After reading a bunch of reviews, I settled on the Cherry MX Brown switches that are in the Das Silent keyboard.
After receiving the keyboard it definitely takes a few days to get used to but I can say that key-presses are far more consistent on the Das compared to my old rubber-dome keyboards. It's also built extremely well and feels very solid.
After a week or so using this keyboard, I feel that it's more fun to use (if you can even call typing fun). It's a more enjoyable experience doing a lot of writing on the Das compared to any other standard keyboard.
If you're a typist and concerned about noise then the silent model is the one to get. However, be warned that once you try a mechanical keyboard you won't want to go back. Most likely you'll also be tempted to increase your keyboard collection in the future to try the different switches.
Brought the Model S Ultimate Keyboard a few months ago.
Was a little worried about having no “letters” on the keys, but as being able to touch type from school it has proven its worth.
This keyboard has made my typing skills more GOSU
Great feel when pressing keys and good clicky noise that can annoying everyone in the flat if your typing away or playing some SC2. Good retro looking keyboard.
Only concern is playing FPS, should maybe get the the coloured key set so the WASD keys are easier to find, but this has only been a complaint from friends using the das keyboard.
Does someone know where to get the WASD kit (with the key remover) aside from Aussie-
If you can touch type try find the Model S Ultimate Keyboard
But the professional is the one if you cannot touch type and want something other than “razor” keyboards.
I bought this for my macbook as its mac compatible with replaceable key caps
available (the nice people at MM are getting the mac caps in for me). On the
downside the f keys aren't mac functions but as a result of that you get f5 and
page keys that the macbook doesn't. The keyboard has a solid feel with positive
switch action and a clear click (not silent). It reminds me of the early
terminal / IBM keyboards of the 80's.
It may not suit those with a “touch screen” preference but it's great if
you like something with a rugged feel to it.
Rugged enough that you can remove the caps and clean it properly but not rugged
enough to put in the dishwasher :)
