At just 23 years old, San Francisco garage-rocker Ty Segall is on his fifth LP (not counting more than a dozen releases with Sic Alps and his four other bands) Goodbye Bread is Ty’s first full-length for the Drag City label.
Formerly known for fast, blown-out garage punk, the San Francisco native here takes his usual punky, fuzz-laden backdrop and mellows it out, assuming the role of a Bob Dylan/Neil Young–inspired songwriter instead with 10 tracks of simple distorted riffs, thoughtful lyrics, echoing falsetto flecks and psyched-out guitar solos – and all 10 tracks are some of his best to date.
