“Like any fan of the “Stargate” series, I took a shine to “Sanctuary” because of Amanda Tapping’s involvement. I missed the original web series, but you don’t need that to get into the show. In fact, the first handful of episodes rehash the webisodes…I have a lot of respect for what the filmmakers are doing with “Sanctuary” in terms of taking a new step to the future of television. The use of virtual sets (to a lesser degree than the original web series, but definitely utilized quite often for the show) and the rich character history is particularly compelling…” 7mpictures.com
“…A little Torchwood, a little Dark Angel, a little X-Files, there's a lot of good stuff in the mix. Trouble is, as I watched the show, everything I saw reminded me of some other show, and where an homage is nice, these guys really need to find a niche and make it their own. If you like your scifi on the fantasy side, check this out. It's also a good pick if you're simply interested in the future of TV production because this is where we're heading, especially with genre shows such as this.” dvdverdict.com
“…The TV series is initially paced incredibly slowly; without the perspective afforded by the web it is admittedly difficult to gain momentum. If you manage to stick with it you will be rewarded with a well constructed, character driven series…this is a solid piece of science fiction and has a lot of potential going forward.” hometheaterinfo.com
The creator of the series, Damian Kindler has an admirable amount of experience particularly with television Sci-Fi. He is an accomplished script writer with series such as ‘Stargate SG-1’, Stargate: Atlantis’, and ‘Earth: Final Conflict among his credits. There are a few unusual and notable aspects about this series that put its origins and continued production into category of unique. Instead of the typical pilot this series began as a string of webcasts. It is also one of the most environmentally aware shows around taking ‘green’ to another level. The episodes are recorded directly to hard drive storage requiring no film or other disposable media. The sets are entirely virtually created with almost all principle photography done in front of a green screen.
If you liked the fast talking technogeek Colonel Carter from SG1, you'll be
pleasantly surprised with the Queens English Amanda Tapping speaks effortlessly,
considering her natural Canadian accent. In one episode Dr Magnus sounds more
from Hackney rather than London.
This series began life on the internet as webisodes. Quite a few appearances
appear from the Stargate clan.
Overall its a rivetting story with several subplots and a couple of backstories
as we see Dr Magnus in Victorian times with the likes of John Druitt (Jack the
Ripper), Nikola Tesla (Vampire), and Dr Watts (Sherlock Holmes).
Sanctuary For All is the motto where any ‘monster’ can be invited to live
out their lives as they are in various habitats on the estate.
But there will always be factions that fight the do-gooders. A black-ops unit
tries to capture ‘monsters’ for their own fiendish plans.
Its a pleasant surprise to find an action adventure of paranormal means.
I loved it Sanctuary is one of the best tv progammes I know of and I have recommended it to all my friends I would give it 10 stars if I could
I like all things that include Amanda Tapping but this show has really got me going. It's got hot women and scary monsters and a story that will get you hooked.
It's a shame that Sanctuary didn't feature on New Zealand television, because if you didn't know about it, you are simply going to miss out. Sanctuary is an amazing program. It focuses on the lives of a team of specialists in the abnormal world. Takes them on 12 wierd and fun episodes, packed with humor, action, and Amanda Tapping! The show brings true to its main idea “a sanctuary for all” definitely worth a watch.
A good sci fi/fantasy cross-over series. It feels similar to Dr Who in the cinematography. Easy to watch and the storyline is good. I can't wait to get the next season.
