Jagged Alliance: Back in Action is a contemporary of the latest title in the much-loved Jagged Alliance series of turn-based mercenary-themed strategy games. Designed from the ground up to offer a modern gaming experience, Back in Action showcases an updated isometric 3D look and interface, highly detailed character models and a variety of new gameplay features.
Back in Action takes players to the fictitious country of Arulco, where a ruthless dictator has seized power and only a small group of rebels stand to resist him. Tasked with freeing the island from the dictator's iron grip, players will command rebel and mercenary forces while using tactical, diplomatic and economic tools to keep troops supplied and ready for the next flight, all while commanding them directly in nail-biting battles.
Back in Action's innovative “plan & go” combat system combines real-time strategy (RTS) with turn-based elements to guarantee that the intricacies of tactical warfare are rendered in dynamic, exciting gameplay. This challenges would-be commanders to master not only strategy and tactical combat, but also to maximize their team's capabilities through RPG-like character advancement.
If you are a previous “Jagged Alliance” gamer be aware that the wonderful “Wizardry” character development system has been removed ( I think the nearest you will find to this now is “Skyrim” though with less depth ) and has been replaced with a simple “you've got enough experience to go up a level , add some points to a couple of traits”. While the gameplay graphics have been improved , the “laptop” graphics are worse and the NPC interactions have been disassembled. It still has the weapons and it still has the gameplay which requires meticulous patience. Not as good as I hoped but still better than most wargames.
Even thought they call it a Jagged Alliance 2 remake and it is the same setting and story of Jagged Alliance 2, it is definitely not as good as Jagged Alliance 2.
They have removed many features that was in Jagged Alliance 2, such as Fog of War so you can always see where all the enemies are. They also have fewer weapons, you can only place explosives at preset points. They also removed the ability to climb on any roof or cut fences with wirecutters so you have to enter at the places the designers decide. There are many other features that was also removed.
But, if your not really a fan of Jagged Alliance 2 in the first place, then the game isn't that bad. Many people like it, but it just didn't do it for me. Try the demo first and see if you like it.
