Wolfenstein – the very name means history in FPS gaming. Wolf 3D was considered the game that pioneered 3D shooters and made them popular. Return to castle Wolfenstein was one of the most popular shooters of all time. And now with the 3rd installment ( despite its rather, bland name ) I'm left wondering, whats so special?
“Wolfenstein” Doesn't exactly do its name justice, nothing about it is outstanding in anyway, and the multiplayer is as bland as blank paper. However, it is still a rather competent shooter, with some fun to be had. The mixture of occult themes with standard shooting mechanics make for some intense shooting moments, however nothing mind blowing. The shooting itself is fine, and the set-pieces are beautiful. However i wouldn't recommend this game to anyone. Unless they have finished every shooting game from 2008 onwards and chewing their fingers off for more. Wolfenstein, in plain words – is rather unexciting by todays standards
Very good campaign if you are into single player games, although if you are looking for a good multiplayer game this really isn't it. The single player throws surprises at you. It's a great war game with monsters as well, what more could you want? I'd give the overall game a 7 out of 10 but it's definately worth a buy.
As anyone would think, I had high hopes for Wolfenstein.
ID usually delivers the goods in conjunction with Ravensoft.
I'm not going for a long winded review but rather more suited to this – a shocker of a disappointment for me.
I think I played Return to Castle Wolfenstein several times through, then
there was the multiplayer aspect.
I had expectations of something similar but with a improved visual experience
and some frantic running ducking and dodging.
While there is some of his to be had without giving too much away, the “god mode” crystals that you collect make all that fun feel so much LESS fulfilling.
You are able throughout the progress of the game, collect various crystals that grant abilities only to what I can equate to as cheats in previous games, and to that they are nothing original either.
The take of Wolfy has gone towards a hybrid ‘follow me but get lost
somewhere’ RPG elements.
Yes I do feel very strongly about this, I'm sure that the developers thought
hard and long about this choice but it's so plainly obvious that his game does
not know what it wants to be.
Full RPG FPS I probably could have swallowed with the Wolfenstein experience
it could have been interesting.
Or perhaps minus the RPG elements of upgrading guns and meeting people and made
a full on superhero actions game via the use of the special crystals you
find......
No..,
What I was hoping for and was rather off the mark was a basic FPS bringing me
back to the Return to castle Wolfenstein days so fondly missed.
The game feels disjointed side missions not having any real point and in my
opinion the story does not let you become involved in the game until about 3/4
of the way through.
From that point I will same the game can become fun as you have upgraded your
weapons, have all four crystal components and hey if you die, select two of the
powers that the crystal gives you and your sure to pass that section.
I played the game first time on the third hardest setting and found it to be not much of a struggle.
Major issues:
Bad clipping.
Story does not tie in together well.
Game does not know what it wants to be
Game is obviously developed for consoles in mind.
Lack of Nazi special monsters.
Good points:
Game can look good with shader effects working.
Some fun moments to be had with the crystal powers.
Never run out of ammo.
Old Wolfenstein characters make a return to the game.
Some familiarities to remind you of the games heritage.
Fun times in the hospital meeting new friends.
My closing comments are my opinion only:
Sorry guys this is a big fizzle for me, put bluntly. Quake 4 did more justice
for its name than this will do for the Wolfenstein heritage.
The weapon range/upgardes/interaction with the artifact…YES!!!
The dynamics/play/story of the game …Awesome
The map expance… Joy gasim
The statistics/rewards… Makes you play it over and over but in different
ways.
Throat shot gurgles, dismember shots, cremated statistics.
Just a frellin awesome game that I really hope they can come up with a just as
impresive sequel.
Most reviews I have read rate this game fairly low, but I think it is overall really good. I have played RTCW and sure its story is more intricate but the people and scenery look way better and the weapons are cool but wish there were more. This game plays really well on an old ADM3000 chipset 2GB processor, Skt-754 with 2GB memory and a 1GB Radeon HD4600 AGP graphics card. I highly recommend this game if you want to play something different from the norm.
The game is pretty good. I prefer the Return to Castle Wolfenstein Engine though. The gameplay was a bit weird to get used to. Once you get into it though its a great game.
Usually have excellent service from Mightyape. However ,this item arrived late due to mis delivery and then when it did arrive the case was damaged. Disappointed all round as for a present which was given late and damaged :(
I dont really get time to play games but am enjoying this so far – still near the start I like the shooting style pick up a weapon and use it!
The game itself has a fun campain & is alot different to the usual fps games out there as the game has incorporated magic with its weapons & enemys.
I'm going to have to jump on the cliche bandwagon here and point out the dead obvious.
The single player is amazing, immersive and entertaining for both FPS and RPG fans alike. The only problem I ran into was several scenes of the game where the soft shadows would annihilate my frames per second (I'm running a GTX275 which is easily capable). So I had to turn them off…and holy hell, the console is the most difficult to use I've ever encountered.
But thats just me being difficult…honestly if you love a decent horror-thriller mixed in with FPS and fast paced action then this game is for you…its wonderful, visually pleasing and keeps you on your toes.
The multiplayer…is…well…not good. I'd much rather still stick to my Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory
A good game, with plenty to shoot up and destroy, some take a bit longer than others to blow apart but with some good shooting one can do it, shading etc is good. Sometimes a bit hard to work out what one is meant to be doing but overall a very good single player game to enjoy.
I have not played this game much as it crashes so much!! even with the latest patch 1.11.Like everyone else, I wanted something like return to castel wolf, not a game with side missions that keep you from really getting into the story and progressing in the game. 5 /10 I was really looking forward to this .I doubt ID will make another.
This game is a different type of shooter, mixed with spells/magic, gathering
items, earning money to upgrade your arsenal; yes at first you need to get used
to it all (the weird magic) but then is will get to you;
love the upgraded rifle and graphics are excellent !
I thoroughly enjoyed this game. I loved Return to Castle Wolfenstein years ago so had to get this. I was a bit put off by the so-so reviews on various sites though so waited for a special price. Having got it and played it through I think it is absolutely fantastic! The graphics are great but not excellent. The sound is top notch and sounded awesome on my 7.1 setup. The gameplay is awesome and the veil is loads of fun and useful. The only downside to the game is that some of the boss fights require you to do things that don't seem obvious at first. I do highly recommend this game.
Reasonable single player game, right up until you discover that save games
have become corrupted – which according to forums happens very easily,
especially if you collect the secret items. Apparently little likelihood of a
fix to problem as most of the people who worked on the game were made redundant
soon after release.
Basically, don't buy this game unless and until you know the savegame bug has
been fixed!
Single player is like Far Cry 2, except that you don't have to drive a million miles to get to the mission. On Hard mode it is easy especially with all the different upgrades and super powers you can use. The AI is retarded and predictable. There are however some challenging enemies which can only be killed with a lot of explosives, or you can accurately shoot soft spots. The game is fun to play, probably take between 10–20 hours to finish.
I have no doubts in my mind that this will be nothing less than a phenomenal game, unless of course ID suddenly had a stroke half way through. Even then I can't think of anyone who wouldn't like cutting through hordes of Nazis with their own experimental laser cannon =D
