5 stars "Now is your chance."

If you are mildly thinking of purchasing a PS3, this is the time.
Get a new model with 120gb that uses almost 50% less power and is a slimmer, sleeker PS3 than before.

The PS3 comes with in built WiFi and controllers have rechargeable packs in them so there are no extra hidden costs, not to mention free online play.

With the insane list of PS3 titles releasing soon (especially Uncharted 2) this is the price drop so highly anticipated.

5 stars "The greatest gaming deal in history"

As a proud owner of the original PS3, Xbox 360 and Nintendo Wii I have to say that my Playstation 3 is hands down my most-used console. Now, with the new PS3 Slim you get all of the same greatness – Blu-ray and The best exclusive games avaliable – all in a smaller package, with bigger hard drive at a bargain price!

This is not just a games console – It is a home entertainment experience! A must own for any HD TV Setup!

5 stars "Slim & Slick"

PS3 is really in a league of its own now. It is affordable, It has a huge catalogue of breathtaking games and has a brilliant user interface called the XMB, It has an ever expanding online network called the PlayStation Network for online gaming and the PS3 is also a Blu Ray player which is the next generation of DVDS. The new slim PlayStation has a huge amount of storage with 120 GB Hard drive (which can be upgraded) and a new slim price tag. The online element of ps3 is Free and booming. So what are you waiting for? Get a new PS3 slim and have in my opinion the best gaming console of this generation.

5 stars "Lets Talk Money"

First off, I'm loving the re-design, the console looks amazing, and I will be picking one up very soon.
For those people who are really stuck on what to get, or whats best for their buck, check this link out:

http://nzgamer.com/…box-360.html

This guy gives you reasons why the PS3 is cheaper than the 360, these points are still valid , even though the post is dated.

Hope this helps people make a decision, but heck, still can't decide? Get Both!

5 stars "Just Pure Entertainment in one little box"

Well I finally took the plunge last week friday and i purchased this wonderfil little machine. It was soooo easy to hook up and start playing. This is truly an all-in-1 entertainment experience. Gaming in HD is just fantastic and watching a movie is even better.

Would totally recommend this over the XBox 360.

What it comes with is the best selling point for me:
Blu-Ray DVD player
universal Bluetooth – hook all your devices through this.
Games are getting better and better
Free Internet play
Quiter and smaller than its bigger brother
Comes with the SixAxis Dualshock 3 as standard.

"US Selling for NZ$407...NZ selling for 586.99!!!"

Why is it so much more expensive to buy a PS3 in NZ? Cant buy the US one from a certain website cos it wont play our Blu-Rays… Gah!

5 stars "Must buy!"

I have both an xbox 360 and a ps3 and i must say that the ps3 wins HANDS DOWN!

It has a large range of exclusives that appeal to nearly all audiences, it plays bluray, and it has a much more user friendly menu system.

So overall, i am really impressed with the system and would recommend it to any gamer.

4 stars "Sony now has an even shot at the current generation"

I'm a bit of a nut who buys all three consoles within their first 6 months, but I'm also still much more of a PC gamer, so while I love what the consoles can do, I have not fallen in love with any of them as my primary form of game entertainment.

I'll do my PS3 Slim pro's vs con's with the 360, as I feel that the Wii is too dissimilar in its design and purpose to try and reasonably compare bullet points on that front.

PS3

  • Better hardware package overall, lower failure rate (The MS free replacement policy takes the risk out of the 360 option, but it's still a pain to go thru the delivery and be without your unit for a week or two). Wifi is included in base package if you need it, Blu Ray makes it a real value purchase if you plan to jump on board that side of things and the Hard Drive is user replaceable making it much cheaper to eventually upgrade if used as a media box etc.
  • All of the online is free.

360

  • The premium online while costing a sub if a superior, more feature complete and consistent experience across the GUI and in games and as a result, the online population of cross platform titles is generally healthier for the 360.
  • The Interface is much richer and generally receives new features earlier, more features and a fairly consistent high quantity of new features in each 6 month firmware cycle. Unfortunately, NZ/AU lag behind in the US getting some of the exciting new offerings such as the built in Netflix type service.

The 360 used to have a much richer game library, especially when Sony chose to axe backwards compatibility so early in the PAL region lifecycle. Now however, there are an equal number of compelling quality first party game titles and most other games come out virtually identical on both systems. Choice of system based on software titles alone should only really happen if you have a strong love affair with a first party title that is an exclusive and that is going to come down to taste.

The strengths of the system really come down to the fact that Sony is a hardware company (better hardware that is now finally price competitive) while Microsoft is a software company (better software giving you a better user experience connecting friends between games and exploring Xbox Live games, movies, media center and communication)

3 stars "Good a price drop, but No Linux or PS2 compatibility"

FInally a big price drop and hard drive increase, but no Linux support any more and you can't play PS2 games on this slim PS3.

The people who waited for the price drop to upgrade their PS2 will just have to buy their games all over again. Sony will get their money back that way I guess.

5 stars "PS3 is back in the game!"

With this new slimmer and cheaper PS3, the console war will get even hotter! In my opinion, PS3 is a superior console compared to Xbox 360. It's a bit pricey but you get what you pay for. It's a solid machine with minimum failure rate. The other great thing about the PS3 is that you get to use PlayStation Network for free.

The PS3 isn't just a next-gen game console but also an excellent Blu-Ray player. It's a must have if you own a good HD TV! Great combo!

3 stars "Things to improve and things that work"

With all the crazy specs it has to have it seems like the PS3 is not going to get any slimmer (unlike the almost invisable PS2)

With the PS3 online experience being free its always a good selling point as i pay quite a lump sum for the rather lacking Xbox 360 online play.

if your looking for selling points. only take Blu-ray into account if you have a rather new high def tv, without a good tv its pretty useless, just stick to dvds.

Another good selling point is the upgradable 120gb hard drive. take THAT memory cards!

The PS3 is now smaller and cheaper than ever so now is the time to pick it up for yourself.

All in all its a pretty good buy, slim, cheap (compared to the first release of the monster size PS3), and has a lot of crazy features to keep you entertained. the oly down side is you will be selling your house to pay for the expensive games.

4 stars "A good addition to the PS3 lineup, yet overpriced. "

Excellent, this is perfect timing as my 60GB launch console has just bitten the dust.

I am a bit miffed at the price though. In the US this console is going to sell for $US299, which equates to about $NZ450, yet our RRP is $629.99. Cheers Sony.

That aside, it looks sleek, and hopefully the heat issues that the bigger versions have had will have been sorted with this.

They say Sony have reduced production costs per unit by 70%, lets hope this isn't reflected in a lack of build-quality in this model.
