"A Welcome Change"
5 stars"
Purchased on Mighty Ape

It's nice to finally have a game that takes risks again in new ways and doesn't get produced to appeal to the common gamer or masses. If you like a well written story and challenging but rewarding levels, definitely give this a go :)

Loved it

"Good game for puzzle fans"

Quite easy to get addicted to, trying to get gold medals on all the levels. Really enjoyed answering the questions and making the main character evil. Graphics pretty standard for a recent Atlus game, animation cuts are smooth and nice to watch. Overall if you dont like puzzle games that require a little bit of strategy mixed with an almost dating sim then this is not the game for you.

I am a HUGE ATLUS fan so buying this game was a must! … This is filled with some intense do or die puzzles which is awesome! and great anime scenes. .. personally i think it might be one of the best games i've played on PS3.. Defo worth picking up

"Quirky, interesting, different"

If you like anime with a few typical Japanese twists, then this is for you. A game that explores morals, plays like a cross between a platformer and an RPG, and is a load of fun. And frustration – it gets hard!

"Breath of fresh air "

This game has a very unique storyline which sucks you in. It is different in gameplay which is quite puzzle orientated, so it is a good challenge for people who are thinkers and quick on their foot. The anime style artwork is also top tier.

"Rewarding and not like anything you've played before"

The game concept is simple, you push and pull blocks to climb upwards. But what's different about this game compare to the simple Puzzle solving is the plot of the game.

Catherine is about a guy (Vincent) who doesn't want to settle down, even though his long term girlfriend (Katherine) has always wanted him to commit more, to make it even more interesting, she's pregnant…while Vincent met a lovely blonde (Catherine) and proceeded to have an one night stand with her…

Like I said, not your usual game. While the difficulty is challenging (to be honest, even Easy isn't easy), ultimately it would be rewarding as you found yourself simply wanting to know more about what will happen to Vincent…and there are multiple endings =)

Highly recommended.

"Incredibly hard, incredibly rewarding"

I bought Catherine because nearly all the reviews I read said it was a really interesting and original game and have not been disappointed.

The story is very Japanese and if you are Otaku that gets their moe on then you will love this, otherwise you might just find the story a bit silly.

The story centres around Vincent, a 32yr old Systems Engineer who doesn't want to settle down, though his long term GF Katherine is always bugging him about getting married, making a commitment etc.

Vincent drinks with his buddies at the local bar every night and this is where the story elements unfold after a particularly heavy drinking session. Your actions and the way you respond to conversation will affect a good/bad meter, which affects the outcome of the story, fairly standard faire these days.

But the bulk of time you will spend in the game are in the platform puzzler sequences that occur as Vincents nightmares and its here you will either throw the controller through your TV or love sinking your teeth into the challenge (and still want to throw your controller through the TV, but manage to keep yourself restrained)

The action puzzles require some very quick thinking and very quick fingers as you climb a tower of blocks thats constantly falling away, you push, pull and climb your way to the top of each stage.

When the game was released in Japan many gamers complained it was too hard, and this is the country that brought you Ninja Gaiden.

For the US release they included a super wasy mode, which though I played through on normal, I can assume is probably about equivalent to normal on a western game.

If you are hardcore Gamer, Otaku or both and you like your games challenging then this is definitely a game to try.

"Twisted, mind-bending, very Japanese"

Catherine is the latest title that publisher Atlus is kind enough to port to the west and how thankful we all should be. There's not much I want to say about this game other than it is the first platformer-puzzle/relationship sim that I've ever played and its fantastic: The puzzles are extremely challenging, the storyline is engrossing and the setting is truly twisted.
