Description

They had a date with fate in Casablanca!

Arguably one of the greatest movies ever produced, Casablanca is a romantic masterpiece. Humphrey Bogart takes the leading role in this "love will conquer all" movie that regularly makes it into any top ten list of films. Featuring the often-misquoted line "play it again Sam" this MGM title is a true classic. The magic of the movie lies in Bogart's understanding performance, Bergman's depiction of a torn lover and a supporting cast that includes Claude Rains as the police Chief. However, cinema history will always have a special place for Dooley Wilson's rendition of 'As Time Goes By'.

This Two-Disc Special Edition DVD features a breathtaking new digital transfer plus four hours of bonus materials including many newly discovered and never-before-seen extras. Among these special features are the two documentaries hosted by Bacall; interviews with Stephen Bogart and Bergman’s daughters, Pia Lindstom and Isabella Rossellini; ten minutes of newly-found deleted scenes and outtakes; TV and radio shows inspired by the film; a cartoon take-off; scoring sessions; audio program; vintage trailers and more.

Special Features:
  • Breathtaking new Black and White digital transfer
  • Introduction by Lauren Bacall
  • Commentary by movie critic Roger Ebert
  • Commentary by historian Rudy Behlmer, author of Inside Warner Bros.
  • Theatrical trailer of Casablanca plus other landmark Warner Bros. films
  • Ten minutes of newly found deleted scenes/outtakes
  • Two documentaries hosted by Bacall: “You Must Remember This: The Making of Casablanca,” and “Bacall on Bogart,” the acclaimed feature-length retrospective on the life and career of her legendary husband
  • Featurette, “The Children Remember,” parental memories from Stephen Bogart and Ingrid Bergman’s daughters, Pia Lindstrom and Isabella Rossellini
  • The Looney Tunes gang in the cartoon homage “Carrotblanca”
  • Premier episode from the 1955 “Casablanca” Warner Bros. TV series
  • Audio-only treasures: “Screen Guild Players Radio Production” with the movie’s 3 stars, plus rare scoring session outtakes
  • Production history gallery, photos, press materials, studio correspondence memorabilia and more.

5 stars "Romantically beautiful yet subtly haunting."

Possibly one of the most romantic yet sad films of the original ‘film noir’ genre. The title character from Humphrey Bogart is one of the original anti-heroes who makes you wonder why you love him, but you still feel the pull of your heart-strings as you find yourself wanting him to realise what he has lost.

Overall a 5 star rating is the least this film deserves.
