Description

As in the original Tropico, the player will again be able to play the role of “El Presidente” taking over the control of a tropical island. You decide whether you want to use your army to secure your power base in the best traditions of corrupt, unscrupulous tyrants everywhere, or alternatively to lead your people to prosperity in your role as generous elder statesman.

Danger lurks on every corner. There are militant rebels planning a Coup d'Etat for a communistic Junta, while in the background there are two lurking superpowers, the USA and the Soviet Union, who would perhaps prefer a more pliable president in the strategically important island of Tropico!

Features:
  • Rule as all-powerful, El Presidente as you decide whether to turn your tropical island into a vacation paradise, a prosperous industrial nation or JAIL the masses in your Banana Republic
  • Features a comprehensive campaign mode with 15 unique and challenging missions. Players can now wander through a gorgeous, 3D Tropico 3 is the sequel to Tropico & Tropico 2, the critically acclaimed, award-winning strategy/sim classics.
  • Caribbean island as El Presidente to intimidate political opponents, hold populist speeches or just enjoy the Island flair!
  • In addition, a timeline editor, online functionality and sensational Latin soundtrack take Tropico 3 to the next level of fun!

5 stars "Sweeter than sims or sim city."
Fantastic little game. You play as the Dictator of a given island for a set time. Campaign mode seems to give you objectives and so on for a more fulling version than sandbox.

Never fear sandbox mode still is possiblity according to the demo.

4 stars "Good Simulation that could have been even better"
This is a remake, or rather update, of the orginal fun game of several years ago. Not a lot has changed, but with better graphics and a more detailed zoom feature it offers a very pretty simulation. Once you have played thru all the scripted missions, it still has plenty of replayability as you can configure your difficulty minutely with plenty of tweaks - creating as tough or as easy a game as you please. I would have liked to have had more variety in buildings, but what is on offer is very detailed and a delight to zoom into to watch the Sim lifers go about their daily chores. In the end it is a game you can leave for a while and come back to and still enjoy it.

Fantastic game if you are a Simcity type person. Very underrated and well worth a play. Should keep you occupied for a while.

4 stars "If you have ever wanted to be a central American dictator?"
I never played the original Tropico but remember reading accounts of the game and thought what a great idea. The new Tropico is a humerous, challenging and with enough variety for me to still play it months later. It perhaps could come with a bit more historical context, but that is a small issue and more to do with my taste for games. Overall, a fun and clever simulator.
