Looks Stunning on Blu Ray… The Colours come to live and the detail looks incredible
Its such a pity that this film wasnt the “Toy Selling” success that other pixar films are because i think that this is the most mature storytelling i have ever seen from Pixar…
The Opening to the film gets me everytime
‘Up’ is yet another excellent disney/pixar production … Awesome family entertainment and humour from start to finish and a must for all dvd collections .. You gotta see this :)
Wall-E was one of my favorite films from 2008 so I was very interested to see Pixar's ‘Up’. Up is a beautiful film on Blu-ray, the colours are vibrant and the animation is visually exciting. The story is simple but good. Pixar have so much originality it makes Hollywood look stupid (Stop remaking 80's films!). Up takes the most random characters and weirdest ideas and creates some of the best cinematic experiences you'll see all year.
Edward Anser plays the voice of Carl Fredricksen, a grumpy old man living in
his home in the city surrounded by towering construction sites. Carl is forced
to give up his home and move into a retirement village but before they can take
him away he releases a million balloons tied down to the fire place. The
balloons rip the house from its foundations lifting the house up in to the
air.
As a child, Carl meets Ellie. They each share a strong passion for adventure and
dream of traveling to South America in the footsteps of famous adventurer
Charles Muntz (voice by Christopher Plummer). As they grow up they eventually
marry and move in to a home together. Carl and Ellie try saving money in the
hope of one day moving to the South America and settling their home above a
waterfall overlooking a fantastic jungle. However life's problems force Carl
and Ellie to continuously spend their savings (a depressing issue most people
can relate to). By the time Carl and Ellie are too old for venturing about
globe, the reality of their childhood dream becomes no more than a forgotten
memory.
The day before Carl releases the balloons, Carl gets a knock at the door. It's a Boy Scout called Russell. Russell needs his final badge for assisting the elderly. Carl resists Russell's assistance but Russell persists. Carl tells Russell he can assist him in hunting a mythical bird and sends Russell off to find it. Unbeknown to Carl, Russell returns believing he has found the bird under Carl's porch and manages to climb aboard just after Carl has taken flight in his flying house balloon/ contraption thing. Carl and Russell go on an amazing journey to fulfill Ellie's dream of moving their home to South America. Carl and Russell encounter a number of odd and interesting characters on their journey – good and evil. When they unexpectedly encounter an endangered creature Carl and Russell must try and save it from extinction while also trying to navigate Carl's home through the jungle before the balloons deflate.
The animation is absolutely stunning. Like Wall-E, Up is a truly amazing spectacle. Pixar are the leaders in film animation by along shot. Nothing can compare to the quality of visual and story telling abilities. There are so many emotions throughout the film – sorrow, excitement, fear and laughter are just a few. Up is probably Pixar's most mature film to date but still perfect for children under parental guidance.
Up is the perfect addition to any movie collection, young or old.
