Description

The follow-up to Batman Begins, The Dark Knight reunites director Christopher Nolan and star Christian Bale, who reprises the role of Batman/Bruce Wayne in his continuing war on crime.

With the help of Lt. Jim Gordon and District Attorney Harvey Dent, Batman sets out to destroy organized crime in Gotham for good. The triumvirate proves effective, but soon find themselves prey to a rising criminal mastermind known as The Joker, who thrusts Gotham into anarchy and forces Batman closer to crossing the fine line between hero and vigilante.

Heath Ledger stars as archvillain The Joker, and Aaron Eckhart plays Dent. Maggie Gyllenhaal joins the cast as Rachel Dawes. Returning from Batman Begins are Gary Oldman as Gordon, Michael Caine as Alfred and Morgan Freeman as Lucius Fox.

5 stars "Why so serious?"

I have to admit, I was skeptical. After so much hype, it seemed impossible that the movie would be able to live up to the excitement. Fortunately, however, it did – and then some. Heath Ledger's performance as the Joker really makes the whole thing; we've seen some crazy villains before, but seldom have I been so convinced of one's insanity. You honestly forget there's an ordinary human being underneath all the makeup – and the attention to detail is amazing. Darker, grittier and much more compelling than the earlier Batman films (with the exception of Batman Begins, of course) this is Batman as it should be.

You want my opinion? If you only see one Batman film, make it this one.

5 stars "See, I'm a man of simple tastes. I like dynamite, and gunpowder"

First off, let's get this straight for all those who would buy it for their children: this movie wholly earned its M rating!! It is most assuredly not for the young 'uns!

This is a film that belongs in pride of place in any self respecting DVD collection, heck in this case; even Blu-Ray, as it is one of the few films that merits the purchase either way! Personally, I have this on Blu-Ray and the quality is notably better!

As my review title suggests (a direct quote from The Joker) I enjoy movies like this based as much on the special effects budget as the acting… however, you will be hard pressed to discern which wins out in this case as both the acting and the special effects are truly amazing! I fear that this film is so dark that it added significantly to Heath Ledgers demise, this is plainly evident when we see the darkness of his role as The Joker. I was doubtful of him playing The Joker, as the majority of his roles have been much lighter, however in this case his performance is amazing and well deserving of whatever posthumous awards he should (hopefully in my opinion) receive.

The same can also be said of our Batman character (Christian Bale) – perfectly acted. The chemistry between Ledger and Bale is immense in every scene where they are together; they bounce off each other as though they literally are Batman and The Joker, which to my mind is the highest compliment I can give, because there is nothing of the actor in any of the scenes, purely the characters which they portray!

A darker and edgier movie than even Batman Begins, this brings home to me exactly what the Batman franchise is all about, and it is most definitely a future classic! Definitely one for the collection, if you rent it… you'll end up buying it anyway, so save yourself a few dollars (in the long run) and pick up your copy to keep today!

5 stars "absolutely brilliant"

The Dark Knight, what else to say except brilliant? Heath Ledger's final film has the biggest impact. Ledger plays the Joker, an iconic villain of Batman (Christian Bale), a terrorist for hire who would like nothing more than total destruction of Gotham City.

Ledger's performance of The Joker is Oscar worthy, as is Aaron Eckhart's portrayal of Harvey “Two-Face” Dent.

Chris Nolan's “Batman Begins” was good, but The Dark Knight far surpasses that, making it one of the best films ever made, and maybe the best sequel in th ehistory of sequels.

5 stars "The hype was right.. for once!"

I bought this movie without having seen it, and I don't regret it at all! So many people were saying how it was Heath's best performance and so on and I just figured people were being nice due to his untimely end, But, It really is! Personally I wouldn't of thought he would be good at this kind of role as it's nothing like anything else I've ever seen of his, But having seen it now I can't imagine anyone else in the role.

Some of the jokers lines just cracked me up, I'm not sure if they were suppose to but I'm a little twisted. Great movie, well worth the purchase.

5 stars "The Best Joker Ever"

After all the hype of hearing about this movie, it seemed that it would break records and be the best batman film ever. Heath Ledger's performance as the Joker can not be topped he was better then Jack Nicholson. He made the role of the Joker his own and you never really see any actor have that much commitment to a role like the Joker. Much Darker then Tim Burtons Batman Movies but with a great story behind the movie it rocks as this one has.

I give this movie 10 out of 10 just for it's crazy awesomeness
