Well I have had this game for just over a week now, and have not played one second of it !!
So far I have downloaded well over 1 Gigabyte of patches and it is still,
downloading Patches.
If I do manage to get into the Game some time in the future, UBISOFTS DRM copy
protection will make me be connected to the internet every time I want to
play it.
UBISOFT should be out of Business, if this is the way they treat there Paying
Customers, by crippling there games to the point that they are not playable, to
stop them being Pirated.
Well Guess what the Pirates are Playing the Game Offline.
The Paying Customer Can not play it at all.
UBISOFT forgot to mention The Settlers 7 is an ON-LINE game. Even if you
play single company or any custom map – you have to stay online all the time.
If you lose the connection (no matter what the reason is) – the game kicks
you out. There is no way to play the game when you are travelling or when
Ubisoft servers go down (very common issue as it turned down). The game simply
won't start without Internet connection, which is really annoying.
This is the last game with DRM I ever buy…
I hear what people are saying about the patches and the size of them to download, but once it is done (and as long as you have Internet access) the game is more than worth the money.
Certainly worth while buying if you are a Settlers fan. This is by far the best game they produced in the Settlers range.
The upside of Internet play is, synced saved games, so you can use on another computer easy if you have multiple computers. Can buy more Settlers maps etc online with game points. Some advantages of online play but frustrating for some people thats for sure.
Settlers has always been a sweet, easy going games series but Ubisoft have really screwed up this one.
After loading the game from disc I then had to download two separate patches that totaled over 1.5GB!! Then the game wouldnt even start because my video card doesnt support shading 3.0. And you have to have a high speed internet connection going all the time to even play the game, what's that about--
After loving these games for years I'm pretty disappointed and wont be buying the next one unless they sort their stuff out and go back to the real deal.
I enjoyed this game though if you have an nvidia card be prepared for some annoying bugs. Tried all sorts of drivers which didn't cure blue screen problem at random times.
