I did have my doubts about this new version of the Sims. I didn't think I'd like the ‘cartoon’ look of the game, but now I'm playing, it feels right. The actual gameplay is great, your Sims have much more depth to them, and it's far more interesting playing with all of the mood swings and fuller characters. Your Sims can go from one world to another as easily as going down to the shop – no longer do you have to create a new game each time you want to play in another world, a definite plus. I couldn't see the sense in adding the “walk” feature, but in game it's brilliant – I love watching their agonised walk and facial expression when they are busting to get to the loo.

Those who've played any of the previous, or online versions of the Sims, will find it easy to follow the game, if you've never played, there's a step by step tutorial (so step by step, that those who've played before will be driven crazy – there is a way to turn the tutorial off, just google it, it's simple to turn off, but you'll never work out how without help).

I've found that if I have my Sims family (especially good for those with kids) living next to one of the smaller parks, they can use the park like their own backyard, which gives you far more game playing options, like having the kids playing in the park while parents are at home getting on with the chores, learning new or improving skills, or trying to add to the family.

Sure there are a few things missing – the biggest is the lack of the toddler stage (rumours are about that toddlers will be in an expansion pack). But by far the most annoying part of the game, is manoeuvring around in Build Mode, getting just the right angle to add that loo roll! This isn't a problem if you use a ready made house or the ready made rooms that come fully furnished. Though the new Build/Buy mode is easier to use overall, as is the new Create A Sim, it's limited in choices, but then all base games are. There is the new ‘in game’ catalogue, so you can add to your choices on the fly. EA, are being very prompt with patches, you don't need to do anything they load automatically and seamlessly into your game – unless you have auto-updates turned off. It's great to see patches coming out as soon as a problem is noted and fixed, gone are the days of having to wait months for a large patch release. They have even added new content to the game via a patch already.

The game loads at lightning speed compared to Sims3. My computer is several years old, and it runs the game very smoothly on the optimum settings, no lagging and when you go from one neighbourhood to the next, or even from one world to the next, it's like a 7 – 12 second load time, which is amazing compared with Sims3 where you'd have enough time to go and do other things while you waited for it to load.

Overall, if you like these simulation games, this is well worth the money, and I imagine will develop into a much loved game as the expansion packs build on, and develop the game even more.

"It's Sims version 4"

Purchased on Mighty Ape

The Sims 4 is in no way a major revolution in Sims mechanics, however the game does provide some added features to make things easier to use, like the updated character creator, Sims multitasking and the ability to manipulate entire rooms at a time.

So if you are a fan of the Sims you will either love the fact that you have a few new features that really do make the game more enjoyable or you will hate the fact that after buying Sims 3 and it's expansion packs you will have to start from scratch and wait until those features are re-added in future expansions. However if you have never played a Sims game, then this is the one you have to dive into, just be prepared to lose hours upon hours of productivity time as you guide your Sims through their digital lives (I know I have). Overall it's a solid game that you will get more than your money's worth of gameplay from.

"Both good and bad points"

The Sims 4 is definitely easier to run on both laptops and computers. I love that they have feelings and how in depth this gets and wants aren't totally useless like they were in sims 3. But on the other hand going from an open world with no loading times to loading screens for even going to a house within the same neighbourhood is such a pain. Oh well, at least they have pools now (free update)

Description

The Sims 4 Limited Edition includes the Life of Party DLC.

The Sims 4 combines revolutionary Sims with powerful creative tools and all-new emotion-based gameplay, to reinvent The Sims experience. Built on the foundation of brand new technologies that Maxis calls SmartSim, The Sims 4 is the most intelligent, relatable and personal life simulation ever. For the first time, player choice shapes not just a single moment, but the entire life journey of the Sims.

For more than a decade, The Sims has entertained millions of people across the globe and has left an indelible footprint on the interactive world. A world-renowned interactive entertainment phenomenon, The Sims has sold 175 million units to date and continues to enhance its rich multi-platform portfolio with offerings that inspire creativity and reach one of the most passionate audiences in interactive entertainment.

Features:

  • Tell Stories That Span a Lifetime – Life is incredibly rich and multifaceted. The Sims offers players personality and aspirations that emulate the beauty of life but, for the first time, in The Sims 4, Sims are now emotionally aware. They are capable of experiencing a range of emotions that have a direct impact on the way the game is played. In The Sims 4, player choices influence the gameplay not just in this moment but down the line. Just like in real life, these choices have a cascading effect that shapes the entire life journey of their Sims.
  • Connect with Sims on a New Level – Players are in control of a new wave of Sims, brimming over with intelligence and unique characteristics. The result of this enhanced intelligence is new Sims that behave and react more naturally than ever before. Stories unfold dynamically as Sims socialize, multitask, and engage with each other on a new level.
  • Creativity for All – Rebuilt from the ground up to be more powerful and intuitive, the tools in The Sims 4 will change the way players bring Sims and their homes to life. With Create A Sim, players reach into the game, sculpting Sims by hand; it’s like playing with clay, but less messy.
  • The new Build Mode gives players all the control they want with new tactile features that allow them to build homes by simply dragging and dropping rooms. It’s easier and faster for players to create the homes they want. These tools have been designed to allow players to create with speed and flexibility.
