Description

From the critically acclaimed director, Hideo Kojima, a new 3D experience re-imagined from one of the most popular Metal Gear Solid titles from the past, comes Metal Gear Solid 3D Snake Eater. In the aftermath of the Second World War, the world was torn in two between East and West. It was the beginning of a new era- the Cold War.

October 16, 1962. The President of the United States received word that the Soviet Union had deployed nuclear missiles in Cuba. The world trembled in fear as the prospect of nuclear war loomed ever closer. After days of tense negotiations, the Soviets finally agreed on the 28th to withdraw their missiles from Cuban soil. With the resolution of this incident, later to be known as the Cuban Missile Crisis, it seemed that humanity had survived yet another threat to its existence.

However, there was a secret condition in the deal that put an end to the crisis. Nokolai Stepanovich Sokolov, a Soviet scientist who had defected to the West, was to be sent back to the Soviet Union. The U.S. government agreed to this stipulation, and returned Sokolov back to his native land. Little did they know that Sokolov was to be the designer of a nightmarish weapon. Now, with Sokolov back in their hands, the Soviets are ready to resume its development. If this weapon is completed, it will mark the beginning of a new age of fear.

August 1964. Realizing at last the urgency of the situation, the CIA forms a plan to recapture Sokolov. They dispatch the covert FOX unit to Sokolov’s research facility, located to the south of the great Soviet fortress of Groznyj Grad. Led by former SAS member Major Zero, FOX is a next-generation special-forces unit that operates both as a specialized combat group and as a covert intelligence outfit. The FOX unit’s modus operandi is to send a single agent, backed by radio support from afar, into enemy territory to carry out solo sneaking missions.

Features:

  • Experience an all-new re-interpretation of Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, previously released on PlayStation 2 with over 4 million copies sold, in 3D for the first time ever.
  • Auto-stereoscopic 3D viewing capability that endeavors to create a rich jungle world with natural depth in settings of trees, rock/stone, water and more.
  • ‘Photo Camo’ system utilizing the built-in camera technology of the hardware bringing customized stealth and camouflage options to the player. By snapping a photo in the real world, players will be able to use the same image as a camouflage pattern applied to Snake’s uniform within the game.
  • Utilising the Gyro Sensor, players will become one with Snake through specialized tilt mechanics throughout the game design. As Snake climbs trees, or traverses bridges and other environmental obstacles, players will be in danger of falling based on the balancing of the system.
  • An intuitive menu utilizes the touch screen for quick and easy equipping of items and weapons.

5 stars "A classic gets (another) re-release."

One of, if not the best in an excellent series. The port stays faithful to the original as released on the Playstation 2, but retains the vastly improved camera controls from the Subsistence re-release. Was disappointed to see that nothing (beyond the aforementioned camera) is included from Subsistence as well as the hidden minigame “Guy Savage” and “Snake vs. Monkey” both being omitted (though the latter's omission is understandable due to it using elements from Ape Escape – a Sony owned franchise).

However, this is all nitpicking, as the game is pure quality through and through and a definite “must-buy” for stealth-action fans and anyone who appreciated Kojima's previous work.

5 stars "A MUST BUY for any serious 3DS Gamer"

I will be getting this day one of release and have spent literally 2 hours playing the tiny demo released on the estore a few weeks ago. It took me about 1 hour to become completely comfortable with the controls ( Im using the Circle Pad Pro which is flippen awesome, especially for Resident Evil revelations which I highly recommend ) and while aiming was touchy at first, it became much more enjoyable after sinking 1 hour into it to adjust to the controls. The 3d effect is superb and anyone trashing the graphics can go get the HD version and be tethered to the house/couch. I can vouch for the graphics in this iteration as being better than the PS2 copy I clocked 7 years ago. Dont be an idiot and miss out on this because some people rant on about the HD version being better. Its not, it different and who gives a rats about MGS2 or peace walker for PSP- Not me, MGS3 is the best and always will be. Sorry Kojima but the best has come and gone.

I repeat I Will be getting this Day one. Money very well spent based on my time with the short but fantastic Demo.

4 stars "'Solid' translation of a classic"

This is a great port of arguably the best Metal Gear game so far, and while it is not perfect by any means it gives gamers a chance to experience a true classic on the go.
I thoroughly recommend using a circle pad pro with this title, it makes controlling the camera much more intuitive. The circle pad pro is NOT a requirement.
The 3D effect works quite well, and even enhances the game to a degree, making it easier to judge your proximity to enemies. Graphically the game looks superb, only let down by a less than consistent frame rate.
It is hard to recommend this game if you own a PS3 or X360 – the Metal Gear HD collection on those platforms provide far better value for money. However if you absolutely must have Metal Gear in portable form, then this is the way to go.

4 stars "Going to be great!"

I downloaded the demo for this the othernight and i gotta say it's a great little demo fun but frustrating, without the circle pad your using abxy to move the camera around and it just doesn't feel right.

However with a circle pad this game will be really enjoyable looks stunning in 3d and without the 3d on looks good to
