This is a great game. It's a tile based game where all players build castles, roads, churches and surrounding farm land collectively. Players place individual player pieces on these resources and gain points when they are completed.
The game is quick to play probably about 30 minutes. Though there is an element of luck( depending on the tile you pick up) It's a challenging game which allows you to utilise cunning strategy to advance your own interests, cash in on other players developments and to thwart opponents advancements. A game that can be played again and again without boredon seeping in. Its very easy to learn and the rule book is only about 3 pages long and is comprehensive and easy to understand.
I think this game would work for a variety of levels. Children over 7 would be able to pick it up. However, the subtle range of strategy that can be utilised make it a challenging adult game as well.
One of the better cheaper board games on the market. A great investment for anyone interensted in board gaming
It's a tile-laying game which combines luck and tactics, but there's something else to Carcassone that makes you wanting more…
Perhaps it's the nice quality in how they manufactured the pieces- The satisfaction you get in-game when you lay down a tile or a follower to score points- The unexpected moves the other players can throw at you with that one tile piece they just acquired-
Whatever it is, I've spent sooo many hours playing this with my siblings. It's even more exciting trying to play the game with the expansion sets available, since those add more “twists” and scoring opportunities. But even on its own, Carcassone can kill so much time.
One of the things to watch out for initially though is going through the rules of the game, but once you've gotten around the nuances in scoring then it's all smooth playing from there (this applies especially when you're playing with the expansion sets).
All in all, I love this game, although it does leave you baffled at the end of the game as to how time managed to just fly by so quickly :)
This board game has to be one of the most fun out there. It changes every time you play it, and as such, any one has a chance to win. It's strategy combined with luck of the draw, and with only 2 players it's still awesome. I definately recommend this game.
