Fallout 3 is quite possibly the funnest game you will play this year.
As the game begins, you will notice this is no game you have played before. You start by creating your own character, which is incredibly deep, you could spend ages tweaking all. Be careful, however, as this is what your character will look like for the remainder of one of the biggest, deepest games ever made.
Then, part way in the game, you are released from the great “vault” (I will try not to give any more away…) and immediately you will notice that the landscapes are phenomonal. Graphically, this is one of the prettier games released so far on the PS3.
If you are looking for a game that constantly follows a particular narrative, has ‘checkpoints’ or ‘acts’… look elsewhere, because you WILL play this game for hours finding that you haven't gotten anywhere in terms of the main quest.
This is a good thing, however. You want to be checking behind every building, in every house, in every stage of the entire game. This is because Fallout 3 is an extraordinary achievement, and games with such detail must always be explored to every extent possible. The amazingly unique dystopian world which Bethesda has created will, simply put, be one of the best experiences you have in a video game.
The combat is good, and the way that you can freeze the enemy and select one of each and every different limb to pierce a bullet into, is just extraordinary.
Overall, Fallout 3 lives up to all the hype, providing an experience a sight more entertaining than Oblivion, with a compelling story and some brilliant visuals, voice-acting, and sound effects.. Fallout 3 is not a game. It is a total experience – one that is not to be missed. 9.5/10
Outstanding......... A massive post apocalyptic RPG that stays true to the genre of role playing. If you're a fan of RPG titles then you need to see what Bethseda have set as a benchmark for these types of titles. The only downside is the excessive ‘horror’ type imagery (dead bodies on meathooks etc…) which I find is unnecessary (oblivion had much worse sadly :().
That aside it does not detract from a brilliantly designed world where the player really can customize and create a character to their own end. It does have some glitches in the graphics and the V.A.T.S system can be awkward on smaller enemy's.
The slow motion scenes with V.A.T.S have to be seen to be believed. It is hugely satisfying lining up multiple enemy's for shots and kills and then seeing them taken out in a ‘Matrix’ style slow mo' shot!!
You get a huge range of skills, weapons and gear along with character traits to develop in a huge and beautifully designed world of radioactive mayhem. Think of all the post nuclear post apocalyptic movies like mad max,40 days later, I am legend, omega man combined with a great RPG system and you have a game that will keep you locked in for days on end.........!!
Brilliant game just book a holiday from the wife and work before buying..........
I wrote a review for this but then the site crashed. So now I'm just gunna list stuff.
Buy it.
Great game has all the features a real Fallout fan wants (pity its not like the other fallouts). It comes with a lot of surprises and scary features like travelling around the waste land with mutant stalking you. And the Easter eggs in this game are always fun to find. There is so much detail in this game like little objects on the shelf. 5 stars*****
When I saw the game, I was wondering what was all the hype this very game?. Well when I saw the creators of this masterpiece and was in fact the same creator of the Elder Scrolls games, I thought that this might be a good game...... not til I played it ..... IT'S NOT A GOOD GAME, ITS BRILLIANT MASTERPIECE. My advice: Get it once. Your start playing it you would never stop wanting to put down the controller, because its so addictive. Anyway, i give this game a 10/10 result. Good on ya Bethesda Game Studios you have done one helluva job.
this game blew away my expectations. i had played oblivion and loved it, but fallout 3 in the post nuclear setting was far far better. An amazing storyline following the clues to find your father and help him with “Project Purity” can be finished within 3–4 days of hard gametime, but the game can never really be finished. There are so many side quests and areas in the world to be discovered that you will never get bored with this game. I highly reccommend this game to anyone who likes FPS games and likes blowing up zombie brains. 10/10
Amazing game. So addictive. Must have. If you don't have it, then you are definitely missing out on the incredible experience. The game review is found in the IGN website. Once you finish reading the review, you will get game. It's worth a purchase. 200 plus hours worth of game play.
Fallout 3 sees a change of style in the series to a semi-First Person Shooter. As a result, this will appeal to a much wider audience.
Before sitting down to play this game, be sure that you will not be bothered for at least the next 3 hours. This game really does that time. Most of it will be spent scrounging through boxes, toolboxes, lockers, cupboards and the like..
Great game, however there is no Downloadable Content for the PS3 version as yet, which is a massive disappointment. However, Downloadable content for the PS3 is expected to be released in the last quarter of 2009, along with it a Game of the Year Edition. GET IT
… Marred by a myriad of glitches and technical hitches. As much as I want to give Fallout 3 the full five stars it deserves, I can't.
A post-apocalyptic free-roaming/sandbox RPG-based first/third-person shooter, with a plethora of side quests, and an un-fathomably large wasteland covered in ruins and settlements waiting to be explored. Think it sounds too good to be true- Well you'd be correct.
Unfortunately, the PS3 just can't properly handle the level of sheer awesomeness the game presents. All sorts of measures and steps need to be taken to try and reduce lag and freezes, but even then it still happens, and becomes unavoidable when your save file exceeds 10MB (though don't worry, that's usually long enough to finish most quests and cap your character).
Thinking about DLC or GOTY edition- Forget it. The PS3 strains enough as it is without even more things to remember and process. A lucky few can run the add-ons with few severe problems, but it's better to be safe than sorry… The crashes don't do you any good, and you'll probably have console stability issues later down the road from all the hard resets.
Do yourself a favour… Buy it on PC if you can. If PS3 is the only option, then go for this bog-standard version without DLC, just prepare yourself for a bit of a love/hate relationship.
30 core quests, loads of side missions, hidden bobble-heads, weapons and more.Hours of gameplay here.
For the first few months of ownership it was my game of choice after
finishing the main story I spent ages roaming the wastes and completing the
many side missions and exploring
The many tunnels and abandoned buildings .the producers have hidden many
“Easter eggs” through out the game with an almost childish sense of humor
and with the many dlc's added to the game the fun doesn't stop after many
intense hours of combat an exploration
Stepping out into the barren wasteland feels like a breath of fresh air. Killing mutants just feels fun. The graphics are gritty and beautiful, and the main characters are voiced by some well known actors. The story is imaginative and is a good buy.
Initially found it hard to get into the game, but once I had a handle on the controls I tended to get lost in the game for hours. I loved the fact you can explore the entire game on foot, and still get a good variation of things being thrown at you. Being able to stumble on lots of little out of the way places made the game for me.
Was given this as a gift, and have been thankful I have it ever since. There are just so many awesome features in this game, I think I will run out of superlatives.
Storyline is one that will have you up until the very small hours of the morning as you are drawn into this game and you will just want to see what happens next.
Graphics are mind blowing. Facial features, weapons detail, scenery textures look like you playing in a movie.
One suggestion – Get the game guide, as if you don't, there are dozens, if not hundreds of items (Bobble heads are big example) that you will miss. This game is a must have to play.
this game is awesome, specially the free roaming and the creatures u meet are
brill.
would recommend this game actually i would give it 20 out of 20
Upon reading the reviews of this “masterpiece”, it was with some scepticism I began playing this game. However, I can honestly say that “game” does not do justice to what Bethseda have created here. “Experience” is probably a more apt description or as I like to think of it “The Giant Black Hole that sucks time” because in all honesty, you'll be playing & suddenly you'll take a break & realise that half the day (or more) has suddenly “gone”. Although it does have a few annoying parts to its gameplay (what game doesn't?), all in all Fallout 3 is worthy of all the praise & accolades it has received. 4 Stars from me.
personally i love the fallout sereis, but fallout 3 has hardly any guns and doesnt compete with new vegas fallout 3 is really short and gay if it was up to me i would get new vegas but that is just my opinion
It's very good, but not great, b/c for starters there is no immersion in the fight sequences… The better the realism, the more involving and frantic and anxious fight sequences are as a result…
But in Fallout 3, you pause continuously (while I guess the world just stops for you, life seemingly dictated to by your omniscient control and ability to stop the world cos you can't think quickly enough, thus forcing you into not bothering to do so) and unleash a slowly-formulated attack (which you will probably repeat immediately cos your shit-arse stats make weapons unable suddenly to kill) that you then sit back and watch happen like an episode of Jackass…
In Far Cry 2 the fighting is sensational, b/c the health restoration, the weapons loading, unjamming, changing, the aiming, the shotting etc etc ALL occur in natural time… you know, like, um, LIFE!!
So Fallout 3 is, in the fighting, gimmicky and wanes with play pretty quickly, unless you are easily impressed, or equate the kill looking good, to being a good kill…
When a good kill, and a satisfying one, is a millisecond, snap-shot to the head from 20 metres as a bullet whizzes through the air past your head..... Fallout 3 can't replicate this kind of action.
and that, as Yoda said, is why you fail :)
7.5/10
Game of the year? Absolutely!! Just like The Curious Case of Benjamin Button will win the Oscar for Best Film, when it is about the 79th in the list of anyone with taste. That, unfortunately, is the price you pay living in a world of mostly idiots.
