There is a 5Gb day-one update (probable security thing) and with my rural broadband it'll cost me about half a months usage for some thing i brought physically to avoid things like this as well as 4 hrs (or 12+ as it turned out).
I know this is not mightyape fault but if they know it would have been nice to have been able to save up some of this months cap. an “internet connection required for activation” tag would also be nice as it's not in the “System Requirements”
After eventually getting to play the game i was some what disappointed. The graphics where poor even on max settings. The game was plagued with “quick time events” to do actions you could already do like jump, the game would stop you from jumping the object and it hold you the till it asked you to pressed “E” it would often hold you there so it could finish dialogue or some times because it did not think you would get there that fast. As you can probably tell the game is painfully linear.
The 2 –3 people you had with you where useless! they had cliche dialogue from a bad action movie that took itself too seriously. they where immortal so did not mind the enemy getting past them so you may as well be doing it by your self anyway. They would not get out of your way when out of combat and in they could hog the cover and then demand you follow them in to the open when you promptly die as they stand next to you absorbing lead.
Pretty poor support for the PC, for some reason the DVD only contains half of the game, so you will have to download the other hafl from Steam.
It is crazy, thats 5 Gb, the disk is large enought to hold the entire game but someone at THQ decided that you need to download half of it.
FPS are a dime a dozen, but this stands out well above the pack. Although the
Single Player game is reported to be about 5–6 hours of game play, I can tell
you on the hardest level it is WELL over that and in fact, I have yet to finish
it. I usually stay away from Multiplayer parts of a game until I have finished
the missions, but not being able to get past the helicoptor and the tankers and
their escorts (yet), I have broken my rule and started in on Multiplayer.
Fans of COD will be happy and I think it is better than Black Ops as far as
Game play. Unfortunately, everyone on line seems more skilled than me
<smile>
On a final note, you have a BIG download from Steam to update this game when you
first install, so be aware of that, BUT ALSO this game is cheaper through Mighty
Ape than direct buying through Steam, so make sure you always check.
Excellent game!
Given the huge number of excellent games available today, this one just isn't worth the money. The single player campaign treats you like a toddler and is only about 5 hours long. However you'll take a bit longer to get through the game because you'll die a lot – the game doesn't like you taking the initiative without the its permission. The level of challenge is good, but you never get a sense of immersion because the game is always interrupting you with cut scenes or paint-by-numbers sequences where you can only handle a problem exactly as the game tells you and only WHEN the game tells you.
This is contrasted with the amazing Crysis 2 which has a fantastic story, great gameplay, and never seems to end. If you like a good FPS, then I recommend you spend your money on Crysis 2 instead.
Nice background to the game, which helps set the scene…good graphics but just a bit to short for the single player campaign
