to play a real life instrument! never bought a music game before but this is certainty worth a look
To be able to use real guitars and play them to the songs in this game –
I'm sold.
Rockband is gonna crush Guitar Hero. I love both games – but come on, real
instruments!!!
Using the pro-kit add-on as mentioned here, it seems like you'll really be able to somewhat learn how to play a musical instrument.
Was so excited about RB1 & RB2 when they were announced but now that pales in comparison to how excited I am for the release of RB3!
Just can't wait!
Great Game. Hours of enjoyment out of this game even if it's just one person.
Can Download extra Songs or get other intruments to play with aswell. Best music game ever
This is a very good game. I've had a really good time customizing my band and getting good enough to progress to the next difficulty setting. The campaign is a bit tricky to make sense of though, takes forever to do, and forces you to play the same songs over and over. Not many good songs come with the game but there are tons of really good ones that you can buy from the online store and then play within the campaign.
Having all of the other Rock Band games' songs imported to my HDD i began Rock Band 3 with over 300 songs. This is the ultimate party game, and along with the countless amounts of DLC there is something to suit everyone. A highly recommended game for any music fan young and old.
Another awesome instalment of Rock Band, with a great variety of new songs to play, an added keyboard instrument and wicked new features allowing you to customize your rock avatar even more than before. The new ‘pro’ rating addition allows you to use a stringed guitar and 3 cymbal pads on the new drum kit which, if you can pull it off, makes it an even more realistic rock experience.
Got it last evening and after drumming for 3 hours straight here are my
feeling for the game so far.
It feels more polished than its predecessors. I used manual calibration option
using the numbers from the game manual for LCD and it was the best calibration
I ever had with previous releases… spot on.
Some of the new features I loved were – song failures give you more
options… now when you stumble upon an insane difficulty song and just can't
nail that drum solo you are no longer thrown back to square one after playing
the whole show… One of the new choices is to continue playing (you will not
receive any points for this song, but still move forward with the show) –
brilliant…
Loved the songs selection. Buying the songs online is a new experience as well.
The music store interface is incorporated in the game with the songs preview
before buying it – loved it.
I could go on and on, but the conclusion would be – the best Rock Band
experience yet!!!
Rock Band 3 is a crisp, polished improvement on the previous Rock Band games. Its flexibility in all areas is great for playing under any circumstances and the tracklist is excellent as always. And the graphics are excellent. Sure, it's the same Rock Band style, but with much more customisation and polish.
I like how they've introduced the dreaded orange button to the easier guitar modes to help decrease the jump from Medium to Hard.
I have yet to try the Pro modes, but they certainly sound like a much more fun way to learn instruments, rather than mindlessly playing Green Day songs over and over again.
The rock band experience we know and love, shined up, made easier to use, streamlined career etc. Interface and graphical overhaul featuring an overshell which lets you sign in and out whenever. But most importantly, pro mode – you play and learn real instruments exactly how they are written. New cymbals for drums enhance the already great drumming experience and authenticity. Every song has pro drums support all the way back to rock band 1. Vocal harmonies, real guitar and bass parts providing you purchase either the mustang or the squier, and keyboards, which all add layers upon layers of music based enjoyment. But now with real transferable skills. If you ever liked a music game, or even if you are bored of rythmn games completely, this will bring you back.
From a gameplay perspective, Rockband 3 has made a lot of improvements over the previous titles in the series. You can pause and change difficulty in the middle of a song and restart without penalty. You can have any combination of players in your band at any time, and extra players can easily join in even mid-song. The addition of facial piercings adds a lot of personality compared to Rockband 1.
There is a great range of tracks available, and with the new, more flexible career mode, you will be able to play more of the songs that you like. When touring as a band you always have three different options – often a set list of songs and two random or custom setlists from a specific era. I suspect that the new rating system means that lower rated songs (specified by the band) won't be randomly picked as often.
I skipped Rockband 2 because Rockband 3 is cheaper and better.
Rockband 3 continues the tradition of being a great party game with even smoother execution than before. Even non-musical people can enjoy this game.
I am keen to eventually try out the new keyboard peripheral with this game, but Rockband 3 is still a must-buy with just the original instruments. Handily, the extra songs I bought for Rockband 1 work in Rockband 3 as well.
Can't wait for the peripherals. Hope Mighty ape will stock them!!!
The concept is awesome and I've been looking forward to it since its announcement. HOWEVER it seems New Zealand WILL NOT be getting the new guitar controllers, you know the ones that are like real guitars and the main selling point of the game. (notice that Mighty Ape does not have any for sale or for pre-order)
The keyboard could still be quite entertaining and for most people it will be perfectly fine, but if like me you already have a MIDI keyboard you'd probably be more interested in the Mad Catz Midi adapter which would allow you to use that instead of having to buy the new keytar controller, Unfortunately New Zealand won't be getting this ether so looks like you'll need to spend another $200 instead. I know I won't be, especially since the midi adapter was rumored to cost around $70-$80.
You can still play with your regular rock band/guitar hero guitars, but whats the point when the main appeal is to simulate the use of a real guitar? without the new controllers this is just the same music game you've played before, buy it if you like the set list I guess.
With the new guitars I'd give 4 stars, 5 if I could get the Midi adapter as well.
Was going to give it 1 but I give it a 2 because the Keytar controller will still be ok for most people, I'm still just a bit miffed about the guitars and midi adapter
