I have been a Firefly fan ever since I recorded the TV series that was played in the ‘popular’ time slot of after 10:30pm. Nice one TVNZ! The series, a combination of space opera and western, was a flop in the US where it was played late at night and out of order. But once the DVD’s were released it went viral and even spawned a feature movie, “Serenity”. Unheard of for a failed TV series.
Serenity is a very different, yet practical, design compared to other Sci-Fi ships. Being a keen scale modeller I was in awe of the quality and finish of the maquette. (I wish my models were as well finished) Quantum Mechanix capture the ship very well and the separate little shuttles are a nice touch. There are lots of minute details and a complex paint job to admire.
The day my Serenity was dropped off by the courier, I received an email from a business acquaintance who had also spotted it on Mighty Ape and thought he should let me know. I told him that he was a bit slow as mine had turned up that day. A few questions were asked and he then placed an order for his own Serenity. He is also very pleased.
To summarise the maquette, in Firefly lingo, “It is very shiny” and a great addition to the 'verse.
