Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City delivers a true third person team based shooter experience set within the dark and sinister Resident Evil universe and a reinterpretation of the events depicted in Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 3. The setting of the Resident Evil universe not only provides a rich backdrop to the action but delivers a unique and thrilling triple threat battle. Zombies and Bio-Organic Weapons (B.O.W's) add to the mix as players not only compete against an opposing squad but also tackle this third unpredictable element, creating a brand new style of gameplay and breaking the conventions of traditional team based shooters.
It is September 1998 and the action centres once more on the ill-fated Raccoon City and the horrific consequences of the deadly T-virus outbreak from the Umbrella facility. With a cover up required, Umbrella orders an elite team into Raccoon City to destroy all evidence of the outbreak and eliminate any survivors. Hearing of this plan, the US Government dispatches its own special forces to uncover any evidence that exposes the cause of the viral infection and Umbrella's actions. Players take on the role of an Umbrella Security Services soldier (U.S.S.), competing alone or in four player co-op in a battle against all the competing forces at play in Raccoon City.
Expect the return of original Resident Evil enemies, iconic landmarks such as the Raccoon City Police Department and fan favourite characters, including Leon S. Kennedy, who as a rookie police officer in Raccoon City is on your hit list to eliminate. Players will experience a retelling of classic moments from past titles Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 3 and watch the events unfolding from the menacing perspective of the Umbrella Security Service, giving fans the chance to rewrite the history of the Raccoon City outbreak.
In addition, Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City will deliver a number of competitive online multiplayer modes. Each one of these will provide a unique gaming experience thanks to the three way combat between the Umbrella Security Service, US Special Ops and threat of zombies and B.O.W's that could only exist in the deadly and twisted Resident Evil Universe.
A short game with some very obvious flaws. As many reviews state the AI is well below par. Further this game doesn't introduce any concepts or ideas that can't be found in other games.
That said this game is quite enjoyable. Fast paced and quick to pick up. It's also entertaining enough to while away a few hours playing it. The major flaw is that it tries to be a Resident Evil game and simply doesn't have the storyline, gameplay or atmosphere to pull off being a good addition to the franchise.
Over all it is not a bad game, it's just a poor Resident Evil game.
Enjoyable game. Graphics are not bad and hell, its resident evil!
The campaign mode is quite short, I finished it on normal on the first night it arrived and finished half of it on professional mode the night after. Its not a long game, it basically has 6 missions and an ending battle.
One downpoint is the AI of your team mates, they are not smart nor very helpful. At best they draw fire away from yourself. But for the AI to just walk straight over trip mines and shoot you in the back of the head when you walk in front of them is pretty poor.
Multiplayer is pretty fun, but nothing amazing and so far im not finding it hugely engaging. It has some cool modes and the inclusion of zombies being everywhere is pretty cool.
In short it isnt a really bad game, the campaign is fun with friends and slaughtering rooms full of zombies is a good time! The multiplayer may keen you comming back for at least a while.
Id say its worth checking out if its your style of game, just dont expect to be blown away by it.
3/5
I just like to start by saying that this is not a normal RE game, Its spin off so you cant go in expecting RE5 or 6,
I spent many hours on this the first night it came out and im hooked,
Now dont get me wrong its not going to knock COD of the top spot for mutiplayer but it is alot of fun and somthing thats differnt for your FPS shooter that everybody seems to be playing these days,
And just because gamspot and ign gave it a low score it doesnt mean its a bad game, Sure its not for everybody but what game is-
Its alot of fun with a good replay value since it has so much stuff to find, Also fans on RE2–3 Will get a smile on there face when you see racoon city in hd!
This is one for the fans aswell as newbies to the RE world.
The biggest bit of advice I can give is try out each member of the wolf pack to see who suits your play style,
If your in doubt then hire before you buy and im sure you will be hooked on the zombie slaying fun!
I got the chance to give this an early try last night and, even as a long time RE fan, this failed to impress. The IGN review basically nails it; story is interesting but poorly executed, graphics are decent but uninspired, both enemy and friendly AI is really really bad.
Also annoying is the fact that you can only carry a limited amount of ammo for each weapon (150 rounds don't cut it when you're using an assault rifle), which makes the game hard without adding that survival horror tension we've come to expect from the series (excluding RE5, anyway). Maybe you can get an ammo upgrade later in the game, but I wasn't enjoying myself enough to find out.
Basically, it's Mass Effect or Deus Ex HR without the cool stuff. The basic gameplay is the same, with you and your squad teaming up to make it rain lead, although awkward controls (especially the cover system, which automatically puts you in cover if you are near a surface, causing all kinds of annoyance) and the stupid limits imposed (at the start, you can only carry 1 first aid spray, and green herbs must be used upon pick-up and cannot be stored for later) make for a very “meh” gaming experience.
This game lookS really good I so want it now, the gameplay is good a great co op game. And if u love to just kill zombies this has that I'm buying it.
