Played out live to a worldwide television audience in 1972 during the Munich Olympics, the kidnapping and subsequent massacre of 11 Israeli team members by an extremist Palestinian group known as Black September, was only the start of a story that would continue for years. Steven Spielberg's tense political thriller, Munich – inspired by those real events – tells the story of the act of revenge that followed and examines the toll it takes, not only on those who are tracked down and killed, but also on the men who carry out the executions – most especially the group’s leader, Avner (Eric Bana).
