This book is presented in an interesting way that is fairly atypical for music books. The first half of the book documents to some detail the story behind each song, which is actually quite nice particularly if you are a true blooded kiwi who grew up on this music. The second half contains the actual music and lyrics.
The songs themselves are ranged in difficulty, however the most tricky key signatures are transposed to easy chords at the end of each song chapter. The easier chords are displayed on top of a lyrics sheet which makes sing along all that much easier. Pianists of all levels above absolute beginner will find music in here that they can play with confidence.
There are some mistakes in the score, however nothing fundamental. In a few places the keys above each bar are missing but your average pianist should be able to figure out what the appropriate key is by reading the music (not an issue if you are following the score to the letter).
The story with each song does help capture the essence behind the music which, if translated accordingly, adds to the legitimate sound of the music.
In all, a very enjoyable book of music, and one I recommend – songs are written to reflect accurately the sound we are all familiar with.
