Utilizing the Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare engine, Call of Duty: World at War throws out the rulebook of war to transform WWII combat through a new enemy, new tactics and an uncensored experience of the climatic battles that gripped a generation. As U.S. Marines and Russian soldiers, players will employ new features like cooperative gameplay, and weapons such as the flamethrower in the most chaotic and cinematically intense experience to date.

Call of Duty: World at War introduces co-operative play, bringing fresh meaning to the “No One Fights Alone” mantra with up to four-players online for Xbox 360, PS3 and PC, or two-player local split-screen on consoles. Nintendo Wii will also support a unique co-op mode for two players. For the first time ever players will experience harrowing single-player missions together for greater camaraderie and tactical execution. The co-op campaign allows players to rank up and unlock perks in competitive multiplayer by completing challenges and earning experience points, adding continuous re-playability and team-based gameplay. Whether playing competitively or cooperatively - if players are online with Call of Duty: World at War - they will always gain experience points. Based on a player’s experience rank and rank of the player’s friends, Call of Duty: World at War will scale dynamically to provide a deeper level of challenge.

Building on the Call of Duty 4 engine, Call of Duty: World at War thrusts players into the ruthless and gritty chaos of WWII combat like never been before, and challenges them to band together to survive the most harrowing and climactic battles of WWII that led to the demise of the Axis powers on the European and South Pacific fronts. The title re-defines WWII games by offering an uncensored experience with unique enemies and combat variety, including Kamikaze fighters, ambush attacks, Banzai charges and cunning cover tactics, as well as explosive on-screen action through all new cooperative gameplay.

Features:
  • Call of Duty 4 Technology - Built using the Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare engine, Call of Duty: World at War utilizes a bedrock of technology that delivers jaw-dropping visuals, while empowering players to employ elements like fire to affect the dynamics of the battlefield. Players that attempt to harness the power of new weapons, like the flamethrower, will find themselves capable of burning away environmental elements that give cover to a camouflaged enemy, leaving a charred battlefield - and their foes - in their wake.
  • Coordinated Assault and Support - For the first time in the franchise, Call of Duty: World at War introduces co-op, bringing fresh meaning to the “No One Fights Alone” mantra. Call of Duty: World at War co-op features up to four-players online, or two-player local split-screen, allowing gamers to experience harrowing single-player missions together for greater camaraderie and tactical execution. The title also incorporates traditional multiplayer components such as challenges, rankings and online stats into the co-op campaign for deeper re-playability and advanced gameplay..
  • New Theaters of Operation - Players fight as U.S. Marines and Russian soldiers facing enemies - some new to the Call of Duty franchise - that employ lethal new tactics and know no fear, no mercy, nor the rules of war. Epic conflicts are fought on multiple fronts, playing through the climactic battles of WWII in the grittiest, most chaotic and cinematically intense experience to date.
  • Innovative Multiplayer - Multiplayer builds from the success of Call of Duty delivering a persistent online experience for more squad based interaction. New development with party systems allows an intimacy with squad based combat never before seen in Call of Duty. Combined infantry and vehicle missions add a new dimension to the online warfare and offers more PERK abilities.

5 stars "Molotovs, Nerve gas and the Imperial Japanese Army, OH MY!"

If you thought modern warfare was fun, wait until you see World at War. It's being developed by Treyarch, rather than infinity ward, but don't worry, its in good hands. Singleplayer looks far more epic than modern warfare, not to mention the 4 player online co-op, and has finally included the Pacific Front. Although there still isn't a campaign from the opposite perspective, playing the americans and Russians is still going to be fun.

With multiplayer the look and feel is relatively the same, yet very much refreshed and far more ferocious. Customisation will be increased, with perks that change the physical look of your avatar from Shades (that negate flash bangs) or gas masks (that negate Tabun Nerve Gas). I can't wait to play this beast in November.

4 stars "Explosive, enjoyable action and Zombies "

While the WW2 era is starting to get fairly overused and boring in the gaming industry, Call of Duty 5 is a stellar title to fill the gap.

Singleplayer wise, you will fighting as a US marine and Russian soldier in the Pacific theatre of war and the Eastern front, usually underused in the WW2 genre of shooter games, which is a good thing as the Japanese and germans offer a larger variety of enemies – snipers in trees and banzai charges just to name a few. The Storyline is engaging enough however not to the extent of Brother in Arms or Call of Duty 4's to have believable tangible characters. While the Singleplayer is fun, many of the levels have poor level design, for instance, running through a trench being killed at the same point by the same mounted machine gun is not fun, it is frustrating. The lack of flanking however does not give you any choice. Respawning enemies with invisible triggers can frustrate you more.

Multiplayer wise, World at war excels above Call of duty 4. World at war has kept all the best parts of cod4's multiplayer (killstreaks and perks) and replaced much of the aspects of it's predecessor with more enjoyable alternatives. Weapons feel more balanced and has all the substance of previous titles in the franchise that made the games fun.

Co-op is a nice feature to this game, the singleplayer campaign is playable co-operatively online with strangers or friends and the Nazi zombies mode, which puts you and 3 others against an endless horde of zombies is excellent fun

Graphics is a hit and miss, In parts it looks spectacular with brilliant lighting, explosive set pieces and some superb character models however there are times where the low res textures and animations will come in, but Generally the game looks and runs great with these graphics

5 stars "Awesome!"

Got this game for a pretty cheap price (thanks MA!), and even though its considered an old game- its still AWESOME!
The gameplay design is excellent, the environment and the enemy AI makes it very convincing you are in the boots of a soldier in WWII. Unlike some other FPS games, this one requires constant attention especially on higher difficulty. It is easy to be killed so you are encouraged to think about who to kill and to which cover you run to.
The story line feels detached (except that everyones fighting to get to Berlin) because you play as an American soldier and a Russian soldier, but I really enjoy the small introductions to each level just to keep you updated on whats happening. The missions are well thought out and the objectives are creative and WWII inspired.
No major negative points, I did find the overall game rather short, and on very rare occasions the AI are rather stupid (only rarely), these shouldnt be bother though.

Overall, Brilliant. This game emerses players deeply into a world on hurt. A must have for Call of Duty fans, and a “must try out” for FPS and WWII game fanatics.

5 stars "Great"

Brilliant game, short campaign but what do you expect from a war game. But even though the campaign is short its good and replayable in co-op. Great online play as expected from a cod game . And Nazi Zombies will keep you going for hours Its that awesome.
