Description
With impressive 3D graphics support, an action-packed campaign, and an in-depth multiplayer component, Killzone 3 is shaping up to be a genuine flagship release when it hits the PlayStation 3 this coming February.
And now, adding to the weight of anticipation, Sony Computer Entertainment
America (SCEA) has announced a new first-party machine gun controller accessory
that will be released alongside Guerrilla Games’ much talked about sequel.
Labelled the ‘Sharp Shooter’ and looking not unlike an MP5, the plastic
rifle provides safe housing for the PlayStation Move Wand, which sits at the
head of the barrel, while the Move Navigation controller can be easily reached
via a special handle stretching between barrel and magazine.

First off I have to point out that I am basing my review on using the sharp shooter while playing Killzone 3, with both the Move motion controller and navigator controller mounted.
The plastic used for the shooter is nice and solid, and with both controllers mounted, has a good weighted feel about it. Both controllers lock in easily, the clasping mechanisms do not damage the controllers at all. The best thing about the shooter is that all the keys are digitally connected to the motion controller, meaning there will be no wear to the controller via physical mechanisms such as levers/pulleys.
The lack of a physical ‘sight’ means you can't quite aim accurately, and currently there are very few gaming titles that utilise the shooter with both controllers mounted. So far I can only find Killzone 3 and SOCOM Special Forces.
As for the experience of using it in the battlefield I am finding it enjoyable and worthwhile. Playing through the single player campaign feels a little more engaging and having to learn a new way of playing is rewarding. However if you're only planning on playing MP online matches, the dual shock controller is still your best bet.
Bottom line: Nicely designed and executed piece of hardware, but minus 1 star for the lack of gaming software that fully utilises it.
Note: The grey coloured sharp shooter listed on Mightyape appears to have a mounting track on the top that may allow you to connect any future sights/scopes released.
