Call of Duty: Black Ops reviews

Exclusive dedicated servers…Exclusive being the key word here, hosted through a company called Gamestop who do not have any New Zealand servers forcing us kiwi's to play on aussie servers.

As of right now the game is suffering from severe memory leaks and graphic issues causing it to constantly freeze especially when you have an enemy in your cross hairs.

Despite all of the above the actual game play is similar to CoD4 or MW2 except with new gadgets/maps/we­apons…nothing too exciting and quickly becomes stale after a few hours.

This games pc release was such an epic fail it should be posted on failblog. Firstly and most obviously no matter which mode you play (multiplayer and single player) and what pc components you have it has massive frame jumping. Everyone I have played with online experiences this and it is tremendously annoying. Secondly if you are hoping for the spectacular graphics that should be expected of such a high budget and publicised game then prepare to be disappointed, nothing, at all has change from treyarchs call of duty waw and cod 4. Other than those two things this game is sweet.

(PC platform) For many people including myself, the game is un-playable on single play and multiplayer. There are already pages on the internet from people having problems (including people with high end spec pc's). Very disappointing after the disappointing on day one and especially after the issues with MW2. There are already rumours of a patch. Not good considering they had a year to get it right. Are they trying to get everyone to play consoles?

With all the hype around the game I expected something more. Don't get me wrong this is a very good game and is fun to play I just believe they over sold it.

Having played for about 3 hours I have to say so far I prefer MW2 over this game for single player game play. The story is very confusing at the start and most the stages feels very scripted. There are a few very open stages but even here they manage to get you to run along a singular path so don't expect to go exploring.

Half the time you feel like Terminator killing bad guys while epic music is playing in the background.

I have one or two niggles with the controls but overall you can get use to them fairly quickly. One thing that you may or may not like is that you character feels like he has weight, meaning that the character reacts more like a real person would.

The game graphics is probably on par with MW2 but does feels duller, but this may be due to the fact that the game plays out in the 60's.

As for the multiplayer I must say dedicated servers rule. Zombie mode is heaps of fun for up too 4 players and kind of ironic that you can play a dead President. Overall multiplayer is a lot of fun and there is very little to fault at this point. I'm sure a lot of people will find 101 niggle's with it over time but for now I'm enjoying it immensely.

I'll give it 4 out of 5 but only because the single player is not as good as I had hoped.

Yeah, its just World at War with a bit of other stuff. Has some potential but COD MW2 is prettier, smoother and still a better game. Real shame.

Guns unbalanced, basicly just bad multiplayer, was really keen for this game but im disappointed. Campaign and zombie mode are good but multiplayer is where the stay-ability of the game is and for CoD Black Ops it is really lacking. Will be worth getting when it is half price.

Biggest let down from the Call of Duty series yet. Graphics are very bad not where near what Modern Warfare 2. More like Medal of Honor in graphics. Multiplayer is just fulled with large lag jots everywhere the Aussie servers are just awful.

Got the game delivered, tried to install…then STEAM window popped up, uninstalled, reinstalled, all I get is updating…got to 6% after 15 minutes now its dropped back to 0%, this is now an hour and I still can'tSTEAM to install, even tried opening a new account, nothing…

This is a great game. Its very easy to waste several hours in the intense multiplayer action. And when your sick of that there's a awesome one player campaign to play through.

Lets be honest, the real beauty of this game is the multiplayer aspect and not the single payer campaign ~ which has been done to death now. If you like shooting your mates online or taking out some 14 year old aussies then yes there is a lot to like here. 4 stars from me

Very disappointed in this title. While the single player campaign is certainly full of action, it feels very disjointed and the storyline is less than believable. There are also some major historical errors such as the MP5 with red dot scope appearing in a scenario set in 1963!!! Its playable but unexciting and did not leave me wanting to really continue past the first few levels.

The multi player is quite terrible. Graphically it looks like a game from 2004 and it plays like quake 3 deathmatch with modern weapons. Even after the recent patch many people are still having issues with lag.

While it is a fun game for a few hours, there is no lasting value here.

It freezes, it lags, it starts off with pretty bad graphics and the story is ridiculous, if they manage to bring out a patch that makes it at least run smooth I would give it a better rating.

Ok, finally got rid of the STEAM issues, still no idea why…game seems to run fine, no problems and I have an 8600 gfx card. Single player is a bit of a blast feast but enjoyable – I never managed to finish COD4 single player, gave up in boredom, about to try multiplayer..hope its as good as COD4 multiplayer

Where too begin? firstly the games been terribly optimized, sever stuttering and frameskipping on even the highest end PC's, they put no effort in whatsoever to porting this one. Personally i'd have thought theyd have fixed the kinks in the WaW engine by now. More than 70% of the guns in the game were not even around in the time periods theyve shown and/or were being used by the wrong forces. And to top off the historical inaccuracys the story itself is ridiculous. Also arn't black op's missions supposed to be stealthy? I'd imagine the states having a bloody hard time denying their involvment in any of the missions shown in this game. The online's not exactly the greatest either, id personally recommend playing MW1, better hitboxes amongst other things. Treyarch finally managed to put the final nail in their coffin hopefully they'll just let call of duty die off like it should have when infinity ward left.

This FPS is rubbish save you money and buy something different.

The biggest highlight of this game is zombies, Its so awesome and usually you dont expect much from a Call Of Outy campaign but this one had an awesome campaign and online Play. Despite The Price this game is cool as.

This game may be dissapointing because of the multiplayer lagg. Treyarch might give u an update to stop this problem.

The graphics are similar to that of a game from the late 90's, bland and lacking depth. The motions are jumpy and skittish, so the game play is unintuitive and frustrating.

A game definitely behind its time, should be in the bargain bin for $10, not commanding a $70+ price tag

This Is The Best FPS In The World So Far Bring On Black Ops 2. The Action And The Story Line Will Blow You Away Still Not Satisfied What If I Tell You About The Highly Addictive Online Play.You Could Play for A Year Strait and Still Not Be Bored

An excellent purchase, (and might I say a fast and safe delivery from Mightyape once again) which is all very exciting and new. The game play style is much different than Modern Warfare 2 which takes a bit to get use to – I use to do very well on Modern Warfare 2 – but it appears that you require a lot more skill and less ‘luck’ and ‘chance’ in Black Ops. The graphics are enhanced which I thoroughly enjoy and the campaign is fresh, new and thrilling as well. Multiplayer has a number of issues especially with connection and freezing at times I've found, but they'll patch those up I'm sure. Remember to the folks who are new to the series, if you don't plan on playing multiplayer, don't purchase the game. The multiplayer is what makes this game what it is!! Over all I would have purchased this game eventually but it simply is the latest and the greatest. It's Call of Duty Black Ops. Hoo-Rah!

A first person shooter set in the era of 91' players can play many levels of stunning singleplayer campaigns, battle it out against hordes of Nazi zombies or jump into the most brutal online multiplayer out that is Black Ops Online. Players who stick at it enough will lvl up and progress through different prestige modes unlocking new weapons, perks and attachments and many more on the way. The actual game modes are only a few (ffa,tdm,s&d,ctf) but in later patches they should release the favorites from MW2 like 3rd person matches, hardcore moshpits and more. Aside from the current lagg that “they are fixing” I personally recommend you all grab a copy on pc and jump into the action. This is one game you don't want to miss out on. If you could loose yourself for hours, days on end playing games, this is what you need.

So don't just sit there reading about it, go out there and fork over your pocket money and get into the action!

Once your in there are many servers to choose from. Try looking for the one's with the lowest ping as its easier to connect to and the server is close by so there will be less lagg. Great multiplayer game – good maps, better than MW2.

Yes thear is lag becuse we have to go Through AUS servers but you get to handel it, I come 1 in Free for all 1 game fun with the dogs just enjoy the game its great fun wiping the Aus.

Single player is awsome but online play lets it down alot is really laggy

This game is absolutely amazing, it is a massive step up in the world of Call Of Duty! The online multi-player is phenomenal, and the graphics are stunning. If you are a COD fan, then definitely add this game to your collection!

I had purchased “Medal of Honour-Limited Edition” PC version prior to buying this and I must say that surprisingly the graphics are alot better in MOH. The game play and gore is better in COD (if you are into that ) but I was very disappointed by the graphics overall. What COD has over MOH is the facial detail of the characters especially the eye details. I am only 1/2 way thru COD but the graphics especially the “round” detailing such as wheels and especially the steering wheel on the vehicle in the opening level leaves a bit to be desired !. I would have thought that for a game that had so much hype it would be as close to perfect-at least with the graphics detailing . Overall – a very good game-certainly not the “Best” game.If the makers of COD & MOH combined their joint skills imagine what amazing games we would have.

I like this game in combat training other then that it is pretty bad online servers in new zealand lack

The multiplayer on this is alright, there a plenty of matchs and the servers usally have a good amount of players on them. The zombie co op games are fun as well but only if you have a good connection because when you get to high levels you may start to lose connection to the host as hordes of zombies spawn. The single player campaign was average. Only recommend this game if you want to play the multiplayer with friends.

Black Ops is one of the best games I own so far. The campaign is really good, and the storyline makes me want to play it again and again. The zombies co-op is amazingly fun! Great way to test your skills and even meet new friends to play with. And the multiplayer, I must say is better than Modern Warfare 1 and 2. There are heaps of awesome features in there.

Over all this is a great game to get. If you're thinking of getting it, don't think and just buy!

I've been playing COD since the original for PC came out and been loving them all (missed the 3rd one because of only console ggrrrrr) but I love playing them and will play them all until theres no more :).

Just a quick note: waiting on my new lappy to play it hehe!

The online experience wouldn't be so bad if it wasn't for steam severs. They are laggy as hell and cut out every 15 mins. If you don't play multiplayer then go ahead and buy it because the story is nuts and exciting and the zombie mode is fun as well. But if you want the game for online purposes, then stick to cod 4 and pray MW3 is good and doesn't use steam

The graphics for this game are awesome. Fast -paced.Storyline can be confusing but improves as the game progresses. Suggest to potential buyers that a gaming mouse or pad helps to keep up with the transition throughout the game levels. general comment is…brilliantly progammed and compiled.

very bad effort for the pc, ( finished game on both 360 and pc) lag, locks up when targeting other players overall very good games just poorly made for the pc ( ive found the recent patches don't helps aswell)

I got this game the day before it was released and man I could not wait to have played it at 12pm! Best Call Of Duty by Far!!!

Call of Duty Black Ops is a very few game WHEN IT WORKS. The game was realised way to early and is full of annoying bugs. When I first got the game I was unable to play it for a month till they were able to patch it and even now the frame rate in Multiplayer is pretty bad. The server browser is very poor as well as it shows up pretty much all empty servers all the time and can sometimes not show anything at all.

Also one other very disappointing point of this game was the graphics, which are very poor I put this game and Call of Duty 2 side by side and I prefer the graphics on number 2

The single player was very fun the most enjoyable Call of Duty so far and the Zombies mode is really fun with a group of people which I prefer over the Multiplayer

It's possibly not as good as some of the other COD games, but I've just come off playing BF2 so this has been a huge upgrade for me – the graphics are awesome, the sound and effects make the game seem really realistic and immersive, and while it's quite difficult to play well online (lots of ‘pros’ on there who probably play too much), I've been having heaps of fun over the last two weeks playing this game.

COD:BO wasn't exactly the smoothest of releases. Well not for the PC anyway. The first few days were abysmal with gamers all over the world complaining of server lag, random freezes, and serious frame rate issues. I was amongst these annoyed as my corei7/ATI5870 PC is well above the required specs.

Thankfully this didn't go on too long (for me anyway) and after a few days, a couple of patches, and some manual port forwarding the game finally reached its full potential and began to run flawlessly.

The single player campaign is a gripping and exciting story that keeps you on the edge of your seat and makes you want to play through it multiple times on hard and harder difficulties.

COD has always been about it's multiplayer action and Black Ops definitely doesn't disappoint. It has stuck very closely to the past COD formulas with minor perk/achievement adjustments. It comes down to the good old saying: If's not broken…

Overall, Call of Duty: Black Ops is packs an exciting single player with the award winning multiplayer experience and yet again proves it is the benchmark in FPS games.

The single player game is realtively short in time to finish (as they all seem to be now) and certainly quite graphically brutal in parts, that the R16 rating seems a little low??

The Multiplayer game seems to be the main point of these COD games now and there are tens of thousand on-line at any one time. A good bunch of dedicated local (AUS/NZ) servers seem to give a good platform of potential games at low ping rates. Certainly the games roll through pretty quick, with little time between games, so it is all go! The guns are a little different than past COD's and you need to earn ‘money’ from playing ranked games to buy the better weapons and add-ons. If you are a past COD fan, you will have already bought this, if not, then why not!!

COD BO – it's just like COD4, but worse, at least with COD4 you had the option to play on NZ based game servers.

If you like lag, if you like lock-ups, if you like stutter – this game is for you.

Save your money, buy Bad Company 2 & it's Vietnam expansion as they offer a much richer, long term game experience.

The sequel to the hit game call of duty modern warfare 2 brings loads more to the cod franchise. They have made the single player story much more interesting and exciting. It gives you zombies right out of the box, and also gives you an extra hilarious zombie level after you finish the campaign. But the main star of cod black ops is the multiplayer side. It is better, more balanced and much more intense. Adding new features like cod points. That you can use to buy new weapons and attachments after you unlock them from ranking up. With the addition of cod points, they bring a new feature in called wager matches, these are fun new game modes that you can “bet” your money to get more money. They also included a combat training mode for new players or just for some fun, the game mode is were you vs bots and rank up in the same way as you do in multiplayer. All in all this game has, more features, new weapons, balanced multiplayer, compelling story and hilarious zombies mode. A must for any call of duty fan or if you want to sink your heart into the amount of creativity and chaos that lyes within call of duty black ops

This is essentially Modern Warfare 2 on steroids. The one major downfall of mw2 was the lack of dedicated servers on PC. Black Ops has them but its implementation is flaky at best.

My advice is to wait before buying. Read the steam users and call of duty forums. Wait for patches to be released

World at War still shows through on this game, Treyarch tried to get the formula that Infinity Ward have created with MW2 but its just not the same.

Graphically MW2 is better, playing and the feel MW2 is better. If you are new to Call of Duty then this is probably the best FPS you have played, but for those that have been fragging their way through it for a while it just disappoints.

Multiplayer Zombies, is however great fun!!!!

So another Call of Duty is out, But this time based on the cold war and Vietnam. Some good points about the game are:

• Server listings now.
• SINGLE PLAYER wooooooooo
• Friends
• Heaps of modes
• Old school clan battles
• Currency
• ZOMBIESSSSSSSSSSSSS­SSS

Some bad points about the game are:

• Graphics are basically the same as other cods
• Reserved slots don't work ( will get fixed )
• Single player a bit too short
• Might get boring if you don't play with a clan/friends.
• cpu/ram hungry.

So if you have a good enough computer and some mates I reckon you would like this game. If you get bored with online and single player there is always zombies!
