Description

IL-2 Sturmovik: Cliffs of Dover is the next World War II flight simulation title from 1C: Maddox Games, creators of the critically acclaimed IL-2 Sturmovik series. IL-2 Sturmovik: Cliffs of Dover will take place in 1940 during the pivotal aerial battle for the skies over Britain between the British RAF, the German Luftwaffe and the Italian air force.

Features:
  • Exciting single-player campaign - The campaign thrusts the player into the middle of the Battle of Britain, where he will join the Royal Air Force to fight the Messerschmitt and renegade pilots on his own side.
  • Massive multiplayer - Customisable modes allow for 128 players in huge ongoing battles that can last hours, days, weeks, or even longer - or simple deathmatch-style free for all.
  • Interactive training - Comprehensive interactive training for new players - fly a real WWII trainer plane with a computer-controlled instructor through a series of training missions.
  • Flyable aircraft - Over a dozen highly detailed English, German and Italian aircraft, with famous fighters such as the Spitfire, Hurricane, and the Messerschmitt Bf-109. Flyable bombers including the He-111 and Blenheim are also available, with all crew positions open to the player. All flyable aircraft come with true-to-life cockpit interiors, based on thousands of hours of dedicated research.
  • Non-flyable aircraft - 13 AI controlled aircraft, including Vickers Wellington, Dornier D-17, and others.
  • Brand new game map - The battle will take place on a large area spanning London and southern England in the north, to Northern France and Belgium in the south. The huge map contains thousands of historical cities, towns, roads, airfields, radar stations, ports, and industrial areas - all located exactly where they were in 1940.
  • Incredible damage model - Every single aircraft component can be damaged for incredibly realistic and satisfying results.
  • New 3D engine - Latest-gen graphics engine with DX10 and DX11 API support. Huge variety of photo realistic ground vehicles, buildings and other environmental elements recreate minute details of 1940s Europe.

1 stars "Incomplete and Over-rated"

You will need a Nvidia GTX 460 series card or better just to run this game on medium settings. I've tried to appreciate this game, but simply run out of patience for it. You can't enjoy its complexities when you are getting 5 fps with disappearing trees, lego block buildings, retarded wingmen you can't talk to and that ever annoying lawnmover sound for an engine! Even the online squad I fly with are reconsidering if and when they should move on from Il-2 to CloD, simply because the game is unplayable on about 90% of our members systems AND only offers about 1 years worth of campaign (which gets very repetitive for a 109 squadron, especially when there is only 1 model available). Il-2 offers us a Luft campaign from 1935 all the way to 1945 and works, CloD doesn't.

4 stars "Cool graphics"

You will need to meet the recommended requirements for cpu and like the other guy said a GTX 460 graphics card or better . I first ran it on xp and a Amd 2.6 GHz dual core cpu nvidia 1Gb Gts450 and frame rates were very bad . Now I have it running sweet on a windows 7 64bit i7 2600 3.4 GHz and Nvidia GTX560Ti .
Graphics are very nice with good detail of everything . There are still some annoying things like not being able to tell your wingmen to do anything and been having trouble selecting different aircraft and payloads , it just reverts to the default . Has only a brief description on the mission objective .It's still enjoyable to play and can take a bit to bring down the enemy .Hopefully with further updates they will sort the bugs out and add further missions and aircraft like IL2–1946 version which made it a excellent sim in my opinion . It's the pc requirements and in game issues that keep my rating to average

"A continuation of the Il-2 series"

After reading some negative reviews I was undecided for a while wether to purchase or not. Received my copy last week and have spent a few hours getting to know the settings and how to try to optimise them for a low specs pc. You will definately need at least a Dual core processor (2.4gig with 4gig ram (min) and a graphics card (dx10 capable). Otherwise you will be disappointed with how the game performs. My system is as above and can only play with a lot of settings turned down. The producers are continuing to optimise the game and performance is getting better and better with each (FREE) update. For those who are into flight sims this is another continuation of the incredible Il-2 series. If you want to try flight sims for the first time but are unsure about this series try Il-2 Sturmovik 1946, which is all the previous series in one disc. There are also plenty of sites with after market mods for Il-2 Sturmovik 1946 which has made this series the great one it is. Our thanks go out to Oleg Maddox and his team at 1c Maddox for the dedication and continued help to the Il-2 series. Il-2 Sturmovik 1946 should also be available from “Mighty Ape”.

5 stars "cool game"

Excellent and a exciting game to play with such detail graphics mind you have to have at least a 4 gig ram and 1 gig graphic card to play also directx 10 so you don't get that lag and it won't work on windows xp 64 bit sp2 but will work on 32bit sp3 as i found out so i had to upgrade to windows 7.
