Description

New Zealand born, London based group The Veils return with their highly anticipated second album, 'Nux Vomica' -- the follow up to the critically acclaimed 2004 release 'The Runaway Found'.

The Veils original band line up for their debut album split two months after the record's release, so founding member Finn Andrews returned from London to New Zealand (where he'd moved during his teens) to recruit new musicians with the vow, "We must make things as terrifying and exciting as we can".

The Veils now consist of songwriter Finn Andrews (vocals, guitar): Sophia Burn (bass, vocals): Liam Gerard (piano, organ) and touring players Henning Dietz (Drums) and Dan Raishbrook (guitar). Finn explains "Things got pretty crazy for a while. I went back to New Zealand, got myself back down to the ground, and concentrated on writing again. I feel very much a Londoner, but I'm from New Zealand, and I seem to write a lot more quickly there. Maybe that's because there's slightly less to do -- there's far less distraction."

Finn's father Barry Andrews was a member of the much-loved 80s bands XTC and Shriekback, so Finn knows he always has, "someone who's opinion I can trust. He's always the first person I play things to. You get so many opinions coming at you that it's nice to have at least one rock." With 'Nux Vomica', the Veils draw back the curtain and bring new breath to the genre. "If the first album was about my effect on myself, I suppose this one's more about the world's effect on us all."

'Nux Vomica' was recorded in Laurel Canyon, Los Angeles with producer Nick Launay (Queen, The Jam, INXS, Silverchair) then mixed in London by Bill Price (The Clash, PIL, Guns'n'Roses, Robert Plant).
