Description

Resistance: Fall Of Man is a gripping first-person action game developed exclusively for the PlayStation 3 computer entertainment system. Set in a frightening, alternate 20th century reality, Resistance: Fall Of Man capitalizes on PlayStation 3’s superior processing power to deliver a thoroughly believable world that blends epic military action and unnerving horror. Utilizing its signature creative style, Insomniac Games has created a truly next-generation experience featuring smarter enemies, a wide variety of horrifying creatures, physics-based weaponry, playable vehicles and highly detailed, diverse environments. Players will be challenged online and offline as Resistance: Fall of Man delivers an engaging single player campaign, a co-operative mode and one of the most complete multiplayer offerings in a console game.

In Resistance: Fall of Man, the U.S. and Britain band together in a last-ditch effort to save Europe and Asia from a horrific scourge. In mere decades, the Chimera – a species of unknown origin propagating a virus that converts other life forms into more Chimera – has overrun Russia and all of Europe. Humanity’s hope for survival is slim, and the tide of the battle rests on the shoulders of U.S. Army Ranger, Sgt. Nathan Hale.

Features:

  • Resistance: Fall of Man draws players into a deep, frightening story that rewrites the 20th century and pits the United States and Britain against a horrific species of unknown origin.
  • In addition to an epic single player campaign, Resistance: Fall of Man features co-op, split screen multiplayer and highly customizable online gameplay.
  • PlayStation 3’s superior power enables Resistance: Fall of Man to feature a wide variety of fluidly moving characters that exhibit more sophisticated behaviors and interact with their environments more realistically.
  • Greater processing power on PlayStation 3 and Blu-ray technology enables more immersive visual and sound effects in Resistance: Fall of Man, heightening the chaos of large-scale warfare.
  • A powerful rendering engine allows Resistance: Fall of Man to feature a greater variety of highly detailed and interactive environments for a console FPS experience, including large battlefields and sprawling military command centers.
  • Insomniac Games has combined its passion for creating exotic weapons and vehicles with a proprietary physics system to create a unique human and alien arsenal.

4 stars "Playstation 3's classic first person shooter."

Although it's a little dated now, Resistance is still one of the best FPS titles on the PS3. The campaign's story is mysterious and intriguing, and is one of the few PS3 first person shooters which can be played both single player and co-operatively split screen. The game also features a hefty multiplayer, with lots of modes and maps, which can be played both off and online. Sure it may look a little ‘senior’ by current standards, but you owe it to yourself to play PS3's first true classic (even if it's just so you are informed prior to playing Resistance 2, or the up-coming Resistance 3).

4 stars "A solid shooter..."

This is currently the premier shooter on the PS3 – but that's not saying a whole lot right now. It's definitely not breaking fresh ground in any one area, apart from some excellent multiplayer facilities, but in lieu of Killzone 2, we'd take a sequel to Resistance: Fall of Man any day of the week. Is it worth the price of PS3 admission? Well, that depends on how much you love your shooters. But when you factor in MotorStorm too, these might just hold enough clout to sway your wallet towards the cashier. (IGN)

5 stars "Fantastic, like Halo 1"

This game does not look amazing, but it plays amazingly with a friend. Co-op is great! And the weapons are fun. The story is just perfect for the needs of the game play and it takes you through multiple environments.

5 stars "A highly addictive FPS"

This was the game I got for my PS3 and it still holds up today. Graphically, yes it can't compare to the current day games but in pure gameplay it is unrivalled. The only way I could describe it is Ratchet and Clank in WW2. The variety of weapons and situations give you a huge palette to experiment on to pass through the game, culimnating with one of my favourite final levels of this generation. Still worth dropping a few dollars on this as it is one of the most solid shooters of this generation.

3 stars "Launch Letdown but Golden Cheapy"

Resistance is one of those games that although there's nothing wrong with it, it's barely more than an average FPS. As a launch title, I'm sure it kept many busy but at $100+ I couldn't recommend it to any one (especially as I own a 360 with Gears of War, Halo 3 etc). Now the price has dropped and now I definetely believe this game is Value for Money.

Although more recent shooters (Call of Duty 4 especially) run faster and look prettier, Resistance still doesn't look too bad or slow down (or at least not at standard definition). Throw this into a Hi-Def TV and you may be disappointed as there are many better looking games out there.

Multiplayer is great although I tend to think its flailings are due to the Playstation Network. In my experience with the Playstation Network and Xbox Live, I tend to find I run into less problems, and dropouts on my 360 when compared with the PS3 (which I seem to be constantly having to reboot to get a connection to a game, i.e. play one game then search for a host, unable to find one, even if it searches for ages, until I switch off and load up the game again and find a host in seconds).

By all means this is not a necessary buy, but it will keep your trigger finger happy for at least 6–8 hours on hard until Unreal Tournament III is out.
