The Wii Philosophy A New Style of Gaming Wii will break down that wall that separates video game players from everybody else. Wii will put people more in touch with their game… and each other. But you’re probably asking: What does the name mean? Wii sounds like “we,” which emphasizes this console is for everyone. Wii can easily be remembered by people around the world, no matter what language they speak. No confusion. No need to abbreviate. Just Wii. Break Down the Walls With each passing year, video gaming has become an exclusive experience. The complexities of some of the newest games have alienated those who used to play games with their entire families. Wii changes all that. Nintendo has created the most inviting, inclusive video game system to date. Thanks to our unique controller, anyone of any age or skill level can pick up and play games on Wii. And they will have an incredibly fun time doing so. That's not to say we've forgotten about the core gamer. Not by a long shot. In fact, Wii gives them the best gaming experience yet. Take a look at some of the games Nintendo and our partners have to offer, and once you try them out, you will be convinced that a revolution in gaming has begun. Soon, the future will be in your hands. When you get a chance to play, you will believe Wii is the next leap in gaming to a new generation. Expanding the Audience Over time, gaming has become overwhelming to people. Wii returns gaming to simpler times while innovating game development at the same time. The unique Wii Remote gives parents and grandparents a chance to play games with their children. It gives gamers and traditional non-gamers a chance to share the same experiences in this new generation of gaming. For those who grew up on video games, Wii shows that games have not outgrown them. Unique Experiences Wii makes you feel less like a player and more like you're in the game. Frenzied sword battles are no longer confined to pushing a button. With Wii's unique freehand controller, Nintendo puts you in the middle of the action. Forget about pushing a button to start a golf backswing. Wii lets you swing the club! Don't push a button to swing a sword, actually swing the sword. Video games have always been a part of you, now you get to be a part of them. Step up to the next level of gaming. The Controller Games are many things to different people. Some see games as gateways to an unknown universe while others see them as extensions of the world around them. Nintendo created Wii to fit everyone's ideal break away from the everyday. The wireless, freehand Wii Remote not only makes games easy to play, it makes them more fun than ever before. Accentuating the sense of touch in the game lets you feel the heat of emotion with each movement. Because up to four players can grab a Wii Remote and play, there's always a party ready to happen with Wii! Wii Remote The Wii Remote frees you from cords and excessive, complicated buttons without sacrificing gameplay depth. The motion sensors contained within the Wii Remote and the Nunchuk controller add totally new interactions to existing games while opening doors for new genres. Wii makes your senses come alive! Wireless and motion-sensitive, the Wii Remote offers an intuitive, natural way to play games. The ergonomic controller plays into the conventional motions you make everyday. When you hit a drum, swing a tennis racket or swing a bat: Why should you have to press a button to replicate these things? With the Wii Remote, you can use everyday motions to help make you the center of the game. Nintendo designed the Wii Remote to be the most multifaceted gaming device ever. It can be a sword in one game and then a steering wheel for racing games. It's your paintbrush, your golf club, your airplane, but most of all, it's your key to unlocking a world of fun you've never imagined. Nunchuk Controller Connect the Nunchuk controller to the Wii Remote and get ready. You've just begun a journey into the most immersive, heated gameplay experience ever offered. This combo offers the utmost precision. They're your sword and shield to defend Hyrule in The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess. They're your weapons to blast your way through the harried world of Metroid Prime 3: Corruption and the gritty underworld of Red Steel. The Nunchuk controller and the accelerometer contained within it are the next leap in gaming. In first-person shooters, the controller carries the burden of movement, freeing you to aim and fire using a more natural motion with the Wii Remote. In a football game, you can make your quarterback elusive with the Nunchuk controller while you look for an open receiver to throw to using the Wii Remote. The Nintendo Wii Console Approximately the size of three stacked DVD cases, Wii's elegant design makes it an inviting addition to your entertainment setup without monopolizing it. Thanks to the Wii Remote, you're given more freedom to place the console where it best suits your lifestyle. Key Hardware Features Controls: Intuitive control for anyone using the physical motion of the main Wii Remote, which resembles a television remote control. Up to four Wii Remotes can be connected at once using wireless Bluetooth technology. The wireless signal can be detected within 10 meters of the console. Both the Wii Remote and Nunchuk controllers include a three-axis motion sensor. The Wii Remote also includes a speaker, rumble feature and expansion port, and can be used as a pointer within 5 meters of the screen. "FUN!"
Hardcore gamers will get bored of this fairly quickly, no doubt about it. It can also be expensive if you want all 4 remotes/nunchuks. You don't really need any more than 2 nunchuks though, and if you can get 2 extra nunchuks in combo with 3 games at the moment, so it's not so bad.
However, once you have them it is a joy. Most of the games are casual - you can pick them up, play for an hour or two then put away no biggie. There's not many games you would sit and play for hours on end, except maybe Zelda. However, if you're after FUN! And I mean laughing with friends, by yourself, then the Wii is WAY the best. I've owned consoles/PCs for years, and rarely had genuine laugh our loud crazy FUN like I have with the Wii. There are really a lot of great fun games out there, though generally 3rd party manufacturers have done a poor job compared to Nintendo's first party titles. For example, Wii Sports Golf is STILL the best golf game out there sadly enough, even with Pangya and Tiger Woods '07/'08. But by the middle of this year, the following titles will be available: Mario Kart Mario Galaxy Zelda We Love Golf/Tiger Woods '09 (? - maybe later in year?) WarioWare Smooth Moves Super Smash Brother's Brawl Wii Fit Bully Scholorship Edition Spore Geometry Wars: Galaxies Mario Strikers Charged That is a very impressive list of genuine top tier games. Yup, most are designed to be played with other people, but that's what the wii is all about. As a side note: The Wii remotes and Nunchuks are WAY too expensive in NZ, considering the currency rate. There's something very wrong there.

"One Great Package"
Since its release in 2006, Nintendo's Wii has marked its place in gaming history. After the release of the Gamecube (which had some good games) many thought that Nintendo was over. Microsoft had entered the gaming market with the Xbox, and now the Xbox 360 (which is lacking in sales) and Sony's Playstation was feeling like the new king. However, PS3 sales were low at first, thanks to it's steep price and lacking number of games (this has all changed now, though)
But even two years on, the Wii is the top seller month after month after month. And it is for a good reason. I own every games console - even consider myself a hardcore gamer, but I still play my Wii (which I have had since launch) every day and it still is brilliantly fun. Next year, Some pretty exciting additions are coming. Wii Motion-Plus is going to further revolutionize motion controls, and with the release of Wii Sports 2 is imminent. One other thing, 2008 saw the release of Wii Fit, Wii Music but I do feel that the Wii still lacks the release of enough top quality AAA titles, sure, I still play Resident Evil 4, Wii Sports, even Mario Party or Mario Kart when friends are over, but Im hoping that Nintendo has some big things planned for next year, to ensure that my Wii will continue to see the love it does now.

"And now for something completely different..."
Probably the greatest innovation in gaming since its inception!
This is a console that is so much more than the sum of its parts, essentially this console is dragging us into a new interactive reality, it may not give us the in depth graphics of the PS3 or the x360, and it may not carry such block busters as Halo 3, but what other console gives you a workout at the same time as playing your games? And in all honesty, I can't remember the last time I had so much fun in a gaming environment as with the Wii!! This is just what the doctor ordered! For many of us, our way of life sees us going to work, then settling in for the evening with only a DVD or a game to keep us company... what if that game required more than just a mental workout? Nintendo have shown us time and again that innovation is their true skill, the Wii again leads the field of the consoles with it's innovative (yet, amazingly simple) interface, and a re-hash of some classic games, along with many new arrivals! Wii sports on its own, as packaged with the Wii is enough to keep even the most hardy of console jockey's occupied for many hours! With its array of "quirky" games, even the most hardy of gamers (such as myself) can find many varied games to enjoy... sometimes in the least expected genre! To play on one is to love it, to own one is to be the envy of your friends! The only niggle I could ever find with this is that you get merely one controller with what is obviously a party machine, and to expand for up to 4 players does not come cheap, but in the end... for those lazy (well, not anymore!) nights in, it's worth it! Play and enjoy!

"Fun for the whole family"
Gaming has become too focused on graphics and who's looks the best and started to lack on game play. The Wii finally has brought this to a reality. Sure it may not look cool graphically but hey who cares when you're having fun?? With the PS3 way overpriced and already owning a 360 this is a great and most welcomed addition to my family. And price wise its not badly priced where can u buy a console that has 5 games that automatically come with it? Even the mighty PS2 will cost more than 500 once you have added 3 games and a memory card! I say bring back the FUN to gaming!

"better than Ps3"
Well, ive had my Wii since lunch date, and its been used every single day since, We had a PS3 (found out it was like a flower, was pretty at first, then just rotted) Since this time my bother has sold his PS3 and purchased his own Wii. My whole family now enjoys many of the mutilplayer games (espc Wii Sports) Many of my friends who have visited and enjoyed the experiance have gone on to purchase their own systems, as they themselves enjoyed it so much.
So to anyone looking for a system that is great for large groups of friends (or solo) and one that wont hurt the budget (come on PS3 = same price as a house) then the Wii is the way to go. FeedbackIf you think we've made a mistake or omitted details, please send us your feedback. |
