Description

Average teenager Dave Lizewski (Aaron Johnson) decides to take his obsession with comic books as inspiration to become a real-life superhero. As any good superhero would, he chooses a new name, Kick-Ass, assembles a suit and mask to wear, and gets to work fighting crime. There’s only one problem - Kick-Ass has absolutely no superpowers.

His life is forever changed as he inspires a sub-culture of copy cats, meets up with a pair of crazed vigilantes - an eleven year old sword-wielding dynamo, Hit Girl (Chloë Moretz), and her father Big Daddy (Nicolas Cage) - and forges a friendship with another fledging superhero, Red Mist (Chris Mintz-Plasse). But thanks to the scheming of a local mob boss Frank D’Amico (Mark Strong), that new alliance will be put to the test.

5 stars "A hilarious and action packed movie"

This is a great film, prehaps not for the family but im pretty sure everyone will get a good laugh out of it. Its a film that you think you know whats going to happen but you don't, its an action, comedy and crime all rolled into one. Move over spiderman, the real superhero with no real powers is in town. Kick-Ass!

5 stars "Fantastic"

This is by far the best movie I have seen this year, it combines an excellent plot and extremely humorous dialogue with superbly choreographed action sequences to create a film that more than delivers what it says on the box.

5 stars "One of the best super hero movies ever"

The superhero genre has exploded ever since Spiderman hit the screen in 2002, however none have fully captured the consequences for choosing to become a superhero; until Kick Ass, that is.

With a similar tone to Fight Club and cues taken from Tarantino, Kick Ass is a playful but gritty movie at the same time. It manages to balance comedy and drama perfectly, overly colourful yet grim at the same time. The less said the better as the story is a great ride – very close to the source material. The R18 rating means they can tackle controversial subject matter and violence that M rated superhero movies cannot. Quite a refreshing change.

The performances are great, Nicolas Cage channels his inner Adam West and Aaron Johnson is a perfectly normal teenager and an apt narrator. Mark Strong and Chloe Moretz are definite highlights as well. The soundtrack is pitch perfect and a fantastic accompaniment.

Bottom line: Kick-Ass is a brilliant, fun and subtly intelligent film that belongs on anyone's DVD shelf to be re-watched again and again.
