Features:
This mouse is amazing, I upgraded from my Logitech mx518 mouse, and the two just don't compare.
Some people say that the customizing is just a niche, and no one will use it. Not true, I've seen a few people using this mouse and each one is set up different. It is so comfortable and easy to use. Some of the buttons do feel a little… Off, but that might just be mine.
The biggest problem is the fact that it is too sensitive, when you are listening to music while playing, or a grenade goes off next to you, in game of course, the bass makes the mouse move slightly, and at 5600 dpi a slight movement = a big jump on screen.
Also, I have read that the mouse needs the right mouse pad/surface to play on. Not necessarily an expensive one, just the right one, apparantly the sensor has trouble tracking on some surfaces, but this is a sensor problem, all mouse that have this sensor in them have the same problem.
Overall I would really reccommend this mouse to anyone that is serious about using their computers, just do some research on it, there is alot of reviews out there and they will tell you what to expect.
I have big hands and find the feature to widen the thumb rest awesome. No more sore thumb for me :)
Also the amount of customization is great. I have set 4 different speeds that I can swap between from the button below the wheel. This goes from really slow for sniping (can also use the sniping thumb button) to really fast.
The advantage of this mouse is you can make the mouse work best for you, rather than making yourself fit the mouse.
I bought this mouse Because ofthe large options to customise its shape and weight. What really sold me on this mouse was the fact that I could add an attachment which would stop my pinkie finger from dragging on my desk top, I kmow it does not sound like much but when you use the mouse as much as I do every day it's a big bonus.
As for the software I found it to be easy to use to set set up and run.
The only downside I found so far is thats its slightly on thw wide side for my hand, but this is a small annoyance which should disappear as I use this mouse more and more.
When I first saw the R.A.T 7 I thought “what an ugly mouse” – now I look at it on my desk and think “this is a thing of beauty”.
Let's go through it's features.
DPI: Ok Cyborg make a bit if a deal about the 5600 DPI – I personally find this is too sensitive – and have it set to 3200. However I do like the ability to change the DPI on the fly and there is a button by the scroll wheel that you rock back or forth to either increase or decrease the sensitivity from 5600 down to 800 when you want to be more precise – for instance using a free select tool in an image editing program like GIMP.
Profiles: I've used this for a couple of games in setting keyboard commands to the buttons and side scroll wheel – you do need to remember to activate the profile before starting your game. It's a useful feature but not one I use a lot.
Customization: Now we're talking – this mouse comes with a very nice tin case which holds 2 more palm rests a weight cartridge and 2 pinkie rests. One of the palm and one of the pinkie rests are rubberized – I tried this and while it gives good grip I didn't feel so comfortable with it as the smooth ones – still it's nice to have the option.
Using the built in screw driver you can move around almost everything to suit the size and most comfortable position of your hand. I swung the thumb rest out and forward a bit which feels more natural for me.
The real kicker for me though was attaching a pinkie rest which elevates my finger above the mouse pad – no more dragging a finger across the desk!
A friend just purchased the R.A.T 5 and I see it is nowhere as adjustable as the 7 nor does the 5 have a pinkie rest. I'd recommend if you have the extra dollars to invest in the 7 rather than the 5 if you want a more comfortable mouse – if you just want the profiles and 3600 DPI the 5 offers then the 7 might be too much mouse for you.
I spend most of my entertainment time at a PC and find this a very comfortable mouse – it has a lower profile than most so when I go back to my work mouse I find myself grumbling about how uncomfortable that is in comparison to my R.A.T
I bought this mouse as I was tired of my wireless mouse needing recharging and didn't mind returning to a cord – the R.A.T has a good quality braided cord which looks pretty tough.
Overall I am very pleased I spent the extra dollars for this mouse – it is very comfortable, feels well engineered in my hand, looks unique and performs very well.
I'd recommend this as a solid choice for both gaming and heavy PC users.
This mouse is just perfect. I bought mine a few months ago, it took a week to get used to it and since then it has pretty much turned into an extension of my arm.
The best thing about this mouse is that you can customize almost everything to fit your exact preferences. It takes a bit of tinkering to find out what you like and don't like, and I can assure you that you'll change your mind more than once, but when you get there it's totally worth it.
Other things that impressed me:
Amazing build quality
On the fly DPI switching (for gamers this is an amazing feature that is very
well set up on this mouse)
Precision aim button on the thumb rest (extremely useful feature)
The worst thing about this mouse is that it takes a little bit of time to get used to, mainly because of it's unique shape and feel, but once you've spent time using it there are no issues. (Note that if you've been using a relatively low DPI mouse and are upgrading to one with a high DPI such as this one, it will also take time to adjust to the new sensitivity)
In conclusion, this is definitely the most amazing mouse I've ever owned and I highly recommend it to everyone.
