I stubbornly refused to believe friends who told me this was an awesome concept, perfectly excecuted. Who knew a future-set Western Sci-fi series could be this entertaining ? Character based, outstanding performances all 'round, funny as, never a boring shot or set-up. My only suggestion (apart from BUY IT TODAY) is get the movie Serenity too – and watch the series FIRST…

What can I say about Firefly that hasn't already been said. An interesting mix of Sci-fi and Western with a dash of comedy and a lot of drama.

The show follows the adventures of Captain Mal Renolds and his Spaceship ‘Serenity’ as they generally try to eke out a living by doing any and all jobs they can while trying to stay as far away from the Alliance as possible. They start out like this because Mal fought against them in a war but find this very important when they end up picking up two fugitives. One of the fugitives has many secrets which are slowly revealed…

I was hooked after watching the first five minutes of the first episode. Honestly, I can't really explain just how awesome this show is without at least 5 pages of dull rambling text. Don't ask why it's so awesome, just accept it and buy.

Initially the idea of a ‘western in space’ put me off this show but I have it a chance and discovered that it is easily one of the greatest and most witty Sci Fi shows ever made.

The writing, the dialogue, the characters and the action in this show has successfully set it apart from all the other sci fi shows around

Criminally it was cancelled after only one season.

Fabulous season. Had great stories with lots of action that kept you wanting to watch the next part. Each character fitted in well, each one having their own stories and secrets. The sets were great too. I was sad when it finished. Highly recommend this series and Serenity the movie that followed.

This series is even better than the movie (if at all possable). I absoloutly loved it, and i was completly gutted while watching the last episode cause i knew there was no more to come :-(

Sci-fi Western seems an unlikely genre for any media product but creator Joss Whedon has provided us with a true gem in Firefly (and the movie sequel, Serenity). With true elements from both Science Fiction (such as spaceships) and Westerns (such as cowboys and guns) no one could justify the cutting short of this show. Captain Mal and his crew are a true family and should have graced our screens for far longer than they got the chance to. This DVD is a great buy and I just really wish there was more.

As expected, great series

Probably one of the best series I've ever watched, the cast is amazing and work really well together. It has a feel that this isn't an impossible concept because although the technology may have changed, humanities problems are still the same.

It is a brilliant fusion of the Sci-Fi and Western genres.

If you wish to further this magnificent experience watch the movie serenity.

Definitely buy this it is AMAZING!!!

A group of smugglers are trying to make a living in space doing little illegal activities. Did I mention they have the Alliances most wanted weapon on board in the shape of a teenage girl that the Allaince woulds do nothing to get-

An enjoyable story about a bunch of rogue space travellers – the Serenity movie makes a whole lot more sense now – a good watch all round

Even if your not a sci if fan this series will grab you! The characters are fantastic, funny and complex. It's a well written and well shot series that will leave you wanting more- shame they didn't make any more!

Love this series. We are using it to introduce some of our flatmates to science fiction so they can better understand their boyfriends and appreciate the awesomeness of the genre! Brilliant characters, good humour, good action and effects and an engaging overall story arc.

For anyone who has seen castle or for anyone looking for a good old western with a-bit of a twist this TV series is definitly for you.

While it was sad to have it cut off so soon, every episode is an adventure that will grip you and make you want to see more.

Good storyline with well-developed and developing characters. A bit clunky to start and then it settles with a good ensemble cast who share in the sly humour that comes through unexpectedly.

LOVE this series – plenty of sarcasm and clever story lines! Shame there is no more to come.

Proof that good guys dont always finish last. Malcolm Reynolds and his misfit crew mix space travel with cowboy western styles , living the criminal life on the rim but always trying the “right” thing. While the stories are never too dark and the comedic roles played by most of the crew keep it that way the underlying story has a much deeper meaning at times. Just a shame that Joss Whedon didnt get to make another series…the movie covered off a lot of loose ends but season 2 could've been great.
Oh and …no space noises…as it should be.

Discovered this after watching the movie ‘Serenity’.
A very well written series with a great cast.
Well worth the cost.

Years ago I saw one episode and have been on the look out for it since, at a good price. Well no worries about the price here, and after the DVD I felt I had got my moneys worth. And I still have three more DVDs to go.

Had heard about the cult following this series has and can now see why. This is an absolutely brilliant show, should not have been canned.

It's a crazy mix of western, sci-f, thriller, action, comedy, and romance. We're liking it quite a lot.

A diverse group of people, just trying to survive after the universal war. It has adventure, comedy, romance (of sorts), it's just a fun series to watch about a great group of characters. Not impressed it was cancelled, must buy the movie – Serenity.

This like alot of great shows was cancelled after one series, later became a cult-classic and was eventually green-lighted for a full-length hollywood movie Serenity given its rise in popularity.
Anyway the show consists of Captain Mal Reynalds and his oddball crew flying in a old almost wreck of a ship called Serenity, a Firefly class spaceship, hence the name of the show. They seek out jobs to both get paid and to buy replacement parts for whatever broke on the ship, essentially this showq is cowboys in space, dangerous jobs, high risk, adventure and pure entertainment.

This was my first order from Mighty Ape. It all went very smoothly and I was very impressed with the service I received. I am sure I will be placing many orders in the future. Thanks Mighty Ape!!

This earlier TV series ‘Firefly’ is a revelation if all you have seen so far is the movie 'Serenity. Production values are movie-quality. The price at NZ$34.99 was literally the best in the world.

Noted more for the movie than the series ‘Firefly’ delves greatly into the history of this eclectic bunch of space cowboys.

Firefly is one of my all time favourite TV shows. It has great, likeable, funny characters. A great story. A fantastic setting (sci-fi/western). And good sound/visual effects to top it off.
All of the special features on the DVDs are really good too. A great addition. It really is a breath of fresh air in a genre filled with cliches, aliens and bad characters.

What was disappointing about this however was the quality of the audio on the DVDs. If the audio quality was better it would be a definite 5 star, but it really is quite bad. Apparently the quality is due to a bad job at changing the format from NTSC (America) to PAL (UK/NZ).

I would suggest buying the Blu-Ray version which will have much better audio/visual quality.

Not what it seems at first glance. This is star-wars and the good the bad and the ugly all rolled into one. It is comedic with Jane being so funny and there is action, romance, suspense, drama….all you could ask for. Nathan Fillion is excellent as the captain of the crew and I think all of the cast was perfectly chosen.

From an excellent title song and pilot episode through to the finale of the series and subsequent movie (Serenity) this series oozes charm and style. Science fiction fans, those with a great sense of humour and some romantic spirit will all find a diamond in the rough. This is all the episodes in one bundle – the only problem: they didn't make enough of them. A must watch.

love my sci-fi and never really got into western type films or tv shows, but combine them and you get Firefly and man what a show it is!!!
love this show and is very enjoyable to watch and the characters are some of my all time favorites! very sad that it was canceled after only one series. but nevertheless, everyone should definitely give this series a chance and watch it, you'll be surprised at how it pulls you in.

This series is really good, but whoever produced the PAL dvds (i.e. what we get in NZ) did a really terrible job of converting the audio from the NTSC masters. It seems like it was really badly timestretched, so it has this nasty ‘graunchy’ quality. Either buy the blu-ray edition, or import the dvd set from the US; if you care about audio quality, don't buy this edition!

I just finished watching the Complete Series of Firefly on DVD. It was a short-lived sci-fi series on Fox, in 2002. After watching the DVD collection, I'm sad that I missed it in its original airing, but pleased that I took the time to watch the series on DVD.For a Science-Fiction genre show, there is not a lot of technobabble. Its more of a human story.

Firefly is a brillant mix of humor and action, the only thing it is lacking is a longer story life as it was cancelled half way through producing season 1.

If you can imagine a Western where the hero's fly round in a space ship saving the day then you have some idea of this series but really it is just a bunch of mis-fits and oddballs trying to make a living on the frontiner of space without compramsing there own set of honour.

I highly reccommend this show, I went from not knowing a thing about the series to becoming a HUGE fan in a day

Firefly is brilliant… its “sci-fi” but it most definitely appeals to non-scifi people, I have shown this to so many people who would usually say they hate scifi stuff, and they are all hooked..

the characters are all interesting and unique, each has his or her own story, and these are expressed throughout the series.

There is humour, romance, action, space battles… Its a real shame the series was canceled before it rose to the popularity it now has. The huge cult fan base this series generated single handedly lead to the making of Serenity, which is the movie that rounds of the series, and is a purchase that should go hand in hand with the firefly series.

When this series was first aired on TV I avoided it as I just didn't think it would be my cup of tea. I then saw the movie serenity at the Cinema and was drawn into the world of firefly. To put it mildly I was blown away. Its such an odd concept having a western in space but the thing that really pulls this off is the cast. There is real chemistry to be seen here. Add some intelligent scripts and some genuinely funny moments and what you have is cult sci-fi classic. By the end of the series you really feel for the crew like they are part of the family. Its just such a shame the series was never continued. In short you would be mad not to buy it at this price,

Had never heard of Firefly until I saw it at a friends place and got hooked.

It doesn't have a dark theme like a lot of sci-fi's have, but a light mood, even cheesy in places, which makes it heaps of fun to watch

The Western tone of this show can sometimes be very off-putting. Especially as in a number of episodes the sci-fi all but disappears and is replaced by horses and revolvers.

However this is almost completely made-up by the script writing, which is simply spot on; the best I have seen in quite some time. There are some great comic moments in this show, hence even if the Western tone leaves you wary, still make sure to at least still check it out. I certainly wasn't disappointed.
