"Exactly what a sequel should aspire to be."

Apart from one or two details (Most of which are toggleable from the in-game menu), you'd never be able to tell this was a game released on consoles as well. It doesn't try to dumb things down for the lowest common denominator like many cross-platform releases do.

It greatly rewards exploration, and lateral thinking. Each situation has many ways to approach it. It's not simply a choice of “stealthy” or “guns blazing”. Your choice of augmentations will open up new tactics and new paths you can take to meet your objectives.

As a fan of the original Deus Ex, and as a completely jaded cynic, I can safely say after 2 weeks with this game that I feel it's hit the mark. The excitement hasn't worn off, and the game still feels great. It's everything the fans looked for in a sequel to Deus Ex, and shows a tremendous amount of respect for the source material.

"Not as good as Deus Ex, but better than most other games"

This game is actually extremely fun. It does a good job of prequelling what is easily the best game of all time, ever (Deus Ex) The characters are well portrayed and Gritty brown haired modern game protagonist #456 (Adam Jensen) takes a detour from the usual shooter fare of bulky Square jawed manly men wearing half a tank by being a slender whippet more reliant on stealth.

If you want to play that way.

This is the good thing about Deus Ex which is almost faithfully re-envisaged in this game, Tackle problems the way you want to, run and gun, kill or Stun, or even better, the Zero-contact approach.

I would unreservedly recommend this game to anyone although it does have a few little problems. Chief amongst these is the Bosses. Like Metal Gear Solid 4 the bosses (in MGS4's case the BB corps) seem largely unrelated and are just dropped in so you can fight some bosses. Furthermore there seem to only be 1 general way to handle the bosses. Oh sure, you see this clan of baddies (helpfully named the Tyrants) at the start wrecking up your building and life and fragile meaty body, but that's the only real relation they have to the story it seems, until you meet them in boss fight rooms later because they thought they'd drop in one by one and remind you why you hate them so much and then you beat them and win. It turns out that Eidos actually outsourced these bosses to another company. Kinda shows.

Otherwise the story, a winding tale of secret corporate greed and conspiracy of conflicting destinies of mankind is solid and manages to convey itself without resorting to nine year cut-scenes filled with words. Are we listening Hideo Kojima-

"The whole Experience could be better..."

What I have played of the game is good… It’s the publishing that has let it down. It’s never said in the description here that you “have to have the internet” to play the game. Without it, you can’t play. I miss the old days of getting a new game, installing it, putting in the key code and playing, maybe update the odd driver. With this one I could not even install the game without creating an online account with steam, giving a code, them waiting for a download patch. Then finding it would crash to the desk top randomly. It is steam or the game its self- I don’t know, never used steam before. This is not the first game I have played games that needs lots of prerequisite online palaver to play. It looks like it’s starting to be the norm with PC gaming, a shame I think.

Now, what I have played of the game looks good and has been fun so don’t let that put you off. But if you have the option, if I was to do this again I would get it on a console. I would miss the controls and graphics somewhat, but PC gaming is just getting too hard for the casual gamer.
