Metal Gear Solid HD Collection reviews

If you’re a fan of the Metal Gear Solid franchise just stop reading this and buy it now, this is an absolute must have for any true fan of the series.

Having played through the games multiple times, I’ve found the games remain as gripping and engaging as ever. If however you want a more logical reason to buy this, then it’s simply value for money. As well as MGS2, MGS3 and Peace Walker you get a tonne of VR (Virtual Reality) side missions as well as over 130 trophies to earn.

Given that to complete the campaign of any one of these games takes about 10–20 hours on average, watching all cutscenes and codec conversations. Add in completing all the extra missions, unlocking trophies and playing each game multiple times (once is never enough) and you’re looking at over a hundred hours of entertainment. In simple dollar terms that’s less than a dollar for an hour’s enterta­inment. Given that a trip to the movies these days costs about 10–20 dollars for one to two hours of entertainment, this game is clearly fantastic value for money.

At the end of the day you’re buying a fantastic series and getting three games for the price of one, simply put with this game you can’t lose.

Loving this game heaps. Brings back fond memories of being back at school and the days of hiring games from video shops. :)

Three games on one disc, who could complain with that--

Looks great in HD, flow of the game is smooth. Trophy compatibility each holding a platinum of their own. Bonus original Metal Gear Solid 1 & 2 game (came across this is the main menu when playing Snake Eater)

Avid fans of the Metal Gear Solid series should consider…no wait, don't consider, just buy it. :)

MGS3 is as amazing as ever. You play as legendary Big Boss before he has ascended the ranks. Great stealth gaming, survive in the wilderness, fight great bosses, explore, original camo concept very cool to play with. The HD makes everything a lot smoother and can make things like finding those damn Kerotan frogs so much easier. Comes with original Metal Gear, and Metal Gear 2, great nostalgia, or just cool little arcade games if they're new to you. Boss and monkey catching modes have been removed which is a shame. The one cheat code has been removed, but this is hardly a complaint. Trophies are fun and have a bit of variety, and the difference in boss battles makes it more rewarding and the platinum isn't too hard and waaaay more fun to get than most games. The camo trophy is glitched so when you start a new game choose ‘I like MGS3!’, you will thank me.

MGS Peacewalker for me was a game I missed by not owning a PSP so it was interesting to finally get that chance. It is NOT traditional MGS action. A lot of the game is based on managing your base and completing ranked missions, which I found took away from the fun of exploring. Stealth is pretty much reduced to a crouch walk. There are multiple control schemes to match play styles of other titles in the series. There are some online trophies that are only attainable through online play, in a community which is dead unless you can convince some others to play. The graphics look quite smooth but it is still pretty easy to miss some items.

Haven't had much of a chance to play MGS2 HD, sorry. But it is a big game, though skating has apparently been removed, take that as positive or negative. A lot more akin to Metal Gear Solid but with a few little extra features. Very complicated storyline, but not really crucial to gameplay.

An absolutely amazing trio of games on one HD Blu–Ray… Surprisingly enough, the graphics have actually made a reasonable improvement over their original platforms as well, and with trophy support—what more could you want…-

If you haven't played Metal Gear yet and are thinking about it, stop hesitating and buy this. In my books it's one of the most captivating, moving and artistic series' ever made, Hideo Kojima has created nothing short of a masterpiece and it deserves to be appreciated, again and again.

Metal Gear Solid HD collection is one of the best titles available today. Three excellent games in beautiful HD, with full trophy support and online play. Essential for Metal Gear fans and the perfect launching point for new players. Highly recommended to all.

Big fan of the MGS series so this is what ive needed to fill that gap that was missing from my colection!

These games are amazing. The HD remake was done well and the games are amazing! Slightly sad the MGS collection was removed from Mightyape as it had every single game instead of just 3 but for the price this is a great pickup.

So happy with this purchase. The moment I heard the music I had a blast from the past. These games are brilliant.

As a fan of the Metal Gear series, it is awesome to relive my childhood memories through the power of the PS3 system. Great purchase, highly recommend

Well worth your money if you a a fan of the series.

Items like these should be kept in the treasure box. You can see the changes that the game has gone through from the very start and starters can catch up easily on the story. All this for in one HD and for a very small price.

Metal Gear Solid hd collection is a must have for any gamer i had never played the games until i played this and now i cant leave my playstation. I highly recommend this if you dont have it buy it you wont regret it

A must for any MGS fan!

Metal gear Solid HD is a perfect addition to any fans collection and also a good way for new comers to play the old games. the HD textures are a huge improvement over the original graphics and the save system is a lot easier to use, Peace walker is a definite improvement over the PSP version the co-op play for the campaign is a good addition to his game.

I never played the MG series growing up, being to young. However I was always hearing internet buzz so I decided to join in a few months ago. Plz note, this doesn't include MG1, so you have to buy it of the PS store for around 10 dollars.

Play it like everyone else did with the release dates, so MGS1, MGS2, MGS3, MGs4, Peace walker.

Hard to adjust from being a cod addict, but its got so much depth, codec conversations, and yeah…cut scenes.

Do yourself a favor and pick up MGS4 to complete your collection, and prep yourself for MGSV later this year.

Buy this, with Metal Gear Solid 4 and Metal Gear Solid of the PSN and you will enjoy the best game series of all time. SNAKE IS THE MAN

Now my dreams of playing the older MGS have come alive, thank you so much!

At first I was hesitant to buy, but I am so glad that I did.

As good as the games on this collection are, not including the original game that started it all makes this set feel incomplete. That would be like excluding a film from a trilogy collection because one of them is in black and white. Surely MGS1 could have been included as “bonus material” if they didn't wan't to sully the glorious name of HD.

I still remember when I first got my ps2 and I got Metal gear solid 2 with it, I fell in love with it that day and have clocked it I don't know how many times and as soon as MGS3 came out I got that too and did the exact same thing with it. But then I stopped playing them some years later, I got a ps3 and it was getting longer and longer between play-throughs and I was always waiting and hoping that some day they would remake them. Finally it has happened these games are just as fantastic as I remember them as I played them with the look of the 12 year old me that first got his hands on these gems of games. Yes people complain that there is too much dialog in the games and I'm not going to lie there is a lot of it, but if you follow the game and start to understand the story line and each character in the game you will see that all of it is needed to try and get you to understand everything. There is just so much going on in each game it took me years of playing and I was still learning new things. I very highly recommend this for anyone and if you are already a fan what the hell are you waiting for

A nice way to spend time whilst waiting on that MGS4 Trophy patch! Despite their age, with a simple HD overhaul, the graphics are still looking pretty good and of course the actual game-play is as great as it ever was. It's just such a shame they did Peace Walker instead of Twin Snakes.

I bought this collection specifically for the mgs3 version with the 2 original games built in, but the other games are excellent aswell. Peace walker alone has much more game content than I expected from a psp title and the layout and menus are some of the best I have seen from an HD collection. Well worth the purchase.

I was so disappointed when I found out that my PS3 couldn't play my MGS games. Then when I heard this game I thought I must get it and for a great value. For the price of usually 1 game you get 5 Metal Gear games. The games sure haven't aged well with the better controls of Metal Gear Solid 4 but Peace Walker has most of MGS4 controls which makes it easier to play

This new hd collection is great .going back through these 3 epic games in hd gives the gameplay a whole other dimension . Also havig newly added trophies is great to check your stealth skills.

They took the best ps2 games and made them better. One of the best buys ive made well impressed

Just pure epic right here, best remakes yet. Unfortunately, there are a couple of glitches on the PAL version, with MGS3 and MGS2. The ones on 3 don't allow for two easy trophies to be unlocked and the one one 2 wont allow you to advance past disarming the bomb. Hope there is a patch or something soon. Other then that it is amazing, best storyline ever, with references to Godzilla, plus it is rather humorous also.

To me this is far the best release for the saga yet, because metal gear has one of the best on going story lines from Metal Gear solid 3,Metal Gear Peace Walker, Metal Gear Portable OPS, Metal Gear Solid 1/Twin Snakes, Metal Gear 2, Metal Gear 4 Guns of the Patriots… There could be more attracted to this series but in the ps2 versions the graphics was still amazing and now since they upscaled the game to HD it will be 10× better Good story good characters and bonus of getting all substance's aswell plus a psp game to follow after MGS3 so it all connects my recommendations is to get this game, Also lacking is that they did not put MGS1 on it aswell. BUY IT!!

Id just like to add that the versions of the game are substance and subsistance so you get all there bonuses as well INCLUDING metal gear and metal gear 2 solid snake.
