First, a little piece of history.
This game was directed & designed by the same team who later used the same
engine to make Super Mario Galaxy.
The game was first released on the Nintendo Game Cube, and was controlled by a
set of bongo drums. The game has been reworked to use the Wii controls, &
had it's levels altered for improved gameplay.
Now, on to the review:
Polish, that's what you'll find here. From the bristling fur on DK's body, to
the precision platforming game play, to the inspired level design & combo
system. Almost everything is polished to perfection.
The game is a side scrolling 2D platformer, but this isn't just running &
jumping.
The progressively challenging gameplay will lead you to completing some levels
starting with a single jump, & not touching the ground until the end. On top
of that, each world ends with a boss fight against great bosses that require a
quick eye & precision timing.
In fact, if I had to find something to gripe about this game, it's the menu system. You have to pick your level with the analogue stick, rather than pointing at it with the pointer… and when that's the worst thing you can think of in a game, you know you're in for something special.
I bought this for my girlfriend after she had recently clocked the super mario space galaxy game and wanted a new game to play.
She has been playing this for over a week now and really loves it.
The game play and challenges are like the Super Galaxy game so if you liked that game you will lke this one.
Graphics and the game play are good.
