Orgone are back with Cali Fever, their second album for Ubiquity and a giant step from anything they have ever released in the past. This is a band in ascendancy, with more focus and purpose, and gigging like their lives depend on it.
Cali Fever features all original songs, & with the incredible Fanny Franklin at the helm, the 9-piece band rip through soul cuts with a wild West Coast flair. Indeed, the album titles refers to the vibes & energy coming out of California, specifically Los Angeles - an amalgamation of the eclectic things learned & heard while growing up in LA.
With a deep-rooted appreciation of funk, soul & Afrobeat, Orgone naturally slide through multiple styles both live & on record - and their intimate understanding & appreciation of DJ culture lends a hard, explosive edge to their music. The members of Orgone are part of a large, soulful music family, having also played with Connie Price & The Keystones, Breakestra, Dakah, Rhythm Roots Allstars, The Lions & others.
Their debut album, The Killion Floor, scored Orgone an Adidas ad campaign, tour dates with Little Brother & backing-band gigs for The Pharcyde, Plantlife (including Later… With Jools Holland), Pharoahe Monch & Eddie Bo; plus, they’ve also opened for Al Green, Gil Scott-Heron, Sharon Jones, Greyboy, The Roots & many more! This is not a retro funk-by-numbers band simply re-hashing the past. Cali Fever is the evolution of a band dedicated to bringing tight, tough & honest get-on-your-feet unpretentious funk & soul music.
