Description

They aim to misbehave…

Serenity is the feature-length adaptation of Joss Whedon’s cult TV show, Firefly, about a band of galactic outcasts 500 years in the future.

The story centers on Captain Malcolm “Mal” Reynolds (Nathan Fillion), a hardened veteran (on the losing side) of a galactic civil war, who now ekes out a living pulling off small crimes and transport-for-hire aboard his ship, Serenity. He leads a small, eclectic crew who are the closest thing he has left to family - squabbling, insubordinate and undyingly loyal.

When Mal takes on two new passengers - a young doctor and his unstable telepathic sister - he gets much more than he bargained for. The pair are fugitives from the coalition dominating the universe who will stop at nothing to reclaim the girl.

The crew that was once used to skimming the outskirts of the galaxy unnoticed find themselves caught between the unstoppable military force of the Universal Alliance and the horrific cannibalistic fury of the Reavers, savages who roam the very edge of space.

Hunted by vastly different enemies, they begin to discover the greatest danger to them may be on board Serenity herself.

5 stars "Brilliant!!"

My humble opinion: This is one of the best SciFi movies ever made! I was a loyal fan of the TV series “FireFly” … and this DVD is a fitting tribute to Joss Whedon's masterpiece. The movie satisfyingly ties up many loose ends that were left unanswered in the TV series. I always felt that the character of River Tam was very undeveloped in the TV series (because they were hoping for further seasons of Firefly being made I suppose). Anyway, Serenity certainly delivers on that score, River is finally revealed to be something very special indeed.

Great story, emotionally involving, great character development, action, special effects (not overdone either). The movie is a great adventure from start to end.

5 stars from me.

5 stars "Great tie up of a series that should have lasted longer. "

I wish there had been many more seasons of this show it was fantastic but this movie manages to tie up some of cliffhangers left from the series and has a great action story to tie things together.

2 stars "Not quite true to Firefly"

I really enjoyed the firefly series. However in the movie I felt they ruined the link to it in a few points.

For example in the series for most of it Simon has no idea what the academy did to River. Almost right at the start of the movie it shows Simon being told exactly what happened to her. This dosn't make sence to me since Simon spent over half the series trying to find out what they did to her

Also near the end of the series Simon was growing close to the crew. In the movie it's almost like that bond never happened.

Another thing – they got rid of the yellow quad bike! the one they used as on planet transportation. Sure it dose get upgraded to a SciFi transport but in the series I just got so used to it, it was really weird without it

These things ruined the movie for me. If I watch a great series and theres a movie (or movies) baised on it the movie has to be completly true to the series otherwise I cant watch it.

5 stars "The follow on from Firefly."

If you loved the movie Serenity then you have to get the Firefly collection. It is a great buy. It gives you all the background of the crew on Serenity and who they are and why they do what they do. I just wish there was a whole other season.

Happy viewing
