Description

Psychedelic music’s acid-inspired vibe began in the ‘60s and, with literary proponents such as William Burroughs and Jack Kerouac and academics such as Timothy Leary and Aldous Huxley extolling the virtues of chemically induced ‘consciousness expansion’, the music scene on both sides of the Atlantic quickly ‘plugged in’ and tapped into a new source of creativity. New recording techniques and effects, exotic instrumentation, the heavy use of keyboards, extended jams, complex song structures, key and time signature changes and esoteric lyrics all came together to produce the out of sight sounds of psychedelia.

Granny Takes A Trip brings you a mixed bag of rare, freaky weirdness including the original ‘Space Oddity’ by David Bowie, two early live tracks from Pink Floyd, The Byrds hypnotic ‘Eight Miles High’, a blistering free-form Jimi Hendrix Experience, the very trippy Soft Machine, Cream as frolicking monks and the “daring and fluid creativity” of Captain Beefheart. Wow.

David Bowie:
Space Oddity
Pink Floyd: Interstellar Overdrive/A Saucerful Of Secrets
The Crazy World Of Arthur Brown: Fire
The Byrds: Eight Miles High
Jefferson Airplane: White Rabbit
Soft Machine: We Know What You Mean
The Greatful Dead: Sugar Magnolia
Dr. John: The Night Tripper Mardi Gras Day
Julie Driscoll, Brian Auger’s Trinity: This Wheel’s On Fire
The Steve Miller Band: Space Cowboy
Captain Beefheart: Upon The My Oh My
Jimi Hendrix Experience: Sunshine Of Your Love
Cream: I Feel Free

3 stars "Radical!"

When I bought this dvd I was disappointed to find that it was only music videos from a few artists, however the music is amazing and the videos are very 70s'/80s' which is awesome!
