"God of War clone with emphasis on horror..."
Dante's Inferno takes place in Hell and the chapters are based on the 9 deadly sins which make for quite a visceral and gory game. The story is based on rescuing your love Beatrice from the underworld and absolving her. Throughout the journey into the depths of Hell, you are guided by Virgil, a ghost-like guide.
Although sharing many similarities with God of War such as the exact same healing and mana fountains along with collecting "soul-like" particles to purchase new moves, Dante uses more varied magic and you can choose to either down a path of the Unholy or Holy.
There are many collectables, some would say more than any other platforming game. The collectables include; holy relics, unholy relics, shades, virgil commentaries and coins.
Enemies are varied in basic minions to fire minions, exploding minions, heretics wielding sceptres, demons, flying gargoyle beasts and even unbaptized babies. Expect a whole host of gruesome bosses that you can imagine from the underworld.
The game has a few puzzles thrown in as you would expect in any platformer but they are really easy and shouldn't pose any threat. There are cranks to move platforms to open up different alcoves, a lot of rope climbing and wall hanging. These will probably take up most of your time apart from the mini battles with your enemies.
The game is very, very short. I spent probably about 15hrs finished the story plus most of the collectables then did the Gates of Hell mode (God of War challenges practically) in another half hour. So, I would recommend renting unless you're really interested in this game and enjoy a great hack n' slash game.
8/10 (would be 9 if not for the very short length) but highly recommended to anyone who enjoys a great hack n' slash game and doesn't mind a bit of blood and gore.
