This is not a review rather an impression regarding playing the game for a day or so. Little King Story contains no motion controls, no use of the pointer, no online, no mulitplayer, no mini-games, no highscores, no cars, no guns, and no bouncing boobs. These are not faults and seem to reflect the confidence placed with the content, story and design of the piece, perhaps the biggest fault of this game will be it will not be seen by many people, it will be dismissed by those who see the awkward and forgettable title, perhaps the 7+ age rating will drop a few more out, the cartoon assemblage of Japanese and western will exclude and confuse many tastes, the lack of Mario in the title and any advertising will drop it from the shelves after one week and this is a symptom of Nintendo's daunting AAA title dominance.
Little King Story manages to entangle aspects of Pikmin (control, battle system, subsequent guilt of landscape acquisition and character death), Harvest Moon (creation of buildings, managment of resources, NPC character emotions such as hate, desire, love), Animal Crossing (day/night duration, absurd and delightful character design) Chibi-Robo (superb subtly in writing and timing). This is a sophisticated game and its exceptional designers know how to slowly reveal the game to you, it never adds pointless fetch quests or grinding as a way of padding out the game length, simply playing and exploring is rewarded by its wonderfully curious and cliche free scenery. This is a game that will be scarce and attract high prices on eBay over time, it will be lovingly discussed by game critics and unsuccessfully mimicked by designers for many years, if you give Little King's Story one chance it will hook you in with its humble and understated introduction.
But that's just my opinion after a day.
After reading rave reviews about Little Kings Story I purchased a copy with low expectations, given that rave reviews tend to be the most disappointing games.
Starting the game was straightforward with good use of both the nunchuck and
the wiimote buttons being used to full capacity.
Good tutorials throughout the game reveal how much more you need to learn and
makes gameplay far more intuitive.
Using the Z control allows for easier gameplay, as does using the + buttons
to reorganise your party.
Once a battle commences, recalling your minions is extremely easy, with next to
no lag time before minions retreat.
This will be a game that can keep on being played for a long time to come.
This game concept is rather simple, you are a king and you will need to clean up your land, invade neighbors, order your people to do their jobs etc. the idea is similar to harvest moon except the combat part which is the same as overlord (you don't actually do anything yourself, and can only everyone to attack / retreat)
The only thing I don't like about this game is how they use nunchuck to control direction, this can be rather difficult especially during combat scene since you need to aim at moving boss before ordering your troops to attack (otherwise they will just run around bouching like mindless drone)
It's official, I'm hooked.
This game is so much fun. You play as a kid king who loves to bawl his eyes out at bad news, has some very strange Ministers and runs around playing in his kingdom.
Your loyal subjects are adults, who you assign jobs such as carpenter, farmer, miner a la The Settlers. You then get them in your party to go around the countryside fighting enemies, as they all have their abilities you can use, for example, trees in the way? Get a lumberjack onto it!
Strangely enough, when citizens aren't in your adventure party roaming around they tend to just loiter and do nothing back at the village. Lazy adults!
The game has subtitles although everyone is speaking some random made-up asian sounding language.
It's a great game. There are lots of challenging fights, heaps of things to build and improve in the kingdom, and a naked musical cow type guy. Why wouldn't that be fun?
After a period of getting use to the game, it gets more and more addictive. Great for kids and adults alike…
I love this game its very cute and if u like puzels u will like this game and its also funny at times so u will giggle here and there but i garentee that u will like it for sure:)
If you like games that are no over in 10 mins then this is great, also if you like Harvest moon then you will like this game.
Very fun, very in depth, your a tiny king that's taking over the forest how unlikely is that?!?
There's something very charming about Little King's Story – with the classical music soundtrack and gibberish speak. These might actually annoy some people, but the gameplay is very good. The lack of using the Wii's full functionality is not really that much of an issue, but it would've been nice to see some motion-based action in there.
It reminds me of Harvest Moon and Pikmin, actually. You become attached to your people as you expand your kingdom, take part in combat and explore the world. Don't be put off by the age rating. Little King's Story is suited for all ages.
People should stop writing great reviews about this game and just keep it a secret. If I ever lost my copy I would need to replace it and I don't want stock to run out. It's a steal at this price and hard to find. Maybe I should buy a second copy just in case.
4.5 Stars **** This game is great. If you like Animal crossing and Pikmin you will love this. Good for all ages and sexes. Keeps you entertained and slowly gets you addicted. Little Kings story is a big hit at our house! While hubby plays the whole family can be drawn in watching.
Round up a crew, kick the lazy sods in your town to work, build up your empire, and start earning loads of Bol (mulah$$$) But be careful, build wisely and spread your towns talents or you wont be able to move on… ;-)
