This game although fairly pointed out to being a bit rough – kinda true, its nice to see a game company who makes patches not just to fix what is not correct, but to go out of its way to make things better. Check out graphics of say NWN2 and NWN2 after all patches, quite different / faster load time / optimized engine, the original follows this.
And here you get 2 games, 2 expansion packs – i still have NWN and its expansions on my computer mostly for delving into the deadly traps of the underdark , and fighting demons and saving aribeth killed in the main story.
The second one is not to be missed, there is easily 80hours + worth of content here, not counting user addons and the content creator, good multi player/co- op support. and can be run on old computers/hard ware , with the ablity to slow combat right down so it can be played on annoying laptops with those strange mouse solutions. – but still looks good.
This game is really recommended at least once, i showed the game to my gf who then played for a weekend following the main story.
And this still reminds me of a game developer not afraid to put real depth and content into its games, that has got a story department with skilled writers.
Then there is the satisfaction of building a level 20 – 40 char who is an unstoppable engine of death, at which point your companions are used as pack horses.
Recommended for anyone wanting to see where Modern RPG's on the computer really came from
Tough to play.
I find i'm always messing with the camera view to see whats going on, and the character AI is next to useless, which means activating puppet mode is essential. Left to their own devices fighter characters will run ahead of your rogue to set off traps and alert the bad guys and wizards love getting themselves killed in hand to hand combat.
This requirement for micro-managing your party along with the annoying camera really makes for hard work.
The whole game system seems to have gone backward compared to ‘Baldurs gate II’ etc in terms of user friendliness and enjoyment of the game. I'm giving up on it and I reckon I'm about a 10th of the way through.
The game would be good if they got these issues sorted, which they should be able to do given they're not afraid to make you download hundreds of megs of patches.
