5 stars "Where did the time go!"

I rented Diablo II from my local Videoezy many years ago.

I started playing as a Barbarian, and I admit that early on I was wondering what all the fuss was about. The gameplay is so simplistic, you hold down the right mouse button on you enemy until it is dead.

Eventually though, I saw the light. This game plays like a slot machine, that is to say when you kill an attacker in this game a random item or items will drop.

Items range from common, to unique, to set items, and in between that you have socketed items (customised upgrades) and magic items. Basically there are a lot of items, and the game can be replayed over and over and over again.

And therein lies the addiction.

If you missed out on Diablo or Diablo II, you might be better off with World Of Warcraft which has similar addiction but a slower pace of game. Actually strike that comment, you really need to play Diablo II even if you are currently playing World Of Warcraft or have never played either.

Like every other Blizzard game released in the 1990's to the present day, this is something that every game collector needs and is easily one of the best games of all time. In fact, visitors to the Gamespy network voted for Diablo II as being their favourite game of all time.

Can 70000 people be wrong? The answer, is no. Buy this now.

5 stars "Still amazing after all these years"

I am currently replaying all the games in this set and they are amazing. Find myself staying up really late just to see what happens next. Really good story and cinematics are just a awsome bonus on the addictive gameplay. Best time to get it as it will last you till Diablo 3

4 stars "Highly playable years after release"

The battlechest comes with Diablo and Diablo 2 + expansion

These games are terribly addictive, simple (you play mainly with the mouse), yet complex in its simplicity. These games define the dungeon crawler genre and are a must have in every gamers collection. The graphics dated well and it is highly playable even today. Last time I logged onto battlenet, there were 36,000 others playing. Oh did I mention the online multiplayer is free? Well it is, the only problem I have had with the game is the multiplayer servers can be slow sometimes, and are unlikely to be updated.

5 stars "Classic"

Diablo II: Battle Chest is an amazing package. Diablo II and with the Lords of Destruction expansion pack offers a game with an amazing amount of depth in story and character development. The Battle Chest package comes with a strategy guide helping you get through the game if need be, but more importantly helping you understand the different development paths you can take your character.

4 stars "Hours of play"

You can play this game over and over again. Changing the characters adds more challenge to the game by giving you different strengths and abilities. I find the male characters are stronger and easier to play with, the females take a while to build up their strength and seem to get killed easier. I usually play single player, but as you can play online that can also add a new level of fun to the game. And when you finish the game you can start all over again with the same character and make them even stronger.
A decent game for wasting away some hours.
