Talk about over hyped !
I felt they could of done more with this game. I got bored after 3 days of
playing it, now sitting on a shelf collecting dust. The only stages I enjoyed
was the cell stage and creature stage. It was downhill from then on. Tribal was
way too short , civilisation stage got annoying and space stage was really hard
to play (even on easy) . Flying from planet to planet got tedious , not to
mention the constant attacks from other creatures and request for help.
Brilliant game!
I think the designers are half the fun, creating your own tanks, boats and
cities etc.
Each stage of gameplay is just long enough so you don't get bored before moving
on, the space stage is just unlimited.
Animation is very smooth, this game is geared towards gameplay, the graphics are
quite cartoon-like in appearance.
More fun the second time round once you know what you're doing. Not a game for
those who want FPS or shooting.
This will have me playing and designing for a long time! It's a
must have!!
Well I totally agree with the reviewer below.
SPORE was so highly hyped which just added to the DISAPPOINTMENT I had to
experience.
Like the IGN, Gamespot reviews state, the game is incredible, huge, fun and
unique all at the same time. I agree.
However the gameplay is repeditive, the game is rather hideous graphically in my
opinion, and there is an issue with it's frame rate or something.
My PC is top of the line and runs all the latest PC masterpieces in FULL SPECS,
but this game is jittery and has slight lighting issues.
I'm not going to go ahead and give it ONE STAR, because it seriously isn't terrible, it is fun and is a great achievement by acclaimed Will Wright.
Hopefully many of the issues will iron out over time with patches and updates. But until then, only buy it if you REALLY like the genre. Otherwise just don't.
Overall, I score SPORE 6/10 for graphics/presentation, 9/10 for sound, 5/10 for gameplay, OVERALL 8/10
There was so much to do and still is
You can play the game for ages on end
The game keeps changing
Its like Sims and age of empires fused and then added a bit of command and
conquer its a must have for all ages game
So, I've been waiting for this game for what must have been 3 years or more now. Eargly awaiting what I thought would be one of the most diverse and longest games I'd get to play. With the oppertunity to evolve and design anything the exact way you want it.
So it finally arrived… oh dear. What a dissapointment. This game was massively hyped, and I really do not understand why. Each stage of the game, from cell to civilization is incredibly limited (read… basic) meaning there is not much to do. To complete each stage is a bit of a breeze. The expception is the last stage… space. This particular area does have quite a bit you can do, but I found it quite tedious and boring tbh, though I'm sure others would enjoy. I expected a BIG game! In one night I had already reached space. And that wasn't even a long night.
Oh well. I think I expect too much from PC games these days. A lot of games tend not to live up to their hype and this is no exception. Overall this is still a good game if you pretend you had never heard anything about it in the past. I also like the MSORG (massively singleplayer online roll-playing game) aspect of it, but thats about it.
This game is so entertaining and so much fun. It's hilarious to watch your creatures interacting with their own kind and others.
About half way through you go from controlling one creature to a whole tribe as your creatures continue to evolve, and it becomes a lot like Age of Empires.
Excellent game and a load of fun.
Great game. Had a few issues with installing it on Windows 7 but after searching online it now works seemlessly.
Had so much fun playing the game and making my own creature. I played for hours and never got bored.
Twas good, very addictive though I suggest taking your time playing this game, I would also suggest this game to anyone who is a fan of the BBC; “walking with” series , although it would be a nice gimmic for the creature you create to drink water
to be honest with ya the story line is completely crap
On the other hand creating your own monsters is so much fun and the simplicity of the process is awesome, so as soon as you start the game theres very little to be confused about and the simple almost child like cartoon graphics definitely fit in well. unfortunately the fact that you only have a limited amount of cash and amount you can put on is a massive negative
but still I'm gonna have to give it 4 stars
Spore great game used by my teenage children and 9 year old niece, they love it! And at $19.99 excellant value

All tho there was a lot of things to do and play around with sum of the stages
that were more that you began to like more were the ones that were the
shortest
Over all it had good graphics
Fun to costmize your creature threw the hole thing
But may get boring after a few days of non stop playing
But works as a great gift idea if u have no idea what to get some one
I recommend this
pretty good at the start in creature and cell stage but thats about it but always fun to pick up and play and create new creature but hardly ever uses your creations
I spent hours on this game, enjoying the challenges it presented and each of the five stages. The only problem is that its replayability is limited. Starting the whole game from scratch, you know exactly where you're going to end up which takes away a lot of the fun.
The one stage I do spend a bit of time on is the space stage. Lots of depth and tonnes to do. I remember spending hours trading spice, going from planet to planet and barely getting anywhere. This is where the cheats come in. Getting a bit of money under your belt can really free you up to go for all of the achievements available. I'm still working towards getting some of these, and I loved finally reaching the center of the galaxy.
I definitely recommend this game, but don't get your hopes up too high.
This game was way over-hyped, and after dismissing the hype, it still wasn't a very good game. The game was too short, too basic and tedious. And although the game provided a lot of customisability in terms of creature creation, due to the differing ‘stats’ on body parts, you end up using the same parts over and over.
The spore stage was the most enjoyable, and surprisingly, I think it was the longest part of the game. Unfortunately, the rest of the game only took a few short hours to get to the space stage, and once you reach that point the game quickly becomes repetitive. I think I played the game for a total of about 2 days about a year ago, and have had no interest in playing since.
If anyone does choose to buy this game, I think the only people who could enjoy it would be quite young children, or people who would enjoy the creature creator on its own. At 1st the 3 installation limit may seem like a downside, but in reality, I don't think anyone would need it.
Spore is lots of fun when you're not in the editors you're running around testing out what you've made!
Problem is once you've done it once you don't really have all that many options to do it a different way! You quickly find yourself realising that you're running out of things to do and for a game with so much potential content that's quite shocking! One of my main issues are that creatures are limited in what you can make. Want to make a giant T-Rex that towers over other creatures? The Editor says no can do… What about a creature who uses hands for feet? Ok you can do that but the creature will walk in mid-air… What about a flying creature without legs? Yes so long as you don't mind it flying through the scenery. The more you get away from two arms and legs the more you realise how limited your options truly are!
But if you can over look those times when the game basically tells you NO! Then there's a lot of to be hand!
Amazing game, there's so much to do in it, the possibilities are endless, definitely worth it =)
ive just finnished boosting to the space age on easy and took me about 12 hours so when i play on the harder levels it'll take way longer and i can see how it can get lots harder
Amazing gameplay better than i expected
Ability to build realy cool buildings but takes way more time
One of the best games ive ever played

Great game, but it does have its flaws. For example, the tribe stage is incredibly short. I don't even think it took me an hour. When I was playing this game I was running it on some low end hard ware so I haven't actually seen all of the effects in the game. Watch out for the Grox ;).
Plot: …hmm…there should be something here.
Gameplay: Spore is one of the few games that seems to be made especially for children that I loved. And the fact that it seems to focus on gameplay more than anything doesn't surprise me. A game that prides itself on the large amount of ‘customability’ is generally going to focus on that more than any form of story. Each level of society you play has it's unique gameplay, even though they are basically more cuter versions of their predecessors. The Cell Stage plays like many an old game in which you have a single 2D plain, and can only move left, right, down and up…and if you are advanced enough, diagonally. You're objective is to eat little coloured balls and other fish if you choose the Carnivores. If you choose the Tree-Huggers, you're going to spend most of the game making friends, trying to build an actual society and so forth. Choosing a meat eater basically guarantees some form of action. Eventually, you will find some cards that allow you to add new features to your creature. You then find a mate and have quite possibly the most erotic sex scene ever, in which you spin around in circles. You then evolve, in which you can add spikes, or jets to your little guy.
After the Cell Stage there is the Creature stage, where a lot of the action is. If you chose the the Tree-Huggers, you will spend this stage making friends and exploring and eating leaves. If you chose the other dudes, you will get to slaughter and eat other species weaker than you, including killing and eating the young in front of their parents (I'm certain this game was gonna get an M at first). You will have to make friends, as it is more rewarding, but that's only useful when you find someone that WILL kill you. The area you play in is quite large, I never really explored much, but I did go quite far. There are many things that make the Creature stage unique is that amount of non-interactive things you see. Like the Epic creatures, which are hundreds of times bigger than you. You will see vehicles go past, meteor storms and even an occasional crop circle.
All over the world there are bones, which when you find will allow you to unlock more features, limbs and other extremities for your creature. If you're like me, you will start off with a friendly looking Crab thing on four legs. But by the time you're more than halfway through the stage, you will be fighting with some incredibly huge, T-Rex looking beats that will eat anything. Once you have eaten enough species, making them extinct (I'm not kidding, that is an awesome feature. I was playing on a local network with mates, and we kept ‘extincting’ each others creatures), you will grow a slightly bigger brain, which will allow you to move to the Tribal stage. This is also the last time you'll be able to change what you look like.
The Tribal Stage is basically the same as Age Of Empires, only with funkier looking creatures. You are now also slightly bigger, so you can hunt and exterminate creatures that once dominated you. Again, if you chose the Tree-Huggers, you will more than likely ending up making nice with the others. I had the T-Rexes, and for once, thought about making friends. It worked on one tribe, but on another, we got interrupted by an Epic, which ate half my guys. You also get a Tribal leader, who is slightly stronger than your normal units. And when he dies, it takes a while for a new one to appear. So when you have all your people hunting and gathering food, and then an alien spaceship comes out of nowhere and abducts your leader, you're going to have to wait before you think it a good idea to go and make nice or war. Once you have taken over everyone, you move to the next stage.
The Civilization Stage is basically a larger version of the Tribal stage. Except now you have cars, planes and boats. Creating these can be fun, as you also get to create all the buildings that go into your cities. You are then charged with either going out there and making friends, converting them with weird religions that involve giant holograms of guys that look like Xenu, or blowing them to bits until they submit. It's all very simple, like the tribal Stage, except it may take a little bit longer because you have more ground to cover. There are also territories, which can easily be captured by finding what look like giant fountains. They are Spice. Spice is basically what you use to trade; it is highly valuable, even though there doesn't seem to be any use for it aside from putting in food. All in all, it's a very simple stage that you've already done, and it's only unique feature is giant holograms looking like Xenu.
The Space Stage…this is where it all shoots off. You now have a spaceship that will more than likely end up looking like something from Star Wars or Star Trek…or if you're good enough, Battlestar Galactica, Firefly or Stargate. You must now go and explore the thousands upon thousands of systems in the entire galaxy, meeting other species that have made it to space. You can make nice with them, or you can start intergalactic war. You can trade with other planets until eventually they want you to buy their systems, adding more and more to your ever-growing empire. This is also the only part of the game that has story. There are a race of beings called Grox. They don't like you. They don't like anyone. They populate a large portion of the inner galaxy. You need to get to the middle. In the middle there is God, who gives you an awesome stick.
Now…to actually explain what else there is. A lot of people say that while the Space Stage is huge, it is also restricted. Personally, I can't see the restrictions. You can find a planet, teraform it by altering the atmosphere and placing plants and other creatures on it with your amazing abduction beam. The Awesome Stick you get from God allows you to completely teraform a planet to perfect condition in a single sweep, which does look quite amazing when watching it from far orbit. It does save you from flying to different planets and abducting things, which is also fun. You will find other planets that are in creature stage, tribal and civilization stage. And it never gets old to fly past and pick up a few members of a massive city and watch as everyone runs around in a panic, unable to send in spaceships to shoot you. You can interact somewhat with Tribal planets, by placing down crop circles, and once you unlock them, the ability to help them evolve quickly, or change their appearance.
Just about all the time, you will be getting calls from random planets asking for your help, because they cannot destroy the five pirate ships flying around, terrorizing them. Or if an enemy of them is attacking them. Most of the time you'll help if you get close but when you are a hundred systems away, it's easier to just say "Fudge 'em!”. But it does get a little bit tricky when you are friends with two different species, only to have one attack another. You cannot destroy the ships because that will revoke your niceness with them, but if you leave them alone…well, nothing bad actually happens, you just have a warning all the time. The combat is pretty standard, you get a variety of weapons to use; lasers, missiles, bombs, better lasers, better missile that blow up ships instantly, bombs that destroy entire planets instantly (Which is never a sad sight, no matter how many defenceless tribesmen there were still alive after lasers had been through and gutted their world).
Graphics: Spore, graphically, is good. Not great (Crysis), but definitely not bad (Turning Point, Legendary). The detail can look good or not, depending on what you are playing the game on, but it will more than likely still run smoothly. If you are playing it on a high-end computer, Spore will definitely look good…and shiny. The only problem with the graphics is on the creatures. No matter what creature you create, for some reason, they will always seem to look shiny. Not feathery, dirty or furry; always bright and shiny.
Overall: If you have kids, nieces/nephews or know any other kids, they will be stuck with this game for ages. If you give it to a gamer, it won't last for long. A lot of people I know who have the game stopped playing it about a month after they got it. Its cuteness does make the game slightly more enjoyable in a way, but it does get annoying watching you creature try to be cute when you've given it spikes on every limb and a giant spinning blade of doom on its ass. You probably will want to play the Creature Stage a few times, and spend a lot of time in the Space Stage. But aside from those two, the other three stages are easily forgettable. The only thing that will occasionally bring you back is in the main menu, there is the creator. There, you get all the creators the game has and can make anything you want. Houses, cars, creatures, space ships, houses shaped like boobs and god knows what else your imagination will come up with. A good game for a while, but eventually, you are going to stop playing it and not even look at it for a while.
Spore is a joke, the gameplay is fun to an extent and the game is good overall but the three activations only? Are you kidding me EA, you've just lost my business forever. Good going :).
