Not really a game as such but a fitness regime, but still different from the existing wii fit, it looks like they could complement each other nicely. Who needs to buy fitness equipment any more, if you kids have a wii get yourself wii fit or wii active. I wouldn't like going to a gym but in my own home I could see myself trying this as an alternative.
This game is far better then Wii fit. Unlike Fit that has no structure or guidelines to help you work out, EA Sports Active gives you a set of exercises to work through. This is game is more focused and designed to help someone lose weight. Wii Fit is more game like, the games are really short and you have to go to the next one yourself. I think Active is a better system then Fit.
I really enjoy this fitness program. It's not at all boring because each
day your doing a different workout. This gives you the motivation to want to see
what's next. The 30 day challenge is a great idea, and as your fitness level
increases, so do the exercises.
Overall, this is a great program for someone wanting to get fit from the comfort
of their own home.
A real workout in just a few minutes. Designed for the next step past the couch potatoes aimed at by Wii Fit. It challenges with a group of exercises, combining cardio and resistance. A Nunchunk is essential; the balance board is optional in this fitness game.
Workouts can be the preset ones, or custom built. If one of the exercises in
the preset is not right for you, then it can either be deleted from that set, or
skipped. As the basics are learnt, and after progressing through a number of
exercises or minutes, trophies are awarded.
Boxing includes both punch bag and targets (repetitive or random) and if using
the balance board kick boxing can be included.
Running and walking combinations or short, medium or long durations; dancing;
sports of tennis, volley etc; squats, stretches, – this game covers most of
the basics.
It does not use your personal Mii, but does allow you to build a character to
represent you. And it does not record weight, BMI etc as the Wii – that's up
to you to monitor.
Comes with the leg strap and resistance band.
Enjoyable, motivational, energy tracking, and with constant feedback – both
positive and encouraging. Checks speed and technique.
Quick delivery of just one day from Mighty Ape too!
EA Sports Active is a very relevant step up in exercise intensity for those who are used to the Wii Fit regime. With the addition of the leg strap (for the Nunchuck) and resistance band for upper body workouts EA Sports Active has the unique ability to hone in on those muscles left alone by counterpart ‘exergames’.
Selecting the ‘Hard’ workout setting will definitely raise your heart rate and if your like me (or even my much fitter girlfriend) you'll come away from some of the preset regimes with some muscles feeling very well worked and potentially even sore the next day.
If you don't mind having someone in the living room with you when your running on the spot or doing crazy jumping lunges you might be interested in the extra accessory pack which comes with the leg strap and band allowing you to work out with a friend.
If you combine (even on alternate days) EA Sports Active workout regimes with
some Wii Fit exercises it is my view that you are going to get a very good all
round workout. Rather than being two competing products in the Exergame genre
they actually tend to compliment each other:
EA Sports Active lifts the heart rate higher providing more resistance and a
well structured workout and Wii Fit really works on your core promoting strong
abs and the surrounding muscles for balance and stability.
Definitely worth the money…
All the things that make Wii Fit work are missing in Wii Active. This is
clearly a product designed by a company that is used to writing complicated
software for kids and doesn't get it when it comes to engaging adults.
The interface to play the game is much less intuitive and much less fun than Wii
Fit. You can use their 30 day program but are stuck with a lot of stuff you
won't want to do forcing you to customize and spend more time than desired. You
really can't just plug in the game and start exercising.
The exercises themselves are inconsistent. Some are good (the boxing), some are
utterly boring (in-line skating) and many do not register on the screen properly
as you are exercising which is totally frustrating.
If you have Wii Fit you will miss the simplicity of the design that makes it so
easy to use and popular.
The balance board is really superflous to the game for the most part so don't
worry if you don't have one.
The best parts of Wii Active are fixing some of the annoyances of Fit. You can
customize a program for yourself instead of having to navigate back and forth.
You can also exercise with a partner (although the product does NOT have 2 sets
of required equipment as the ad states. You will have to buy a 2nd set if you
want to have another family member join).
Save your money and buy an exercise tape, or Wii Fit. It will be more enjoyable
and EA can go back to making couch potato sports games for teens and under.
This is a great way to get fit, and comes with everything you need to use it. I thought it was great value for money when you see what you get with it. It is very motivational.
When I first started playing the game, I did find it hard to do the exercises. I learned a week later that you can customize it to your desire. Everything went really well. I really enjoyed the workout. Lost a bit of kilos and hopefully more. Recommended for all ages and different kinds of fitness level. Try the 30-day challenge and you will see results.
This game is very good,i have been doing a 30 day challenge and have muscles I didnt know I had.It is also good because you can do training exercises with sports such as basketball, tennis, volleyball etc
Great for people like me who work odd hours and just can't get to a gym.
Service and delivery excellent.
Thanks Mighty Ape
It must be good because I find myself swearing at the personal trainer!! Sometimes the screen doesn't recognise what you are doing and you have to repeat an action which is kind of annoying but other than that it's a good workout.
This game comes with some equipment (very useful) and awesome training schedules. You can tailor it to your goals and it has the option to keep track of your growth. I love this game and at any price below $80 its a bargain…I'm so glad mighty ape for recommending this with one of my other purchases…(lost a bit of weight playing tennis and training and its only been 3 days, not many games can claim that).
Great game it pushes you further than wii fit does
Good all round game
Really been enjoying this product.
Great selection of activities. You can structure your own program or use the
30-day challenge to do it for you based on some criteria you supply. Varied
program either way and definitely gets you sweating.
I have only just sorted out how to use all the workouts! but it seems as though it will be good.( I have only had the workout for a few days) My one gripe is that it is made for right handers and there does not appear to be a way to change this to a left handed way but I am glad I bought it.
This is great, I have been using Wii Fit for a while now but this game is much better for what it is – an exercise program. This game is not fun, but boy am I loving the workout!
As a big fatty I really enjoyed the set up and intro.
The hardest workout lasted about half an hour and although i broke a sweat I was still able to breath and walk afterwards.
The award stuff and daily journals show you the progress and it really helps.
If you think your too chunky for the gym try this first.
Its pretty cool.
I am really impressed with this website!! We just got a new wii and being able to purchase games etc at reduced price and free delivery is awesome as we live in a small town and no shops here sell wii accessories so this saves us a trip out of town!!! keep up the great service mighty ape :-)
i really enjoy this fitness programme. it has plenty of variety to keep you interested and motivated. workouts are set to your ability and can be increased as you get fitter. only down side is there are lots of lunges, and i must do them wrong because i get really sore knees.
