Description
Eureka! Oil has been discovered on the island of Catan. The great engineers of Catan have learned ways to improve production using this valuable new resource, both by converting it into other materials and enabling the upgrade of cities into metropolises. But oil is scarce and its use does not come without cost. Using oil produces pollution, as well as climate changing emissions, which bring with them the threat of coastal flooding—and absolute disaster. With the discovery of oil on Catan, the Settlers face a new challenge: deciding whether the common good is worth limiting oil usage or whether the pursuit of victory is worth the risk of ruin.

"A good extension"
Enjoyed this as a change from the standard. Less complex than many extensions and provoked a good deal of discussion. Rules easy to understand although the Pyrrhic victory seems the most common outcome. Easier if another player maintains the Disaster tracki

Despite it being available free online, I still think it is worth paying for the expansion, as the nice card tiles make it much more enjoyable to play.
The expansion adds oil to the game, oil is effectively a super resource, you can do basically anything with it. The catch, it screws over the planet resulting in your beautiful settlements destruction, or resource loss.
Oil adds a new level of strategy to the game, as well as the ability to threaten to cause natural disasters on your fellows if they don't accept your trade.
All in in all, it's a fun little simple expansion.
